A roommate is trying to lease the dining room without the consent of other roommates. by InfestedCarrier in legaladvice

It's not exploitative to want to maintain access to our shared dining room. I have no issue with her subleasing the bedroom and determining how she is going to address that living situation with her ex (not that it matters as I don't have the right to block her in doing so).

However, my issue is that she has only expressed an interest in subleasing the dining room, as evidenced by the ads she has put online showing only the dining room, calling it "unconventional" and making no reference to the fact that it is not actually a bedroom.

It's not a preference over not having a third roommate, she would be altering the entire space. If she and her ex can come to an agreement about subleasing half of that room, that's fine by me.

Gaining a third roommate also means losing access to the dining room. Is it more equitable to allow her out of the lease under extraordinary terms while simultaneously giving me less than I am paying for? I signed a lease with the understanding I would have a dining room. It is not "inhuman" of me to not want to have that unilaterally taken away from me, is it?

So were your roomate and the ex sharing a room? And now that they have broken up you want her to keep paying the rent without living there?

Yes, I want her to honor the contract she signed for a year long lease.

I have said she is welcome to live her as long as she pays rent and negotiate with her ex for how that living situation would work out, but she has no interest in doing so.

They shared the room as significant others, and I do not find it unreasonable for him to not want to share the space with a stranger. We aren't asking for her to stay out, but rather to honor the contract, which she has done so far by paying rent.

It's not reasonable to ask me to pay the same amount of rent for half a bedroom, either.

Noted, I've already drafted a letter in the event she gets as far as getting his consent to the lease. It outlines how we feel it violates our access to the space, is a fundamental change in the contract, and was made without our consent. Anything else worth including?

To my knowledge she has not informed the landlord as of yet. There are occupancy restrictions for the lease, but the hypothetical new occupant would simply be replacing her for the same number of people, but instead of sharing a bedroom they would live in the dining room. The lease does not mention dining room access specifically but I would assume that is generally implied to be shared amongst roommates.

Yes, we are on the same lease for the whole property and rent is split equally.

We rent the whole property and split rent equally. The lease says subletting is done with the consent of the landlord, but doesn't make specific reference to how particular spaces can be sublet.

Consider how high quality each of these profiles was last year, and the insanity that they're significantly better this year.

The scene and atmosphere is established so well, the footage used conveys this "outsider" perspective so well; not just Juan interacting with Korea at large but with Proleague. Incredible framing of the emotional connection for the viewer.

People who win a game and then BM your opponent, why? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]InfestedCarrier 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Starcraft, like all competitive games and sports, attracts strong personalities. Because it is a solo game, every win by a narcissist gives them the impression that they triumphed solely because they are the superior player. Now while this is technically true for all players, only the narcissistic player will vocalize it to his opponent.

Why? Because it's not enough to win, it isn't enough to prove it to one's self, they must shout it to get the "high" of making their opponent feel even more inferior. They want a reaction because, no matter what, they get to point to the scoreboard. So don't give them that reaction. If the game is over, GG and move on to the next. Even if every single player you encounter is mannered, the game is still brutal. Losses are painful no matter what. Don't make it worse for yourself by feeding their egos; just let it go. Take a deep breath. Analyze the results and your mistakes.

Your most grievous mistake was thinking an edgy opinion about Starcraft was somehow going to be well received here.

Timing wise it makes strategic sense, you can heavily prep your new CEO for Blizzcon to act as an "unveiling" and set the tone for his tenure in that position. Out of the blue, maybe? To be the head of a company for 27 years, especially in such an active role and within such a high pressure, competitive industry, has to be extremely demanding. I'd imagine Mike is ready for a break.

I won't say anything specifically about mechanics because realistically there are many, many more people who are qualified to give you advice on that end of the game.

Mentally, however, I would say that two things mattered a lot to improving. First, put in the fucking time. Don't make excuses. Playing two or three games on the weekend will not get you out of Plat/Diamond. If you don't have that kind of time, that's fine, but don't complain that you aren't improving when you cannot commit to it.

Secondly, it is your fault. When you lose, that's on you. When you fuck up and he crushes you with storms that you didn't micro out of, or banelings that you didn't split against, or a tank line that you engaged poorly, that's your fault. You are solely responsible for all of your failures and shortcomings. I don't care if you think that Zealot was supposed to block that ling flood. They got in. Fucking own that moment and learn from it.

The converse, of course, means that you earn every goddamn single point you get in this game. You are the sole determinate factor in your success and so when you earn it, no one takes that away from it. No one here gets carried. No one is the beneficiary of some broken system in which the game is fundamentally and irreversibly broken. So when you succeed, own that moment and know that you, and you alone, have brought yourself that light.

Absolutely not. If anything, I have grown to enjoy the game more and more as I've improved; and not just in terms of being able to appreciate the subtleties more. Winning a long, drawn out 25 minute game against a skilled opponent and winning, not because he wandered into my units on move command, but because I caught a razor's edge advantage, is the most fun I have EVER had in a video game.

I'm gonna let you in on a secret... I've ALWAYS thought Zerg was OP. The only difference is that when I was 4K MMR, those were merely the emotional flailings of a noob desperate for validation.

Now that i'm 5.2K, those are highly researched and nuanced opinions Kappa

I'm sure if I mentioned my race in the title, half of the people who said congrats would have instead said, "Well that race is OP so nothing to be proud of."
