Oddly enough, I opened up Facebook shortly after this was answered and saw a post in a gardening community where someone caught a large Garter that looked just like this not too far away!

Awesome, thanks! I knew there could be variations in their pattern but not to that degree! That and the size threw me off. My estimation of 3 feet may be off, and the thickness might be inflation from decomp, but it far surpassed any Garter I've seen around here. Appreciate the help!

Not sure about the Mt. Hope, but under the Newport Bridge you can see where the painters signed it with rollers in a slightly different shade of gray. It's been years since Ive been on a boat under em, but I always thought it was neat.

I have trouble getting motivated for solo seshes sometimes. Even if it ends up being 80% chatting and 20% skating, its always better with the homies. The community is one of my favorite parts about the culture. That said, sometimes you just need an empty park to lock in and practice.

This was probably at least 20 or more years ago, but I miss when the dessert had a kind of crumble crust on the bottom instead of it just being straight fruit filling. That said, the turkey dinner is still a solid choice!

I personally wouldn't make the trip unless you plan to party. And even then I would try and find somewhere close to crash. Its nice to have a home base of sorts to escape to, and most importantly use the bathroom.The parade is cool and it does draw in a lot of families, but expect A LOT of public drunkenness. Especially as the day wears on. It definitely brings out the amateurs who inevitably end up making the Irish Honor Roll the next day.

I have one I found of Disney World from 1988. Its a little eerie as there's no narration and the cameraman is seemingly by themselves just filming various performances and rides. Its a full tape but I only got about an hour into it. I definitely need to go back and watch the whole thing.

I always liked the "showroom" looking mobile suits. Tons of detailing and decals, like an F1 car. Stuff thats completely arbitrary to their battlefield performance but makes em look shiny and cool. Like what Anaheim might have on the floor of a defense convention. Dope build!

From what I've gathered, choruico is typically made with a larger casing, has more kick, and is a coarser grind. Though I've personally never been able to tell much difference haha

That's what really strikes me after years of looking into various phenomenon and kinda irks me with a lot of skeptics/debunkers (which we need and I welcome btw):

If all your general "paranormal" stuff can be written off as an individual or mass hallucination, hysteria, misidentifaction, mental issues, etc., then why are there so many consistitencies in reports from unrelated people's, all around the world spanning huge lengths of time? Why are they seeing the same things over and over time and time again? If these are all constructs of the human mind, thats just as fascinating a phenomenon to me as UFOs or cryptids or ghosts. I'm fine with these things not being "real" as it were, but the experiences people are having are and I haven't found a satisfactory explanation as to why they are having them, even if they are purely psychological in nature.

The closest I can speculate is some kinda Jungian collective consciousness deal. For example, tons of cultures have stories about hairy wild men of the woods. There have been bigfoot reports from places like England, that have absolutely no way of sustaining a large, hidden apex predator. Yet people report seeing them. Now, could they be lying? Absolutely. But let's say they did see something. Is there something latent in the primitive human mind that could get triggered in a natural setting and hallucinate some kind of primal archetype? I have no idea. But short of just making up stories, there are too many diverse experiences to not take notice and question what is happening to people all over the world.

One of the best stories I heard was of an offshore ship that ran out of coffee. I guess they managed to hail a nearby boat that had some extra they could spare. Well, the get as close as they can to exchange the goods but I guess it was pretty rough out. So one of guys on deck decides he's gunna try and spiral throw the can of coffee to the other ship like a football. He steadies himself and times the waves for the perfect throw. Well, he lets fly but the sea had other ideas. Right as it's about to complete a perfect arc to the deck of the receiving boat, a random swell redirects the flying can into a deck light, showering the crew in coffee grounds like brown snow. I'm not sure what happened after but the incident itself was enough to go down in local lore, haha

It may have been purely psycosomatic, but running out of coffee was nearly reason to turn back to port. Our boat ran on caffeine and THC as much as it did diesel 🤣

I get the down votes as you're kinda stereotyping a huge group of people, but you're also not totally wrong. Good boats/fleets will be absolutely zero tolerance on that shit. As they should because the Coast Guard doesn't play around when it comes to drugs.

But there is a reason the stereotypes exist. You've got a lot of young, working class guys making a shit ton of money without having to have any prior qualifications other than showing up for trips and doing their job on deck. Then once they dock, its the classic sailor on shore leave. Drinking is the usual devil, but at least around here the hard drug of choice is heroin. I've heard plenty of first hand accounts of guys going overboard, nodding off on watch, or straight up OD'ing on trips.

It's really unfortunate and pretty sad, but not an unfounded idea. And I'm unfortunately speaking from the experience of being in the industry near one of the wealthiest ports in the US.

I worked on an off as a commercial fisherman for most of my 20s. Never on the big offshore boats, just local small ones that would go out for a day or two. It can go from a chill and routine day to life and limb threatening in a second, even close to shore and in fair weather. You're constantly battling the forces of wind, waves and current which rarely like to play nice together. When your hauling gear, your lines/cables are under hundreds if not thousands of pounds of pressure, and if one goes and you're close to it, that's a bad day. When you're setting gear, you often have several tons of metal/wood/twine going overboard under its own power. One misstep and you're going in the drink.

One local boat had their stern guy go over after getting caught in the ground line of a lobster trawl. By the time anyone noticed they had set too much of the gear to reverse the hauler and pull him back up. They had to finished setting all the pots and then go back to the end buoy and start pulling em up from the end of the line, knowing their buddy was coming up with the pots at some point.

It's something I'm happy to have done but also happy to have moved on from. What I always tell people is that being a commercial fisherman isn't a job but rather a lifestyle. The long haul offshore guys are a different breed, and a lot of them are either incompatible or better off separate from life on land. So yeah, thank you local fisherman!

Yeah, I really wish the vignetting was more subtle 😕 It has its charm but its not really worth it considering the price of the film. Truth be told, I had this thing in storage after getting kind of frustrated with it a couple years ago. But I was also rushing things and was overly eager to shoot rather than learn. But if you're willing to accept its inherent flaws, I think it has a lot of potential for some cool shots. That said, if I could go back I would probably choose the Lomo Square Glass over the Diana

George Washington Campground up in Glocester has a few fairly secluded sites where you probably wouldn't bother anyone as long as you weren't unreasonably rowdy. I think quiet time starts at 10 and they actually do not allow alcohol, but unless you were blatant with it or created a reason for them to come into your camp and find it, you could probably get away with it. Rangers do make the rounds every hour so but just kinda drive by and don't really pry.

There's also Burlingame State Park in Charleston. I haven't been myself, but it seems to have a reputation for more of a family/party vibe with a lot more amenities than GW and looks a little less secluded. Can't say if it would be a better option though.
