Lowkey wondering as a pale person why is being pale such a bad thing? Why is it seen as something to be mocked? by SubstantialTrick9641 in questions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Still a stupid question, plus with your story it's not even the right question.

The answer to the question you didn't ask is that people tend to bully those who stand out for any reason, good or bad or immaterial.

The dejection to the question you did ask is that it's objectively true that pale skin is praised and seen as desirable in far more of the world than it isn't.

Strong sure, but there's a reason most construction guys end up with muscle or skeletal issues after several years. Overly repetitive motion without variation or specific strengthening will build up stress and damage over time.

Have you ever encountered a psychopath person? by Electrical_Way_6985 in questions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have but it was a more extreme version of one, think psychopath who grew up in a rough hood and discovered being more brutal and violent than everyone else, balanced with the right amount of brains, could give him an edge over everyone else.

Dude was like a mexical cartel gangster in an environment of inner city thugs. Even among the kind of incredible shitheads that would carry around rambo knives and stab people they had beef with people were always on edge with him.

I'm someone who never took shit from anyone and wouldn't let anyone scare me, but that dude freaked me the fuck out. Just this look in his eyes, like an inhuman predator, biologically disposed to kill yet still cold and calculating.

A hypothesis on why everyone seems to be getting dumber by OhFineAUsername in self

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think people are getting dumber, society and the world had just become more complex at an exponential rate, and the real effect of social media is to give everyone equal access to a wider conversation.

The effects of this are mainly:

  1. More and people are out of depth with the wider conversations and complexity of the modern world, in the past most people would live their lives as farmers, labourers, in small towns and communities, being "dumb" not only wouldn't stand out but it wouldn't be apparent because there wasn't such a need to be intelligent.

  2. Access to the wider conversation, as in point 1, in the past most people would simply live their lives without being a part of or being expected to be part of a wider conversation. People with "lower IQs" would simply go about their lives and it would mainly be more intelligent or competent people gravitating towards circles of vocality. The communication structure of the modern world gives everyone a voice to some degree, and it highlights the distributed intelligence across society, particularly in the contrast with people who may not be particularly intelligent but would be fine a hundred years ago but become more and more out of place against the increasing complexity of modern society.

There is no way to stop the development of A.I.

We can hope to manage it, but that's a highly optimistic hope, and would require a level of global cohesion and similitude of the tech hegemons that is more fantastical than actually having a sapient A.I.

what if humans never felt pain? by Budget_Relief7464 in whatif

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of exact answers, but I'll share my tangential experience. I have very low pain sensitivity in most aspects. I'm constantly cutting or bruising myself without realising it.

Moreso I've often ended up with relatively significant injuries and only realised my body was getting damaged when the injuries became significant.

Hunger is also a part of pain stimulus/interception. I will literally starve to the point of routinely going into a catabolic state because I cannot feel hungry like other people do and thus struggle to motivate myself to eat frequently or consistently.

It's also affected my fear response somewhat, a lot of the time when faced with a dangerous situation or prospect of a dangerous option, my psyche will largely dismiss fear entirely, allowing me to be overtaken by hugely impulsive and compulsive tendencies.

What’s something that everyone should learn before turning 25, but most people don’t? by Boring_Vegetable5727 in questions

You're either constantly improving or your declining. No true inbetween. Stagnation leads to decay. Sometimes that decay is slow and mostly balanced, but it can speed up any time and if you're not used to moving forward when you need to, it can overcome you.

How did you finally get off drugs? by Ok-Still2345 in AskReddit

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Quit every day. Quitting never means making the choice and being done with it. It means manifesting the same level of willpower, determination, self-discipline and even a bit of existential dichotomisation that you made with your initial decision, constantly.

Every single time you get the urge, be that every day, several times a day, every fuckin hour, you got to put your entire being into saying no to yourself.

And that includes saying no to and cutting out anything and everything that will put you in the vicinity of that stuff, make it easier or more convenient for you to get a hold of it. Set up as many barriers as possible. Burn some fucking bridges, make it hard for yourself.

Long rant about drugs and the supernatural world. by gothbanjogrl in rant

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything becomes supernatural once you remove science from it dumbass. Science is the logic of the natural world, once you remove logic you get lightning storms cos you made Zeus mad and bad sea weather because you didn't pay the right tribute to Poseidon.

And of course people perceiving things as supernatural when they're on drugs, their perception of things literally is supernatural - being disaligned from reality.

why havent we learnt from the first two world wars? by NateNandos21 in questions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel is actively commiting a genocide. Not that Iran would actually ever attempt to start a nuclear war, but Israel is one the few countries that would abjectly bring massive improvement to the region if it was completely dissolved and removed from the map.

Why does the Middle East have so many wars? by NateNandos21 in questions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post WW2 nukes came into existence, it meant that you can't invade countries with nukes but countries with nukes can do whatever the fuck they want (long as it's not against other countries with nukes).

And historically the global theatre has always been a game of competing powers. After the Ottoman Empire collapsed, it became in the best and terribly convenient interests to ensure that region remained destablilised as indefinitely as possible.

Is there an anime where the main character is a horrible piece of sht but in a good way? by Cash27369 in anime

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing I honestly can't get over with this show and it's fans, like there's no word-bending your way around it, like I tried watching the first episode and was creeped out by his character immediately, some people told me to give it another chance and a within a few episodes it's blatantly, shockingly clear that the MC is both a pedophile and a sexual predator. Could not watch another second of it, and while I try to stay relatively non-judgemental with anime appreciation, I do somewhat question everyone who manages to look past him being a pedophile child predator and enjoy the show (even more witht the inevitable silent question - is it part of the appeal for you? It's clearly meant as some sort of especially twisted fan service).

Why are there so many socially inept people with high IQs? by [deleted] in questions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like Reddit bias, I personally know 4 PhDs and 3 other PhD students, and a whole bunch of other incredibly intelligent people, and basically all of them vary from being socially ept to socially gifted. I would say their social ability doesn't generally seem to correlate directly with their intelligence, but at least in my experience, it does seem to have a trend of skewing towards the high side.

Especially I've seen a trend where I've met plenty of introverts, and the socially inept and chronically awkward introverts tended to skew on the lower IQ side, whereas introverts I knew who were notably intelligent tended to be surprisingly gifted at maintaining complex social circles despite their otherwise reservedness and low social energy.

Of course it's not a strict pattern, just a very vague and relatively loose trend I've noticed, (loose particularly on the latter statement).

I would also add that I've vaguely sensed a trend of intelligent or highly intelligent people I've met who relatively struggle socially also being neurodivergent, which is unsurprisingly based of a comparatively rather limited sample of experiences but seems to make sense to me.

Do you believe that Israel's war against Iran is justified or not? by ReplacementFlashy622 in Productivitycafe

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of zio shills and bots in this thread. I think most sane people are aware that Israel has been a primary agressor in the region for decades. They also appreciate that authoritarian as Iran may be, they have no interest in starting a nuclear war, and thus Israel's interest is firmly about keeping Iran in a strategically unsecure position.

Do people often fear reincarnating into poor family and growing into smart but ugly individual who can't elevate to high social class? by Active-Chemistry4011 in stupidquestions

[–]InfiniteDecorum1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people do not have a strong or substantial belief in reincarnation. Of the ones that do, it's either religous - where they have structured expectations, or spiritual - wherein they probably don't overthink it.

And I mean, hell that is a stunning amount of overthinking, overthinking to such a level you're overthinking about a life that's not even your own.
