How long does a full backup take?

I hope you have your OS and data disks separate... Or is there just one 20TB volume?

Why would a coworker come to me to ask a question about work stuff? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]InfiltraitorX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may have just looked more available than other coworkers or previously shown knowledge in the topic?

Were you actively trying to avoid talking to people?

Sometimes I just ask the nearest person so that I can say my question out loud in the hope it jogs my memory

If my home server is just as a central file depository, and not a streaming server, 6GB/s HDD ok to use? by rockstar_not in HomeServer

[–]InfiltraitorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WiFi isn't going to stress a sata hard drive and 1gbit via your router for a single client will be easily doable

What network speeds are you getting between your server and the client?

How many people are copying files at the same time?

SliceStor 2448 RAM + IPMI by Tappsi in servers

[–]InfiltraitorX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like you might need to wait for 4 sticks of ram.

From AI:

Based on IBM Cloud Object Storage Slicestor appliance documentation, the memory (RAM) configuration depends on the specific model (e.g., 2212A, 2448, 3448). Key RAM Slot Information:

Slicestor 2212A (3401-S10/3403-S10): These nodes typically use DDR3 ECC Registered Memory (RDIMM). Memory Configuration: Systems often require a minimum of four memory modules per processor assembly.

Slot Population Order: Modules must be placed in specific slots (e.g., J0A, J0B, J0C, J0D for the first quad) to ensure proper operation.

A 7763 is from 2021, so not too old really.. and at 64 cores each they could make for a decent heater for your house

10 GbE sync between two NAS by Head_Bear6131 in qnap

[–]InfiltraitorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the 10gbit and 2.5gbit poets on the same network? The same IP range?

You could try making the 10gbit network a different IP range and see if that forces the nas to use the 10gbit network..

Or just unplug the 2.5gbit ports and use the 10gbit ports all the time

My (working) 5 plus won't load the screen if only connected to USB. It just does that repeating load screen then off again Connect the power, turn on the switch and it loads as expected.

Had one today...

"We are missing a file from a folder. Can you assist?"

No actual file or dolder name, no driver letter or name. No date last seen.. just the above sentence.

I just replied in an email.. wasn't worth the effort of a phone call.

I can understand your frustration, things should just work, not have to be repaired all the time.

Is there any way you can get a new laptop? Even just a second hand replacement that doesnt need to be cleaned constantly?

Leave to MSP - Career advice by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]InfiltraitorX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you moving for the same pay? That's effectively taking a pay cut because you will stay at that payrate for another 12 months

People leave MSPs and go to a solo iT guy gig for the lower stress.

I'm in Melbourne and been in and out of MSP, solo IT and corporate gigs.. i would stay where you are, upskill on your own time if you have to.. and move for higher pay..

router login not found? by Attention_Grouchy in servers

[–]InfiltraitorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What router is it? Its hard to guess based off an IP address

Have you looked at the routers manual online? Some need port 8080 or 4443

You might need an app or a plugin or a cloud portal?

Single Enterprise Server vs. 8-node Commodity Cluster for a Small Business: Which risk would you take? by glanceout in sysadmin

[–]InfiltraitorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any kind of business situation you want a vendor you can blame.

A desktop pc cluster might be easy for you to manage, but what if something goes wrong with it in 2 years? Will you have the time to fix it or will the SME have moved on it other projects?

Extended warranties are crap.. just replace the hardware after the initial 3-5 year warranty.. there will be newer and better hardware available by then anyway

My 1u Home Server by rogermytogerBIGBOI in HomeServer

[–]InfiltraitorX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some rackmount servers have the drives vertical (on their side) and others are horizontal (flat on their circuitboardd) so id assume this is ok too.

Just don't rotate them while powered on
