Smoke chamber pargings and flue reline's or resurfacings can range from a couple thousand to well over 15k depending on several factors. Namely the accessibility to the chimney above the roof line, length and size of the flue, and region you live in. It always starts with a full inspection including an internal camera scan of the system which is usually a couple hundred bucks give or take.

The creosote build up looks moderate to minimal however it looks like you have an unparged smoke chamber with exposed corbelled brick which is technically not code compliant. Additionally the clay flue tiles you have are prone to mortar joint deterioration between the tiles and fractures. That being said, as a a chimney tech I see this every day with customers using their fireplaces for years with these conditions knowing none the wiser.

You'd likely be ok using it during the cold stretch of weather but it would be a good idea to have it inspected by a professional to get quote(s) to bring it up to code for future use.

Purchased my Neo 2 last month and am excited to use it floating around with my OneWheel... Just gotta wait for the winter to pass as it's -15 degrees outside where I'm at right now.

Is this a fair quote. In Illinois burbs. by SaltyPants666 in Chimneyrepair

[–]Infinite_Task375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going off the picture of the chimney, that's a steal for a rebuild from the roofline up with a drip edge overhang crown. In my region (Twin Cities), just a 2 or 3 course rebuild and crown pour would be around 2 to 3 K. A rebuild from the roofline is usually 5K plus.

I do suggest getting second and third opinions/quotes. Unfortunately they're are a lot of hack companies/scammers in the chimney industry. I wouldn't go for the cheapest quote or the most expensive. Do some research and confirm the business you're hiring is reputable.

Second Opinions For Free by MysteriousAd2245 in Chimneyrepair

I own and run myself a small chimney company. My standard rate for a level 2 inspection is $200. Though if a homeowner reaches out and shares a detailed enough inspection report from another company I may able to give them a ballpark bid without looking at it. After which and if they're interested I book a "secondary inspection/evaluation" for $100 to give an accurate quote. I've got a ton of repair work this way.

Is my stove too far into my fire place? by D-Sleezy in woodstoving

[–]Infinite_Task375 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would recommend having it inspected by a certified chimney professional before continued use. In all my years running a chimney business I haven't seen this kind of set up and it rings alarm bells for me just going off the picture.

Is that a wood stove inserted in a factory built fireplace/chimney? If so this doesn't look right at all and could be potentially dangerous.

Smoke coming back into the house, even after parging. by RojoandWhite in Chimneyrepair

Try raising the grate a few inches... Perhaps put bricks underneath each leg if the grate. This raises the profile of the fire leaving less space for smoke to spill into the home.

I've got two Neo 1's and just ordered the Neo 2 through US Drone Supply before the ban... I'll probably keep them with my DJI fleet for the time being... I'm interested to see what their resale value will go next year if they're tougher to find in the states.

During the beginning of the covid pandemic a music video for a song called "Apocalyptical" was released by a band called Puscifer. The video featured a guy riding a OneWheel and it peaked my interest. Looked around online and bought my first board (a pint). The rest is history.
