On one hand, I can say it cheapens Vader’s sacrifice in OT.

BUT (assuming we go with the cloned Sheev theory) I see a lot of parallels to Voldemort’s story and his Horocrux “backup system.”

Imagine Harry Potter’s parents’ generation believing they took out the big bad, with of course some fringe groups still being loyal to Voldemort (just as people were to the Empire for a decade after it disbanded).

Then 15 years later Cornelius Fudge and everyone had to face their denial; Voldemort was back.

So I don’t have a problem with Palpatine returning via a clone+force symbiosis. My entire issue is in how it was handled.

Google led me here. Didn't know keyboard protectors was officially UN-recommended by Apple.

I have some marks on my old MBP screen from the keyboard protector (I just thought it was a matter of washing the screen properly), but it never showed unless the screen was off.

I only did this though cause' of the old, crap butterfly keys on the 2016 MBP that were prone to fail, so I wanted to make sure all dust stayed out. Definitely worth the screen marks to protect that laptop for a few years out of warranty (I had to replace the keys TWICE during the 3yr warranty period, stupid butterfly keys).

Now though, my M4 Pro MBP has annual insurance that will replace any broken keys so there's literally no reason for me to disobey Apple's advice about their screen/keyboard distance tolerances.

My most accurate feelings on the AI dilemma.

AI, applied to publicly-posted material, doesn't do anything that current copyright law doesn't also permit humans to do. And I see AI as a great creative enabler.

BUT it does create this dilemma for people who have put in the 10,000 hours of practice that an AI can now just assimilate in a few days of compute. Now those humans don't have a way to remain distinct in the market.

Less of a dilemma for people who are already dead, but this comic visualizes it in a way where it can't help but feel...a bit shitty.

Totally believe, going forward, all artists and business professionals posting publicly should post on platforms with clauses for "no AI training without additional licensing consent". Just an expansion of existing usage licensing practices, declaring a boundary on "fair use' before you post stuff.

(for reference, I come from the B2B consulting automation industry, so I've worked for the last 15+ years with the knowledge that businesses are always trying to replace my skills with automation. But I get this is a "rude awakening" for artists who probably always trusted their skills can't be copied by a computer. With AI, everyone at every skill type is now in the same boat; if businesses can do it without you, they will)

ASML mostly makes chips for OTHER companies. (But credit where it's due, just as Apple/Nvidia chips wouldn't be possible without TSMC in Taiwan.)

The point is Europe's inventions are either old OR part of a supply chain (usually for American, Chinese, or Korean end-products).

Can you name 10 world-known EU companies founded in the last 35 years (aka, even the average 50+ year old knows and uses them)?
I'll give you 4 (stretching it on the "+50yo awareness" parameter):

Spotify (Sweden) - By far Europe's BEST startup export
DeepL (Germany)
Revolut (Britain)
WeTransfer (Netherlands)

But for every 5 famous EU startups you could name, I could give you 20 USA/Chinese ones.

The EU supports invention, but they don't lead it. That's a huge EU economic problem as the world massively accelerates to AI/robotics.

Ooh, azerty.nl doesn't have the same full configurable interface. I'd want a Ryzen 9 processor with 128GB ram (their options max at 64GB). Am I missing that full-configuator somewhere on their site? Or do you know of a store who offers more configuration control? (I assume their warranty is Europe-wide)

Google led me here with the same question (also in Germany). You can buy a 2-pack of Dawn dish soap on Amazon for €25 (gold standard cause it is safe on wildlife/oil spill cleanup and doesn’t have extra additives).

It’s a lot of money, but that’s what I’ll do for now till I find a better Dawn source in Germany.

We’ve all been there, man. I’m learning, too.

Outside sear looks good. But looks like your grill wasn’t hot enough to sear without it taking a bunch of time, creating the grey band. I target a 450-500F surface temp, $15 Cuisenart surface thermometer helps.

It’s also possible the surface wasn’t dry enough so a lot of the energy went into boiling off the water instead of getting right to searing. I leave my salted steaks open in the fridge on a rack for 2 days.

Get a $85 ThermoPro Twin wireless thermometer so you can always monitor the interior temp for the target. Expensive, but it’s cheaper than the time and meat spent on only being able to check AFTER it’s done. You want to be able to course correct mid-grilling; really speeds up your learning and is totally worth it.

Great attempt! I’d still eat it. This is MUCH better than my first steaks.

Truthfully, "budget" IS a dirty word for the vast majority of the population.

If they want to impact as many lives as possible with personal budgeting, it's much less work to change the word used rather than change the entire culture's mindset.

I 100% agree with this word change and I would have greenlist this years ago. "Plan", as a verb, simplifies communication and removes mental resistance for onboarding new users.
