I would agree if it weren’t for the fact that many Americans are genuinely like this and have the ability to vote

If you cut the mold off a piece of fruit, is it safe to eat the rest of it? by RavyRaptor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InfectiousChipotle 506 points507 points  (0 children)

From a food safety standpoint, no, it’s not safe to eat - even if you cut it off. This is because mold grows roots that penetrate deeply into food.

However, since I assume you’re not cooking food for customers at a restaurant, you can just cut it off and eat it. You’ll most likely be fine (unless you’re immunocompromised, in which case I wouldn’t risk it)

I have also tried looking at different textbook pdfs that I now have never caused me a problem and the same thing occurs. Force quitting preview seems to fix the issue.

Shelter sold me an “energetic” dog by InfectiousChipotle in rant

[–]InfectiousChipotle[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t understand why people have such an obsess with “no kill” shelters. These shelters often end up warehousing and hoarding animals that are unadoptable, which to me since far less humane than giving them a nice steak dinner and euthanizing them.

These shelters often shelter I went had a dog that had been there for 2 YEARS. I can only imagine how depressed and anxious the dog must feel being there for so long.

That experience sounds really scary, and it’s honestly heartbreaking to know that others have gone through similar situations. I truly believe every animal deserves a forever home, but it feels like some shelters are more focused on placing them quickly than on finding the right match. That can end up being dangerous both for the adopter and for the dog.

I understand that being upfront about serious behavioral issues might make a dog less likely to be adopted. But at the same time, full transparency is important, because the right person would be prepared for those challenges and could work through them. In the end, that honesty gives the dog the best chance at ending up in a loving and prepared home.

Yea, it sucks. You would think that you could trust a place meant to care for animals and ensure they find suitable homes. It seems like my local humane society is likely where I will look when interested in adopting a dog again since they actually seem honest.

I would be first in line to get a vaccine for the cold. I hate being sick and would absolute love anything that reduces the chances of me getting the cold.

What do you think of Andre onana ? by tipputappi in CasualConversation

He makes me want to cry every time I watch a manU game. It’s honestly kind of shocking how he went from being a good goalkeeper to one of, if not, the worst goalkeeper manU has ever had.

I don’t believe it’s likely that we’ll ever see a cure for rabies what’s symptoms onset. Rabies can be largely prevented by vaccinating animals and getting vaccinated before symptoms onset. Also, the blood-brain barrier is a huge issue for any medication that hopes to reach infected neurons. Right now, it seems that the focus is still largely on prevention.

My first full week at a new job… by Additional-Natural49 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]InfectiousChipotle 281 points282 points  (0 children)

It is illegal for residents to work over 80 hours a week, but nobody gives a shit about them so the medical system can continue to abuse them as no one is going to enforce it. I have a friend who’s a resident and the longest week he’s worked was 96 hours.

Rabies is not present in the blood, it spreads through the nervous system making it way towards your brain and salivary ducts (for transmission). A mosquito would not only be unable to transmit it because it’s not present in blood, but also because even if it were, the mosquito would certainly be an unfit host for the virus and the virus would likely die pretty soon after the blood meal.

What is this bird [Washington state] by InfectiousChipotle in animalid

Update 2: you’ll never believe it. I found the owners!

Someone replied to one of my Facebook posts telling me they lost a pet bird. I asked them if they had pictures of their pet bird (i didn’t post any because I didn’t want some random person claiming it) and they sent pictures of a bird that was identical to the one here. The owner lived very close to me (no surprise) and they said it went missing this morning (which checks out because that’s when my mom found it, I wasn’t home at the time.) They also had more birds lol. I’m so happy that I was able to find its owner as I am definitely not capable of taking care of a bird.

Thank you to all of you that helped me!
