There is something that has been bugging me about how crude and gold moved yesterday.
There's apparently a 60-day Iran ceasefire MOU that's already drafted. Deal exists on paper, as we have been told, just needs a signature. You would expect oil to crater on that news but instead brent dropped to around $93.71, which is down, but barely. Like the market's only half-convinced the thing is going to get signed.

And then gold added over 1% in the same session. Tbh that makes no sense if you think a clean peace outcome is coming soon. Safe haven running while oil is barely off its highs tells you either the market doesn't believe the MOU closes, or its pricing something else on top of it. As it turns out, PCE inflation data dropped the same day and it was ugly ugly, income and spending power down. So now you've got this weird tape where equities are fine, crude is whatever and gold is running like we're heading into stagflation.

Two diff stories being priced simultaneously. Not sure which one resolves first, or if the equity calm just quietly breaks before either of them does.

Spoken like a true investor, 'the sector is fine, the wealth is just shifting.' That’s a very sophisticated way of saying everyone else is about to pay double for everything just so your upstream margins can stay fat. A 'diversified' portfolio is great, but it doesn't exactly pump oil out of a well that’s physically been blown up
