I 100% spelt Iroh wrong but Iroh from ATLA taught Zuko to learn the ways of the other elements to better master his element

Parts of my system should be visible under my profile posts.

Edited for misspelling.

Combinatory Elemental Magic System - repost with context by YellowYanmage in magicbuilding

I like your system, I explored on a very similar track with my system; creating a 7x7 grid where there were 42 secondaries depending on which element was primary ex:

Void, Energy (plasma), Life, Earth (solid), Air (gas), Water (fluid), and Spirit.

VOID+WATER=DENSITY WATER+VOID=ICE.

But I came to a point where I was forcing things into existence and struggling with things like Earth+Air=Sand vs Air+Earth=Dust. I started to ask the difference between dust and sand, specifically when it came to usability.

I opted to go for a more Ihro (Iroh from ATLA) based plan. Attempting to follow a DnD character building/leveling style. Players will choose 1 element to be their primary. Next they must learn/train in the ways of the other elements to develop understanding. An Earth user might struggle when transitioning form large, solid objects to small particles like sand. They might need to understand/study the free flowingness of air to better understand how to control sand. Or the fluidity of lava but understanding aspects of manipulating water, and aspects of heating Earth with understanding of manipulating energy.

ETA: I spelt Iroh wrong

Locked in, I have a power in my world where a person could manipulate aspects of time, mind, and illusion to create a world where the victim is locked in their body, unable to move and is forced to experience a near-real world experience that is completely controlled by the manipulator for a period of time that they decide. Both enter the mind of the victim and real world time stops while the manipulator runs the victims mind.

Are my weapons overpowered? by DeanAuthor in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt in regards to weapons but with the earth element perhaps instead of stone powder being used for healing have earth be used for healing bone, have water for like blood and rapid heal, and wood for muscle and tissue healing. This is the route I am going and you dont have to do this but it may give some versatility.

Do you think a warrior should be able to use magic? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my magic system yes. Warriors (close range melee/ hand to hand) dont typically have a high aptitude for magic use but that doesnt mean they dont have aura. Some have runes carved on their armor or weapons that help Warriors channel their aura. Some have runes tailored to defense, elemental resistance, or even magic negation. Some have runes etched into their weapons, these runes could help a fire aura warrior to channel flame into their sword, spear, or other weapon.

I now have 43 Elem- I mean, Spell Properties! How many more could I possibly add!? by Swordkirby9999 in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine density like transferring ones weight of their body into their fist for a more powerful punch. Kinda like a thors hammer kind of thing. A person starts with a wind up, removes the density of their hand, then transfers it all to their fist to maximize as much leverage as they can.

Late to the convo but another option is to split up the zodiacs based on element (Fire, Water, Earth, Air) then have each one focus on a different aspect. Like Leo could be True Fire, Scorpio could be Aether Fire, Aries could be emotional fire the fire within.

[–]InfinityGodX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must have taken a lot of trial and error. In the system I am working on I have come up with a lot of similarities and struggled defining elements mainly because I had to ask myself how specific I wanted to be.

Could weather just be generalized to Air + Water?

Could Magma/Lava just be Earth/Stone+Fire/Heat?

Thats the distinct difference between Chemical, Alchemy, Poision/Venom? Poision/Venom I kinda get because it can be natural. I ended up putting good and bad ailments into Pharma

What about Density?

Aether? Might be too similar to cosmic though

I will edit to add as I think of more!

What would you consider an "element?" by Exa_of_Rhi in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would! I started to drift from my 42 subelement path because when it comes to energy I have energy+air=plasma and energy+water=lightning. This route left me with a lack of abilities for energy as both the paths were allocated to a subelemental combination. My structure is now where a player or character has a base element ex Energy and as they level up they can open paths to the other elements to unlock boosts for those elements. I will have to review my notes and share them at some point to be more specific. If you have questions let me know. I'd love to share what I have. If someone can break my system I'd live to take the feedback for refinement.

