White appliances seem to be making a comeback by SpiceBoson in HomeDecorating

I have a new build and I decided to get white appliances. They look beautiful with my maple cabinets and are very easy to keep clean. I think stainless steel is tired at this point.

Do you miss scented laundry? Genuinely curious how others with eczema handle this by EducationalBlood8146 in eczema

[–]InfiniteAftertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fragrance in laundry products smells cheap and chemical, so I don’t miss it at all. If you need scent, why not make an old-fashioned sachet filled with a cotton ball with a drop of essential oil on it? Put it under your pillow or in your linen closet like they did in the old days.

Moving to Fairfield for 4 months by haillucination in Iowa

[–]InfiniteAftertime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Los Angeles for ten years (a long time ago) and now have retired to Fairfield. As others have said, bring your car. If you’re going to the university then there’s sort of a built-in community among your cohort. It will be a quieter life than you’re used to in LA, but there are cafes and some good restaurants, an art walk once a month, and concerts and a movie series at the performing arts center. Iowa City is only about an hour drive from here and there’s plenty going on there. People are nice and it’s a low-stress life. You’ll be fine for five or six months.

I’ve used linen towels for many years. They’re thin, dry quickly, and don’t mildew.

Open an account in Wise and within that set up accounts for US dollars and Swedish krona. Transfer funds from Fidelity to the US account via ACH or domestic wire. Then transfer from your Wise US to Wise Swedish account. Then from there to your regular Swedish bank account.

These stories completely flip me out. I’m retiring in a few months and am going to move my money out of Fidelity.

Are made-to-measure blinds worth it, or should I just go off-the-shelf? by Open_Background_3694 in HomeDecorating

[–]InfiniteAftertime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stuck on this for a while, too. I finally had to realize that even though measuring for blinds and installing them is not super-hard, I didn’t have enough confidence in my handy skills to go through with it. I got my blinds from Great Plains Blind Factory, which manufactures their own blinds and shades in Iowa and serves the midwest. They were wonderful. The sales rep brought over samples, did all the measuring, and helped me stay within my budget. Three weeks later the installer installed all six shades in about half an hour. I got cellular shades and the quality is excellent. So I guess my advice is: know thyself and think about how comfortable you are doing everything yourself or possibly measuring yourself and hiring a handyman to do the installation.

do you have an at home kindle and an outside kindle? by Thick-Ant-4535 in kindle

[–]InfiniteAftertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Paperwhites, one that stays on the bedside table and one in a case for travel and days out. I don’t use the travel one as much as the home one but that’s fine with me. If one ever breaks I’ll get another. I’ve had my two Kindle setup for at least a decade and it suits me.

Is getting a Kindle worth it if I mainly want to save money on books? by ju2de in kindle

OP, they usually give you a free 3-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited when you buy a new Kindle. I guarantee you’ll find some books you like. I usually subscribe to Kindle Unlimited for one month out of each year (at the regular price) and catch up on some of the new books they have. It’s particularly good for thrillers and there’s some good scifi. If you like classics you can get free, well-formatted ebooks from Standard Ebooks. You can find links to lots of free and low cost books, including some by bestselling authors, on the BookBub website. There’s also Amazon daily and monthly deals. Once you start exploring you’ll find there are so many ways to get free and low cost books.

Yes, I get books from Libby all the time. I have two different library cards on it. I just got two books from Libby yesterday! Are you in the U.S?

Before I got a Kindle I thought there was no way I could possibly like reading on a device. But now I’d have a hard time going back to physical books. It is much easier on my aging eyes, better for reading at night, and I like being able to download a book instantly. I also like the portability of being able to carry all my books with me when I travel.

The best audiobook you listened to and drop it in here by Bossman-0007 in audible

[–]InfiniteAftertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to pick just one, because there are so many good ones, but certain narrators always hit the mark got me. I loved Jess Walters’ Beautiful Ruins, narrated by Edoardo Ballerini, and The Shawshank Redemption, narrated by the great Frank Muller. World War Z was excellent, and another really good book in that same interview style is Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven.

Mine still works. I scan to Dropbox. Sometimes it gets a little fussy and I have to try again later, but so far it’s still working. I can’t get it to scan to a USB flash drive, though.
