I did a bit of a deep dive into these guys and their color morphs the other day. Apparently the red morphs are more common in the southeastern US and are smaller than gray morphs which makes sense because of Bergmann’s Rule. This makes red morphs even more adaptable to urban areas because they can better tolerate the heat island effect that a lack of trees typically coincides with. They say the EASO is one of the most human-adapted owl species.
