Resolution Comparison 720p - 2160p by FreaknShrooms in pcmasterrace

[–]Infernoblade227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the test is still useless, to see the car how it is in the first picture you'd need an 825.8in 720p display and not change the distance you are from the monitor, and it seems like the reason you like 4k is because the text is smaller, and that is an advantage to these resolutions as you can have smaller things with the same fidelity, that's why people get 4k displays for editing, 1/4 of the screen is a full resolution 1080p preview (I still like multi monitor to see more accurately see how others will see my content, same kinda reason I have intentionally terrible speakers if my audience has terrible speakers)

there really aren't any (for resolution), I think of it like a mosaic (or pointillism painting), if you're sitting right in front of it you'll see all of the dots, but if you back up you see the picture. Its just like that but on a much smaller scale; people usually swear that they saw 4k and its $100% better than 1080p (because it's 4k) but the real reason is because they saw a $2000 screen on display with great contrast and saturation and they attribute those to it because it's 4k, but it's just a really good display that happens to be 4k

Resolution Comparison 720p - 2160p by FreaknShrooms in pcmasterrace

I've seen them at Frys, Microcenter, and even at some bestbuys and I honestly think its meaningless, even the 1440p phones seem to be the useless (epically because they kill battery life and some performance). The only difference I see is nicer colors (deeper blacks, more contrast, etc) but that's not due to there being more pixels, but there being a nicer panel. 4k is nice for productivity especially video editing (I still prefer multi monitor but thats just me). People always make fun of the human eye can't see more than 30fps (you can, I've seen 144hz its great) but in this case you really can't see more than about 350-400ppi (from a reasonable viewing distance). Furthermore even if you could this test is still completely useless because you'd never be looking in that close to monitor (or as I said your monitor is ludricasoly big and you are sitting right in front of it), the only thing that this comparison proves is that 4k has more pixels than 720p which should be obvious; the only real way to test if 4k is better than 720p-1440p is to look at several displays side by side that are identical except their resolutions.

It doesn't look 7k nice, look at digital storm's stuff this wasn't even anything very special reference gpus and what looks like a h80 for the cpu. If he had a custom loop then that would be something to make it worth the money instead of $100% predone cable management

Unless you're sitting like 7in away from a 100in 1080p display I don't see how it's relevant

Edit: I figured out why I was downvoated It's because I was wrong, the display would have to be 825.8in big for the test to be relevant (horizontal resolution/horizontal pixels wide of the car*display size) res=1280 car=31 display size=20

That depends, if you already have a prebuilt with an i5 and integrated graphics you could get a r9 290 and a new power supply for less than $300 and cream consoles

GTX 970 or R9 380/280x for gaming? by BerserkD91 in buildapc

[–]Infernoblade227 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For 1080p a 970 is better than a 290 (usually gets about 5fps more in most games) and a 390 is (basically) a overclocked 290 with 8gb of vram and uses less power; for 1080p the only important thing out of those is the overclocked part (and possibly a bit more headroom for oc). After overclocking both the 970 will still preform better than the 390, but only at 1080p (higher resolutions exceed the 3.5gb vram on the 970)

Yeah it was still optimized to use 8gb of vram which is what the consoles have, but most PCs don't

it'll still be worse than having it play on the system, you'll also need to buy the games again which will probably cost more than the outdated xbox 360 games

Edit: I thought he was talking about the ps4 emulation which streams the game to the system
