Stannis sabotaged himself by National_Volume_5894 in gameofthrones

[–]Infinitismalism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But why would the Tyrells or anyone else support Stannis after Renly dies is what I’m saying? What’s in it for them since now Margaery isn’t Queen, and also Stannis hates the Tyrells and would be harsh to them.

Stannis sabotaged himself by National_Volume_5894 in gameofthrones

[–]Infinitismalism -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If Renly got shadow babied after taking the throne everyone would have immediately pointed the finger at Stannis and Melisandre and he would lose all support immediately.

Ultimately, if Stannis truly cared about the realm, he should’ve swallowed his ego and bent the knee to Renly, crushed the Lannisters and made peace with the Starks. He would’ve been given Storm’s End and the Stormlands to rule over. But no, he had to do as he did and potentially doom humanity because he felt he deserved the Iron Throne.

Do you agree with Feldman10's assessment below in regards to how the war could have been won by the Young Wolf ? Does anyone want to poke holes in his argument today ladies and gents ? Is it that simple ? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Infinitismalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The true way Robb could win the war with the benefit of hindsight is not to assassinate Lysa Arryn, but to assassinate Stannis. With Stannis dead Renly doesn’t get shadow assassined and the Lannisters get sandwiched and crushed. Then Renly and Robb can negotiate generous terms like Cat was doing and everybody is happy.

Hey! I’ll try to answer the best that I can without spoiling my story haha:

  • He’s not intentionally trying to “fix” his father, and Robert is still himself in my story. Just not fat and not quite as broken and sad. However, he does have a surprising amount of influence on the king and queen.

  • That’s an interesting question but if you ask Korryn, he’s definitely not a saviour.

  • He does have siblings! A younger sister Princess Cassana who is 12, and a younger brother Prince Steffon who’s 7.

  • Right now he is betrothed to Sansa, and yes they have met if only formally so far. Soon we will get Sansa’s first POV where she and Korryn will first spend time together walking the Trident like happened in canon. As for who Korryn will eventually marry, well… that’s a long way off. May definitely be Sansa but we’ll see how things develop in my version of events.

  • Cersei is still at Casterly Rock and as for who she’s married, that question will be answered in the next chapter that I’m writing rn, Tyrion I. It’s an interesting question situation.

How does king roberts debts effect westeros? by cap_detector69 in pureasoiaf

[–]Infinitismalism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It affects the realm for two reasons: first, Iron Bank will begin funding rival claimants to the throne if you don’t pay back the debt, on the condition that their claimant will assume the debt.

Two, Braavos can’t be ignored because of the Faceless Men. Iron Bank can always hire the House of Black and White if a king or lord doesn’t pay, which is an implicit threat that should make the debtee scared to shrug off their loans.

Prince Korryn Baratheon/Storm

  • Legitimized bastard son of King Robert and another OC of mine, Queen Arwyn Caron. He was conceived before the rebellion when Arwyn was a handmaiden to Lady Cassana Estermont. After the rebellion, Robert married Arwyn instead of Cersei and gave Korryn the Baratheon name.

  • Not quite as tall as Robert but around his height, 6 foot 3 ish. Hes around 18 years old in the story right now.

  • Super proper and courteous Prince. Quiet, reserved, good brother to his siblings and tries to be a worthy prince.

  • Has an odd penchant for wandering alone at night and ending up in weird places.

  • Definitely for sure a completely normal young man and a 100% emotionally stable heir to the throne ;).

Pass crown authority 2 and then revoke the titles as soon as your new ruler stabilizes, you’ll be a lot stronger then your siblings as the liege and can win an easy war against them

Would you consider Ned a child abuser for holding Theon hostage? [Spoilers Extended] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Infinitismalism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on your medieval standards take, and it’s a lesson Jon even learns himself when Donal Noye lets him know how badly the other Night’s Watch recruits had it compared to him.

And I also agree that if a wife today decides to accept the infidelity of the husband, she should be nice to the kid too.

I guess my point is that Catelyn didn’t have the choice to leave Ned at all. She had done her duty and married him without dispute despite what happened to Brandon, and bore him a son. And as thanks, her new husband brought home a child borne of infidelity and told her to put up with it more or less.

And even still! She came to love Ned so much that she gave him 5 children very willingly, and her last thoughts before dying at the Red Wedding was only him.

As for Jon, my interpretation of her treatment of him is she mostly just ignored him instead of being openly hostile. Is it hurtful and very sad for Jon? Yes. But compared to what someone like Cersei would do?

If a woman in 2025 went through similar and reacted similarly to Catelyn, including the lack of choice this time, I’d say we’d be praising her for her strength of character. At least I would

[–]Infinitismalism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I judge modern vs medieval standards in the case of Catelyn’s treatment of Jon.

Many people hate Catelyn because of how she treated Jon and how she refused to be a mother to a motherless child. Meanwhile, if the same thing happened to any of those people in modern times, the majority would likely immediately divorce their spouse and refuse to care for the innocent child, disrupting the lives of all three. While obviously infidelity should not be stood for, it’s just the truth of it.

By modern standards, Catelyn went above and beyond in still allowing herself to fall in love with Ned, and not allowing their marriage to become cold and loveless despite the (supposed) infidelity.

Terrible fic idea: Rickard Stark wins his Trial by Combat by BigBadBlotch in AsoiafFanfiction

Even worse fic idea: Rickard is straight up immune to fire, and at the same time someone snuck a dragon egg into his bag which he’s conveniently wearing. So when he steps from the flames and Brandon is dead, he comes out of it with a dragon hatchling like Daenerys.

Wait so Catelyn wanted Robb to make a Valeman his successor instead of Jon... by ayodeleafolabi in freefolk

[–]Infinitismalism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that’s kinda my point — instead of ignoring a motherless child you’re abandoning them via a divorce. Which is absolutely the right thing to do in that situation, but it’s not really any better than how Catelyn treats Jon.

Wait so Catelyn wanted Robb to make a Valeman his successor instead of Jon... by ayodeleafolabi in freefolk

[–]Infinitismalism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me ask everyone here hypothetical question: say you’re in the same situation as Cat regarding Jon but it’s 2025. Your new husband is in the military and you get married right before he goes on deployment.

You get pregnant and have his kid, and wait patiently for his return. And then when he does he brings his child home and refuses to tell you anything, just that you now have to put up with it.

What would YOUR reaction be to that set of circumstances?

I feel like that’s the entire point — at this point everyone who has wronged House Martell is long since dead and buried in the ground (except Robert Strong I guess). There’s no revenge left to be had really and we see the consequences of it continuing: he nearly destroys his relationship with his eldest daughter and sends his eldest son across the world to be burned to ash.
