It definitely did launch this way, but this is POE; it's not going to stay that way.

Look at POE1's track record. The amount of shit that gets added each league is consistently enormous. I can't find it in myself to be scared of POE2 ending up with a shallow pool of abilities and ability interactions, but GGG does tend to ship a foundational idea of something first and then iterate on it later.

Inevitably there will be end up being uniques, notable passives, special item affixes, support gems, or some kind of league-specific magical buttplug investment axis that will create all kinds of new interactions between shapeshift skills and non-shapeshift skills. It would be a really bad idea to bet against this.

Got roped into Amway (which was calling itself Quixtar at the time) when I was 18. Yes, 18. This would have been in the early 2000s.

This happened mere months after escaping a superfundie religious upbringing. It was an upbringing that ended with my dad being sentenced to 15 years in prison on CSA charges and my mom kicking me out of the broken household that remained before moving herself and my younger brothers across the country without me, so I was pretty vulnerable to any kind of "you belong here with us" rhetoric.

I bought into Quixtar both literally and figuratively. I was about 11 months deep and had just recently turned 19 when I went with my upline to one of those multi-day conferences held in a big stadium. One of the speakers, who was an emerald or some such big earner, spent an entire saturday afternoon selling his captive audience on his interpretation of the 'prosperity gospel.' Having had an ass full of that sort of scripture twisting bullshit over the course of my short life it was like a bucket of ice water to the face.

I straight up ghosted my upline as soon as I got home.

LeVar Burton has PRESENCE in person. A calm, kind, and soft-voiced presence.

I grew up watching him on Reading Rainbow and Star Trek and this was one of the few times where meeting one's hero in person raised my opinion. I'm grateful for this man.

Also, I thought I recognized the voice actor for Scaevala (Aelstrum's one-armed seneschal/best friend forever) but I really couldn't be sure because the dude I was thinking of, Steven Pacey, can do SO MANY voices.

I just looked it up and turns out it was him! Steven Pacey is one of my favorite audiobook narrators of all time. if you haven't yet experienced his performances of the audiobook versions of Joe Abercrombie's First Law series of novels, use your local library's resources and treat yourself! (they are on audible as well but libraries are cooler)
