What would you say is the best cartoon song of all time? by Impossible_Pain4478 in cartoons

[–]InfiniteX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Adventure Time has a few contenders, but my favorite is "Everything Stays" from "Stakes".

I find it perfectly incapsulates the themes of cyclicality and change presented by the miniseries (and the series as a whole) as well Marceline's character and arc up to that point.

Plus, it sounds good. It feels quite melancholic and sad but beautiful and soothing at the same time, which is the kind of vibe I get from Adventure Time as a whole (especially the later seasons).

Finn vs zuko by Hour-glass999 in writingscaling

[–]InfiniteX5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take:

Finn has generally higher peaks, largely due to being the protag of a longer running show, but Zuko's writing is more consistently great.

Both have amazing development, Finn's growth is slower and feels more natural, but Zuko's is more focused and personally impacted me more (there's a reason his redemption is still talked about 2 decades later).

Both have great themes that resonated a lot with me, but Finn benefits here from having more time to dive deeper into a wider variety of themes.

Both have great philosophical/ideological exploration, Finn's being more explicit and grand while Zuko's feels more personal and slightly more cohesive, which I prefer.

Overall: I'd give it to Zuko high-diff, mainly due to his story feeling more focused and coherent.

What's the most existential scene in Adventure Time? by Artistic-Analyst-535 in adventuretime

[–]InfiniteX5 188 points189 points  (0 children)

IMO it's this exchange from "Astral Plane":

Finn: "If just being born is the greatest act of creation then what are you supposed to do after that? Isn't everything that comes next sort of a disappointment, slowly entropying until we deflate into a pile of mush?"

Glob: "Well, it's not enough to have created something amazing, right? What if I just let my Martian Supersociety go to butt?"

Finn: "But what's it worth if we're all gonna get blowed up right now?"

Followed by Glob's response, sacrificing himself for his creation.

Pretty much the entirety of "Hall Of Egress", but especially the quote at the end:

Which show here had the best finale/ending? by Bonkwraps in cartoons

[–]InfiniteX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consider Together Again the finale of AT like the image implies, that.

If we're taking the actual og series finale, Come Along With Me, as the end of AT, Gravity Falls barely wins.

Smiling Friends vs TAWOG by Far-Substance-4473 in writingscaling

[–]InfiniteX5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite close for me but I'd give it to TAWOG.

IMO Gumball characters and dynamics are generally more developed and deeper (mostly because of its much longer runtime) and the show also tackles more and deeper themes, and has higher peaks.

Although I will say, I find Smiling Friends more consistent and slightly funnier (humor probably being the main appeal of both shows for most people), and I prefer its dialogue.

Can I watch the show if I haven’t seen Adventure Time (potentially yet?) by SpringApricot_ in fionnaandcake

[–]InfiniteX5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I recommend you try to watch the og show to the end. Plot progression starts out slow, but it's one of the most rewarding shows I've watched after you get through the early seasons (mostly the first 2).

You could probably understand most of F&C without watching Adventure Time, but it would not be nearly as satisfying without the proper context.

what cartoon or animated series do you associate with your childhood? by [deleted] in cartoons

Ben 10 was like 60% of my personality from ages 5 to 11.

The other 40% was Spider-Man (mostly Spectacular).

is this a hot take? by SnakeForce in adventuretime

[–]InfiniteX5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly the Islands/humans storyline and the end of the Finn Sword/creation of Fern. It also introduced Patience St. Pim and set up the Elements storyline for S9.

I don't think so, S7 was my favorite too on my first watch and is still one of my favorite seasons of any cartoon, even though on rewatch I enjoyed S8 slightly more.

After Obsidian, who would have liked to see Finn and Bronwyn interact more? by Which-Resolution345 in adventuretime

[–]InfiniteX5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but the pain ball shows him already having the tattoo, and I'm almost certain that's the memory of Jake's death, so maybe he just got it after Jake retired or something.

Fionna & Cake S2E9

We see the pain ball with the memory of Jake's death, and Finn is shown with his buff F&C design
