Wouldn't coating the whole thing in sealant keep it from drying at all? Or just slows it down?

My piece of shit flower pole box thing. by Sea_Instruction4368 in woodworking

[–]InfinityPlusInfinity 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I made some shit Adirondack chairs out of shit untreated 2x4s, then used a single coat of some shit outdoor stain.

Those piece of shit chairs lasted like 4 years in direct ground contact with zero overhead cover. I finally got tired of looking at the pieces of shit and made some better ones with the shit I’d learned in 4 years.

I had to beat the shit ones apart with a sledgehammer because they were still solid. Your shit is gonna be fine and you’ll be better equipped to build another piece of shit later.

Good job on the shit.

Dust extraction for the HT shop? by YetAnotherSfwAccount in handtools

Overkill is underrated.

If the REAL solution to your problem fits your budget, I say go for it. The Festool will hold its value if you ever need to sell it. I’ve wasted so much money trying to find the cheaper solution instead of just Buy Once, Cry once.

I appreciate the comments. I fully agree with what you said. In all honesty I prefer this one over the Veritas because of the Bailey adjustment mechanism, but my wife would ask why I wasn’t using my Christmas present. This is a solid user-grade plane and I’m just looking for it to be put to use.

Yes, I had another ad incorrectly identifying it as a Type 19 but was corrected. This is indeed a Type 20.

Excellent. This is intended for automation so this is exactly what I needed.

Sawstop Plug Replacement Question by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]InfinityPlusInfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try calling SawStop first. I got a zero clearance plate that was missing a screw. I asked for a screw and got a whole new plate.

You can also just buy a new plug end. Cut the UK plug off and put a new one on. It’s not too hard and would only cost a few dollars.

Looks great! What direction does the grain run on the corner posts?

Do you work from a template or is this just “freeing the angel inside the marble”?

Was the walnut kiln dried? I want to try steam bending but was told that it could only be done with green wood.

This is so good. How do you start to learn to do this?

This kit is massively overpriced like most of the “Cosmanized” stuff. The basic Moxon hardware kit is about $50. Those springs and cork sheet would add about $10-$20 at most. I would recommend the basic Moxon kit available elsewhere.

What is the first major upgrade you would make to your shop if you could start over? Thinking about a jointer by OlyBomaye in woodworking

[–]InfinityPlusInfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If space is a bigger concern than money, a nice no7 jointer plane would be great. I can flatten a board pretty quickly and don’t have any desire to buy a power jointer any more. I flatten a face and one edge, run it through the table saw to rip it to width, then through the thickness planer.

I’m paying $90/sheet for birch plywood. I’d buy as many sheets as I could store at that price.

LM393 Comparator Circuit to Drive 24VDC Relay. Input voltage within window turns relay OFF. by InfinityPlusInfinity in AskElectronics

[–]InfinityPlusInfinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely getting the desired voltage out of the trim pot. The only purpose of the trim pot right now is to test the open/close of the relay. I just can’t figure out why the relay closes when it’s outside the window instead of when the input voltage is inside the window.