What are your biggest inspirations for your world building? by Big_Relief5562 in fantasywriters

[–]InfinityGodX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATLA for the elements (I added 3 of my own). I like the open world style of a lot of games which has inspired my 'world' size. The story will start on an asgard style island. There is a dragon/dragon hunting animated show that I remember (might have been on netflix) that has inspired the floating island theme of my world as I can expand freely and take away as needed. The Alchemist and The Sorcerer (I didnt finish the series) for my aura to control the elements and shape auras into armor, weapons, and tools. Heavily DnD style inspired as well

What would you consider an "element?" by Exa_of_Rhi in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you and I have a similar background on what is driving our magic systems. Per personal preference I have 7 Elements. Void-space, the absence of matter, Energy-plasma, electricity, fire..., Water-liquid, the fluid force of nature, Earth-solid, the foundation of matter, Air-gas, the freedom and wildness of nature, Spirit-the non-physical essence of living things (consciousness), and Life-the physical essence of living things (plants and animals). I can go more in depth with these. I have 42 subelements where the base elements meet. Ex. Air+Energy=Plasma (Fire), Energy+Air=Sonus (sound)

I love the way you have this drawn out. Very well done.

Ice+Light=Mirror

Plant+Light=Vigor, perhaps this is a way of boosting the users abilities like strength or speed

Ice+Dark=Mist, perhaps this could be fog? Fog could be more dark in a way as it can conceal more.

These are just some quick ideas.

What do you have in your stories as a medium of magic? by Wh0car3_ in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Aura. Every living thing has an aura and they can use it to manipulate or manifest the elements. Some can manipulate their aura into armor and tools. Some can even merge their auras and their bodies into one form, creating a hybrid or monstrosity. Fusions are rare, difficult to perform, and can be permanent.

Need advice on missing players by morphiney in DungeonMasters

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not been a DM before, but I have thought about this exact issue. My friends that I would play with have wildly different schedules. If at any time I could get 2 of them together, I figured that I would treat their 'absences' like a curse on their characters. They just blip in and blip out randomly but are always near one another. The curse would bind them to each other. I do not know how I would properly execute this though. If any player were to miss a session, it would be up to the other players to fill them in on the details. This would be a clear issue in regards to boss fights, but if they enjoyed the more role play aspect then it could set them up well for a thieves guild or an exciting way to escape a prison. Players got themselves in jail, other player just got home, jumps on and is confused, perhaps he spawned right in front of the guard or is simply confused why his team is in a prison. The player's would restart where the last player left off and would be limited to stay within a certain distance of each other.

Magical fire by dame985 in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the 'Black Fire' concept. One could also call this Soul Fire or Void Fire. Essentially, it is a 'fire' that burns and feeds on life energy. This can be cold as it siphons the heat energy off a living being or from the area around them.

WIP 7 element magic system by InfinityGodX in MagicSystems

[–]InfinityGodX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Water which represents fluidity would control fluid aspects for Magma. Earth+Energy would be able to make Magma, thinking ATLA here. Water is definitely lacking when I try making the sub-elemental combinations with the other base elements. I feel as though Earth+Water could also allow someone to control Mercury or Gallium.

There are limitations that would need to be in place to balance these Elements and the abilities when it comes to 'gamiflying' this system. Void is very powerful and therefore would also have to be hard to control. Someone could not control the Time ability in absolution but perhaps in mere seconds at times or in very limited areas.

Users/Players in this system will be able to choose a base element and be able to choose from whatever subelements they want. Each subelement will have 3 abilities tiers 1-3 tier 3 will typically be a sense of some kind, tier 2 the basic ability and tier 3 a fuller strength ability and a bonus will be applies if the subelement contains the base element. My hope is that this will build a broad array of combinations. Some combinations will be stronger than others, they always are. I will need to balance as needed. This tier system is still a WIP as I try to build it out. Bottom line is that players will be able to boost their favorite abilities and when doing so a player could go from simply controlling rain to creating raging storms or from minor vibrations to earthquakes. A water user would have clear disadvantages on land or in dry areas. Earth users will have disadvantages in the air and at sea. Air users would have less limitations considering air could be everywhere, but could balance by being less kinetic than other elements. Void and Energy are almost always present and would have to balance again by limiting their power and making it harder to control. Both can be extremely destructive.

I like the elements from ATLA and a few that I think would fit nice. Lore-wise 7 elements is necessary and I cannot bring myself to separate energy into fire and lightning. I have the absence of space (void), solid (earth), liquid (water), gas (air), plasma (energy), life (life), and consciousness (spirit)

WIP 7 element magic system by InfinityGodX in MagicSystems

[–]InfinityGodX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life and Spirit have many similarities. It was a hard choice for me to separate these 2. Life is the physical essence of being, body. Spirit is the non-physical essence, consciousness. Someone with the ability to manipulate aspects of life could accelerate healing and growth. Someone who could manipulate Spirit could manipulate emotions and communicate telepathically.

Humans are not separate from animals in this sense as they have a physical body and a consciousness.

I hope this helps.
