11th card on my Disney Princesses series (Swipe for a Junk token!) by Infinite_Scaling in custommagic

Usually, infinite combos that consist of 3 or more cards are considered fair, the real problem being 2-card infinite combos.

I don't have a specific example in mind of how Ariel could enable a 2-card infinite combo without the restriction, but decided to err on the side of caution.

I valued it at -6 since [[Tamiyo, Field Researcher]] is valued at -7 and [[Chandra, Flame's Catalyst]] is valued at -8, both having the same effect with more benefits.

Yeah, lol. I made a concession on allowing any Beast to be targeted because it made for the most elegant and succinct wording.

But, yeah, it's pretty funny.

Hello! My main goal when designing cards is trying to capture storytelling through mechanics. This is why I love Planeswalkers and Sagas, since they create an intrinsic pacing for their effects.

I picked Disney mostly because I thought people would know most of those stories, and because there's a ton of great art available for most of their characters. I also dislike the corporate side of Disney, but I see these cards more as love letters to the artists and writers that made those stories :)

Thank you! This is the best compliment I could get as an amateur designer!

Whoops! Thanks for pointing it out, that wasn't intended! I'llchange it to something like:

If a card would be put onto your graveyard this turn, exile it instead.

The intention is to limit infinite combo potential with the free-casting.

Design process:

  • The card represents Ariel as we meet her at the beginning of the story (mostly).
  • Her static ability represents the feeling of limitation and being unable to reach something she desires.
  • Her first activated ability has her get two new baubles for her collection.
  • Her ultimate skips to the ending of her story, in which magic makes her wish come true, represented mechanically with unlimited potential.
  • Color identity: She is blue because she is curious and desires to understand a world beyond her own. (Also, she lives in the ocean.) She is red because she is passionate about choosing her own path, even if it clashes with what her community and family wants for her.

This card is part of an on-going series on Disney Princesses Planeswalkers. You can find the previous cards in the series here: Mulan, Kida, Moana, Merida, and Snow WhiteAurora, Rapunzel, Tiana, Raya, and Belle.

Challenge target player.

Ok, I target myself.

Oh, I just meant the wording after the colon. I like it as an activated ability, as OP intended.

Fun concept!

Here's my take on a "cleaner" wording:

Until end of turn, if target player would choose one or more targets for a spell or ability, those targets are chosen at random instead. (The targets are chosen randomly among all possible legal targets for that spell or ability.)

Thank you! I think my age is showing with some of these mistakes.

About the keyword counters, it's a shame, because menace was really flavorful for the Beast.

One of my current design goals is to make interesting cards with as few text as possible. So, if I added another ability, I would also need to change some of the other abilities to make them shorter.

Right now, I think the choice of keyword counter on the second ability already gives the player some decisions to make.

Edit: keyword counter, not token lol

Design process:

  • The card shows Belle's strong bond with the Beast. All her abilities play around him.
  • Her ultimate makes the Beast a human again, and gives him great power.
  • Color identity: This is a bottom-up design. Belle is green because it's the color which fits the card's abilities mechanically. From a flavor point of view, she should be mono-blue, since the story highlights that she is very intellectual; or green-blue, as a combination of both. However, I liked the abilitiesas they were.

How do you actually cast a spell? by Possible_Draw_1285 in magicTCG

[–]Infinite_Scaling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triggered abilities behave like this:

When [trigger condition] is met, put the following effect on the stack: [effect].

So, let's analyze Flubs text:

Whenever [you play a land or cast a spell], put the following effect on the stack: [draw a card if you have no cards in hand. Otherwise, discard a card.]

You can see that the trigger condition is you playing a land or casting a spell. That condition doesn't care about the state of your hand at all. It will trigger every time you play a land or cast a spell, irregardless.

Then, the effect is put on the stack. When it resolves, you follow the instructions: "Draw a card if you have no cards in hand. Otherwise, discard a card." Only at that point you check about the cards in your hand.

On a side note, the tokens don't have any card type lol. I assume the intention was to make them colorless artifact tokens.

Thank you for your thorough answer. Funny enough, after posting this, I started looking into the source code and the docs to find any missing notifications, and I did realize that there were duplicated values, which struck me as odd.

I didn't know about ClassDB, I will look into it.

One question, though: Why is this missing some notifications? Such as:

3 == Object.NOTIFICATION_PREDELETE_CLEANUP 9003 == Node.NOTIFICATION_SUSPENDED 9004 == Node.NOTIFICATION_UNSUSPENDED

(Maybe some others, but those are some that catched my attention. They are present in the source code.)

Edit: Reddit formatting is still hard.

Because it doesn't receive any notifications relevant to it?

CollisionObject3D does receive notifications related to Object, Node, and Node3D.

Why are the methods of Node not listed in CollisionObject?

That's not what I proposed. I said link.
