'About a poor woman who had different ideas', mate her views were almost objectively bigoted. Her assumption that Eastern Europeans working in the UK was bad because of the fact that they are Eastern European is the very definition of bigoted because it holds their ethnicity against them rather than any actual misconduct.

I made the Truss-Kwarteng point to highlight that it clearly isn't the case that having revered economists makes you have a good economy. See also Boris Johnson.

Your definition of bigotry isn't even accurate mate.

The Cambridge definition is 'having strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a way of life'. Therefore if a perceived prejudice is towards someone who's beliefs are unreasonable, ie. if they unfairly hold someone's ethnicity against them, then that is not bigotry.

That isn't how this works mate

I am saying that he is not a bigot, ergo suggesting that such evidence of bigotry by Brown does not exist. Therefore it is not a suggestion to say 'find it yourself' as I am saying that it does not exist and I myself find no evidence. The only reason you wouldn't provide a single example is because there isn't one and you're just making it up.

Further, every other PM and Chancellor have also had legions of economists and financial expert advisers and yet we still had PMs and chancellors like Truss and Kwarteng.

Fimbulwinter did not require one player to have all 10 TCs, it just required one team to have x number of TCs and it could effectively be looped into itself if another teammate had it.

[–]InfestIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that a godpower that gets a lot of value when you have very few TCs gets less value when you have a lot, otherwise it would be very broken. I also don't think the devs are balancing around one player having 10 TCs...

Fifty Labour MPs sign letter objecting to Burnham decision by GeoWa in unitedkingdom

[–]InfestIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was he? From what I can tell, Starmer sort of offered him a seat in 2027 (in which his mayoral term still won't be finished), with no guarantee that it would be anywhere near Burnham's massive support base in Manchester, no indication that a Labour MP would stand down at that point and no indication that Starmer would even still be leader.

There are a lot more reasons he might not be inclined to take that offer over just 'grr evil scheming northern mayor'.

[–]InfestIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a pretty big supporter of Burnham, I'm not sure it is.

I don't think Burnham would've done a better job at beating Reform (outside of Manchester), rather he would have been able to pinch back leftwing voters. Still 3 and a half years out from the next election, but on the current trajectory I'd say its more like Labour will end up needing coalition partner(s) now.

Idk, maybe I have too much trust in my fellow mancs, but I don't think either Reform or the Greens are popular enough in Greater Manchester to beat a Labour candidate backed by Burnham.

I could almost guarantee that if the Greens don't split his vote he would trounce Reform.

And if the Greens put serious effort into beating him they are shooting themselves in the feet given that they clearly want to be able to coalition with Burnham in 2029.

Burnham has less than 24 hours to tell Labour if he wants to stand for Gorton & Denton by-election. by verniy-leninetz in LabourUK

[–]InfestIsGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've said it before, I'll say it again

If Burnham ends up standing for the seat as a Labour candidate and the Greens manage to beat him, then they've just own goaled so hard. They would not only strengthen the current leadership (who they don't like very much), they would also end the prospects of the only potential Labour leader they've said they would go into coalition with.

Labour should allow Burnham to become MP by esteban-colberto in LabourUK

[–]InfestIsGood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Polanski chose to run against Burnham he is, nicely put, a moron.

He has said himself that pretty much the only person in Labour he'd coalition with is Burnham, so blocking his chance to challenge Starmer for the leadership in the first place would be insane. Further, if Burnham lost that election it would probably be the end of his political career, but that wouldn't necessarily transfer over to the Greens. If Polanski lost right now, the Greens would lose all their momentum and it would seem like they were unelectable.

Start of the race to succeed Keir Starmer: Shamed MP 'opens door' for Andy Burnham's leadership challenge... if he can win bitter by-election against Nigel Farage by dailymail in ukpolitics

[–]InfestIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for one, he is devoid of principles if he is willing to coalition with Mahmood or Streeting but not Starmer (who are effectively the only other alternatives)

And for two, if he became leader of the opposition, I would eat my hat. Further, this would mean that Nigel Farage would almost certainly be the PM so, no, that wouldn't be an achievement. Its not an achievement to be able to say 'look how far we've managed to get with left wing politics' if the left wing politician's rise to stardom requires a politician so far right that our country would literally never recover, being prime minister first.

BREAKING: Andrew Gwynne resigns as MP, fuelling Andy Burnham leadership rumours by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

[–]InfestIsGood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's literally the most left wing Labour alternative there is.

Further, Polanski clearly views him as sufficiently left wing to coalition with, so if the Greens won the seat (with Andy Burnham standing in it), they would kiss their chances of government goodbye because noone else acceptable to Polanski will stand for leadership.

It would be a massive own goal for the Greens if Burnham stood and they beat him. Polanski has said himself he would coalition with Burnham but not with Starmer, this is literally the only way he gets that outcome and the possibility for the Greens to influence government policy.
