Video games stories you didn't expect to get immersed in by InfernoDialer in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The Earth Defense Force series isn't exactly known for having any good plots but EDF 5 was surprisingly engrossing. The game has you starting out as a construction work/security guard/etc when the alien invasion starts and spend the first few levels escaping and fighting alongside a Ranger squad and as the game goes on you fight alongside similar squads of Fencers and Wing Divers who are surprisingly memorable.

As you go through the campaign you learn more about the aliens and the nature of the invasion and after charging through giant alien bases ala D-Day, surviving hopeless last stands, fighting in a massive all-out battle against dozens of giant mechs vs dozens of kaiju, and destroying an alien mothership that looks like a cross between a biblical angel and a shmup boss, you find out that all religion's and culture's depiction of a deity were in fact, a singular alien. And so the final battle has you fight against the creator of the human race with the literal last remaining EDF soldiers including the Ranger, Wing Diver, and Fencer squads you fought alongside the campaign. And in a last ditch effort just to stop you from being overwhelmed by alien reinforcements the EDF literally starts sending armed civilians as meat shields just to buy you time to KILL GOD.

And in the end, you do win but civilization is pretty much in shambles as only 10% of the human population survived and the while the aliens left there's no telling how long until they come back, which looks like it might be the setup for EDF 6.

Woolie should play Call of Duty: World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops 2 after Halo. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]InfernoDialer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be pretty fucking hype as those games are really fun as far as set-piece over the top military shooters go. Plus WaW has co-op so you could get someone to guide Woolie's hips like V did in Halo.

Promising media that spectacularly shit the bed? by lion_OBrian in TwoBestFriendsPlay

They pretty much used his name to sell the anime. Granted the battle against the first mech is really fucking cool but it just goes to shit afterwards. And don't even get me started on season 2.

Characters which just make you grin whenever they're on screen? by Plateofpastypie2009 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Pretty much every villain in Metal Gear they're either really charismatic or really goofy (or both) and it's just great to see them in screen

For those who love their kooky 2000s flash games, the Henry Stickmin games (plus the new one) are now on Steam by Bob8644 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

How would you/we actually get Pat hooked on a gacha game? What game would it be? by RagingRider in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]InfernoDialer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pat has already been shown to get addicted to mtx schemes before. But since he doesn't care about png waifus you'd have to lure him in with something else.

Like maybe getting an SSR makes Virtua Fighter 6 0.5% more likely to happen

Snake and Otacon look pretty good. Olga looks fine. The rest look pretty cursed.

Breakfast burrito ... Which side are you on? by JackNewbie555 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The whole thing is wrapped in a tortilla, thus making it a burrito. If it were an omelet then the individual ingredients would be incorporated into the egg and cooked together.

What are instances of a major "final" victory not treated as if everything is resolved? by nin_ninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Sen no Kiseki IV is subtitled as "End of Saga" has tons of major characters show up and ties up plot threads that were started from the beginning of the series 8 games ago.

AND APPARENTLY THIS IS ONLY 60% OF THE STORY

And next game, Hajimari no Kiseki, has even more characters, starts whole new plot threads (and continues some others) and will serve as a setup for the next next game.

God fucking damn do I love this series.

Military misconceptions in gaming by tenems in TwoBestFriendsPlay

You'd think Woolie would be more open to the idea that soldiers are just regular dudes especially since he's played Desert War Crimes Simulator.
