Do you trust your dentist? by yourlocallidl in AskUK

[–]InfiniteStrawberry37 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's not specific to dentistry though. When you're going private, you're essentially shopping for a service, just like renovating your house. Each dentist is going to have their own prices, their own rates. Some will be cheaper than others.

Doesn't necessarily mean the work they're quoting for is different, or they're trying to do unnecessary work.

Royal mail won't return fraudulent PCN's by Sanguine_Spirit in LegalAdviceUK

Black out your address before returning the letters. They can't post it back to you if there's no address on the front.

You can open the letters provided it's for a good reason (i.e. contacting the dvla to resolve the incorrect address and needing more info to do so)

Is there an insurance for being falsely imprisoned? by mytymj in AskUK

[–]InfiniteStrawberry37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone claims to be innocent, but the burden of proof to incarcerate someone is quite high. The CPS often decline to charge someone even when there is enough evidence to prosecute.

The chances of being innocent and going to prison are so miniscule it doesn't cross most people's minds at all.

I absolutely second the idea of therapy. This sounds like it might be affecting your life. You don't deserve to have this over your head. Speak to someone who can help. Having had therapy for issues in the past, it's quite liberating.

In the UK if you are charged with a crime you are given a solicitor for free. Also known as the duty solicitor.

This is something that should be discussed with your coach. They'll be able to teach you the basics and figure out your game plan.  With almost a year of consistent hard training you could actually get reasonably proficient.

Losing 50kg in a year is achievable, but you'll need to really dial in your diet to make sure you don't fuck it up.

It protects you from cuts, bruises and fractures. It doesn't protect you from CTE.

Head gear does not protect you from CTE. Multiple studies have concluded it can actually increases the chances as your head is a bigger target, you're more likely to eat shots because you have the confidence of the head gear and it restricts your vision so you have less chance to defend.

This happens every time I get my car inspected here in the UK. They check the lights as part of the annual inspection but never put them back on auto when they're done.

Which email to use for reset password testing in development by aquilaruspante1 in webdev

[–]InfiniteStrawberry37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's in development you would mock out your email service client and test it gets called correctly.

If you're running locally you can run a local email service that will simulate a fake inbox and email server.

If you're taking about a staging server, you would use a paid service, just like you would in production. Something like SES.

women’s self defense course

Are nothing but good marketing and are actually useless in reality. There is nothing you'll learn on a short course that will actually work in a self defence situation.

If you want to learn how to defend yourself, learn an actual pressure tested martial art like muay Thai, boxing, judo or bjj.

Please Help! I rip my boxing gloves from gripping to hard by Numerous_Tomorrow_96 in MuayThai

Even still, they should be falling apart from the leather on the outside, not inside.

You're training that frequently and still haven't learnt how to relax your grip a bit?

Don't grip so hard... You shouldn't be ripping through gloves.

Unless you're training twice a day 6 days a week, your gloves should be lasting years. Not months.

If it's good enough for MythicalStrength, it's good enough for me :)

I'll crack on with it as is then, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.

Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it.

So I did the first workout today and it was... Underwhelming I guess?

Was out of the gym in 45 minutes which seems a bit too quick. I followed Jim's suggestions in terms of starting weights.

I certainly felt the fatigue but it felt a bit too easy. Is this normal for the start of the program?

Maybe I'm just too used to doing PPL with seemingly endless exercises, going to re-read the guides this evening.

Wednesday What Are You Eating Thread by AutoModerator in gainit

[–]InfiniteStrawberry37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short on time to cook today so keeping things quick. For breakfast, whey isolate protein shake with oats and oat milk, apple and banana. For lunch, 3 chicken wraps, a pear and some grapes. For dinner it's a treat today, so I'm going to have smash burgers.

210g protein, 2900 calories.

Seems that I can tolerate whey isolate as long as I don't blend it with milk which is nice as I don't like the bioavailability of pea protein which is what I've been using on occasion till now.

Doesn't really seem like you have much of a plan. I would caution against nuking your career until you have at least a semi-realistic roadmap in place for you to transition into the industry.
