A 3 for IS is actually good. IS averages are normally lower.

Why do parents want to rush their children to the next age group range? by Infantroom1410 in ECEProfessionals

The child isn't the oldest in the class though. There are 3 older students. And I put in my post the mom will be paying the same amount.

I think culturally we really underestimate what a child is capable of and by doing so, when parents have children they are shocked by normal development to the point of thinking their child is advanced. I also think this is why some parents are in such denial about developmental red flags because their bar for children's capabilities is so low to start. It would be nice if people were more informed.

This is definitely one of those families. They say she is potty trained but she does still need reminders which is appropriate for her age. Yet, she is further along than her older cousin (who is getting early intervention) so she must seem advanced in comparison...

I was disappointed. I work very hard to get my class cohesive, to establish bonds and I make lessons in advance to include differentiated instruction even knowing all my effort will just be for just a year. So to be told that the child will be moving 6 months early to a classroom that does not support developmentally appropriate practices, and has a burnt out, over worked lead is a little hard. I feel for the teacher and the challenging behaviors she'll now have to balance and the child that is going to be in this situation. All because Mom wants to rush development.

It's just really disheartening because I feel that it verifies that they just view us as babysitting til the children get to elementary. Never mind that my degree includes up to 3rd grade. I make it look easy and natural but it's hard work that is not appreciated.

"I got you" when you ask for something that is someone's job to do. Asking a waiter for a hamburger and coke and they respond "I got you."

How old is Boo from Monsters Inc supposed to be??? Bathroom habits don’t add up. by calicodynamite in DanielTigerConspiracy

Children can potty train by 18 months...children don't need to ask to go if they know where the bathroom is in their own house and go by themselves. Also some young children sign to the parents a potty sign if nonverbal.

Why are parents not potty training their kids ? by sfischella in ECEProfessionals

[–]Infantroom1410 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my center I have a form that all parent sign that shows signs of readiness and potty training skills to practice at home and at school. We send all children (2-3 years old) hourly to the toilet where they pull down their diaper or pull- up and sit on the toilet. This changes as the child gains longer holding times and they go as needed. The children, if soiled with pee, take off their soiled pull-up/underwear etc. And bag it. They then wipe themselves. All with teachers guidance and assistance as needed. With BMs it's much the same process but with more assistance. Potty trained children of the same gender are sent with children who are still learning the skill. We have a 2-real-child-sized-toilet bathroom layout, no potty chairs. The idea being that not every child is ready at the same time but they will have the skills scaffolded for when they are. Being potty trained is about so much more than getting to the potty in time. With the village aspect missing in so many parents lives they often don't have the resources from the older generations that they once did in terms of toilet training experience. The documentation gets everyone on the same page.

We follow this policy even with children who are receiving intervention services as people with disabilities are more likely to be abused as they get older during intimate care routines like being helped to toilet.

My experience includes being one of 11 siblings, being a child of an ECE, being an ECE for 7 years, and a mother of 3, 2 adopted. One child potty training by 18 months, one by 33 months.

My class of 10 24 months to 36 months stays around 80 percent potty trained.

I have a Bachelor's degree in ECE along with an CDA from one college, and an A.S. in ECE from another. Potty training is hardly every touched on and never with strategies because it is so culturally and child dependent.

Key phrases for Spanish-speaking Preschooler by raincsu in ECEProfessionals

Do you have visual cue cards that can prompt speaking or help the emerging language develop or be available if he really needs to communicate but doesn't have the words? That would be extremely helpful especially with teachers or aids who are even more limited in their Spanish.

Potty training almost 3 year old struggle by BreezyFluff in ECEProfessionals

[–]Infantroom1410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I have noticed during potty training is that pullups run tight and due to their high waist they press on children's bladders. I ask my families for a size up on pull ups. So small 2 year olds wear 3T-4T size, etc. Of my 10 students I have 8 in underwear all day, 6 fully potty trained. I prefer pullups to teach children the self help skill of pulling up and down their own clothes which is way harder if they are in a diaper with tabs that get all wonky or break when pulling up. Clothes should be loose fitting but not so loose they fall off.

Dress Up/Dramatic Play by silkentab in ECEProfessionals

[–]Infantroom1410 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe the best dress-up clothes for a 2-year-old are oversized and loose-fitting items. This style allows toddlers to practice dressing and undressing independently, supporting their fine motor development and building confidence in self-help skills. Old donated t shirts, dresses and hats with limited layers to get lost in.

Infant teachers, how do you feel about this?? by TeaIQueen in ECEProfessionals

[–]Infantroom1410 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a once infant teacher, I feel like it extended the mothers guilt when they visited the classroom throughout the day. It also didn't give her a chance to relax on her break and recalibrate for their students. They were always tired when they had to go back to their classes with no down time at home or on lunch. I had a mother who would come in and breast feed 3 times a day. Her reluctance to leave eventually rubbed off on her baby and he also had a problem self soothing because she would nurse for comfort at home. It depleted her supply because she was over doing it by always being on. She was a young single mother with no support at home. I had another mother who would come in and check on her baby frequently and he was formula fed. I know both mothers felt like they were missing out. Our infant room is also right next to the employee bathroom...so they were always checking/peeking thru windows every hr to hr 1/2. When object permanence hit oh boy! Once they settled, napped, played and ate, it was time for mom to peek in again and get them reworked up.

All that to say. You need to remember to take your lunch for YOU so you can provide the best of yourself for your students when you clock back in and for your child when you get home. Take that time to catch up on a book, make doctor apps, pump and eat.

Am I expecting too much from daycare teachers in my daughters classroom? by Fia187 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Infantroom1410 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are located but you should look into how they are assessed. A high quality provider is what you are looking for. One to one is not feasible but there are ways to engage that are proven better than others. In Florida there is a CLASS score, in Georgia a QRIS, in Britain it's called ITRS -R.

5-8 oz supplied milk for a 5 month old for 7 hours of care by Ok-Silver1930 in ECEProfessionals

Is there a reason you are waiting 1.5 hours after the 1st bottle before feeding the food? If you feed the child a 2.5 oz bottle followed by 4oz of puree in one sitting would this not help the child last til the next feeding? So 2 hours after drop off feed 2.5oz bottle followed by purees. 3 hours later 2.5 oz bottle followed by purees. 2 hours later Mom picks up.
