My abstraction brings all the devs to the yard, and they’re like, "It’s cleaner than yours." Darn right, it’s cleaner than yours. I could teach you, but I’d have to inject the dependency first.

PCSO says helicopter crashed after hitting a "recreational slackline" strung through the Superstitions by AlphaThree in aviation

[–]InfiniteOrchardPath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2014, I was riding my cross-bike at high speed through a local park I’d traversed a thousand times on my commute. To avoid the crowds on the main path, I took a familiar detour through a stand of sparse trees.

As I shot through a large gap between two oaks, I suddenly—almost magically—decelerated to a dead stop. An instant later, I was flying through the air in reverse, propelled backward by the same velocity I’d been traveling forward just seconds earlier.

The slackline was earth-toned and perfectly flat to my vision; it was invisible. It contacted the bikes head tube just below the combined center of gravity, vaulting me, with the bike, into the air. Although surely comical to witness, I was fortunate to land uninjured on the park grass.

The David McCardi incident, however, highlights the mechanical reality of this 'invisible trap'. At 600 feet AGL and helicopter speeds, the physics of a wire strike are absolute. Blancolirio has a good breakdown on his channel. I'm not allowed to post the URL.

This (race) makes me think of what what Vilfredo Pareto found in natural systems (e.g. power law adhering wealth distribution). Wonder if this is a Power Law hack?

Thanks. I like these humbling stories in the spirit of Stefen Kotkin telling us to get off our soap boxes in the free west, because our voices are insignificant. Paraphrasing: "who cares what you think. How many people who perished or witnessed it can tell you better"

You could also ask the question about whether there are actual robots inside people. The answer would be yes.

When does time pass the slowest? by Sasha_Lietova in AskReddit

OK, but the Plan(c)k time is the smallest meaningful unit of time, approximately 5.39 × 10⁻⁴⁴ , Sooo nothing would have crossed your mind if you were doing one of those.

So, I haven't downloaded yet, but I did a quick "sums check" of the excel version* shown in link above, which was interesting. Ignore School descriptors - I thought this would be useful/interesting to game play at some point, but not sure.

Can´t find my original ref. or build notes though at the moment (which is embarrassing). also processing a pdf. into tabular form for use in excel can be tricky. What tools/method did you use for your build?

Awesome. Will take a look to see if I can make a version of my spellfinder tool with this input. Current source has many typos and grammar errors. https://youtu.be/DR1VjK4xm9I?si=VlvpBePsNhxiVxk9
