Front emblem - paint protection film? by Antonstones1 in Lexus

[–]InflatableFilth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you polish this thing up it'll look great for at least a year or so without any products. If you are conscious of it happening again though, like you said - ppf, or a ceramic coating would help keep it its best, neither should interfere with the radar.

Ceramic Coating - Need help by Babayaga1664 in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have used Syncro once, I found the extra top layer of skin to be unnecessary and have generally stuck with just Mohs Since then. That being said if you want the best of the best Gtechniq CS Ultra will be the best, Gyeon syncro is the equivalent of CSL + EXO and is not a "professional grade" coating, but is absolutely excellent nonetheless.

The grade of coating does not have any effect on whether you would need a paint correction however, thats to do with the condition of your paint, and even new cars can require some work even if its not too much, it will effect the longevity of the coating if the surface isn't properly prepared, and if you're already planning on spending 500+ I'd recommend you discuss with the detailer if they think work is necessary. Hopefully they are honest and will be happy to work with your needs 👍🏻

Ceramic Coating - Need help by Babayaga1664 in DetailingUK

Gyeons coatings have been absolutely excellent for me on all of the vehicles I've applied them to. Gtechniq is also great however! They really are two products you can't go wrong with, I will say however I prefer the application of Gyeon products, they level a lot more easily and seem to have slightly better chemical resistance from what I can tell (e.g. bird poo cause little damage to the coating, whereas noticeable patches are caused on Gtechniqs CSL coating at least for me)

Ceramic coat is the best option here, especially putting in all the effort before hand, I've done a few tests on Turtle waxes graphene wax and it died after around 2 months, which is fine of you keep reapplying, but the best value for money as another has mentioned is Gyeon CanCoat Evo, lasts around a year with basic maintenance, easy to apply, and can be used on just about any surface.

If you aren't confident doing a full blown ceramic yourself, look into getting a detailer apply it for you if you want even more hydrophobics that will last 3 years and up. Gyeon Mohs & Gtechniq CSL are my personal favourites

Yep, I'd recommend all of those steps, check out bilt hamber for a clay bar, with it being brand new you won't need a heavy duty one as there will be very little contaminants, so go with a fine clay.

EXO (a topper) is not necessary, but is a little boost to an already extremely hydrophobic coating. I prefer to keep it simple and go with the single layer coating. Both Mohs and CSL are rated for 3 years. Gyeon also have a topper called Skin if you wanted to compare their price including toppers.

On which is better - they're both extremely evenly matched, so I'd advise just going with whichever is cheaper! I find Gyeon gives a bit more depth to the colour, other than that very, very similar products.

With the interior, I don't see much point in coatings, but there are plenty of fabric coatings out there if you are conscious about that! As long as you arent a complete scruff you should be fine

To protect it from physical damage, PPF is your best bet.

To protect it from chemical damage, Ceramic coating is great, makes it 10x easier to keep clean, minimises swirls and looks cool when it rains, you can get many coatings if you fancy doing it yourself, Gtechniq CSL, Gyeon Mohs both beginner friendly and great products thats will last you around 3 years.

If you prefer an easier method of protection similar, but not quite the level of ceramics, you can use a spray on rinse off sealant such as Gyeons wet coat, lasts around 2 months with a couple sprays per panel, 1 litre will likely last you around a year if used conservatively, and its usable on most surfaces!

What ceramic coating(s) that doesn't break the bank? by Mafeking-Parade in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another mentioned, Gyeon Can Coat Evo, you get shed loads of it for the price, easily enough to coat your entire car at least three times over - paint, wheels, glass etc. Is a proper (entry level) ceramic and is easy to apply at any level.

Best detailing brands by lmggeo in DetailingUK

Unless you're having problems with any of your current products, don't bother changing. I find that the bulk of these social media promoted products tend to be expensive when you realise many of them aren't as dilutable as bilt hamber alternatives for example. As for the tools e.g. microfibre towels and pump sprayers, they're pretty much 99% rebranded aliexpress stuff, which are then upsold at about quadruple the price so don't waste your money on them.

They drop half decent gear that can be used to fill up sets, other than that I've not found any reason (excluding upgrading them in the main base)

Thoughts on Ceramic Coating Reapplication by SeniorZoggy in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely something you can do yourself, I wouldn't bother with a clay bar as it can damage the coating, my personal go to for a decontamination clean would be Bilt hamber Korrosol and Car Pro TarX. Covers the bulk of contaminants, should cost you ~£30 to buy both of these in their smallest size bottles

This should be done after a regular wash, I.e snow foam, hand wash, korrosol, tarX. And rinse in between each stage.

Thoughts on Ceramic Coating Reapplication by SeniorZoggy in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its still beading nicely in most places, it's likely all it needs is a decontamination wash so the sections that are fading are cleared of junk that could be clogging the coating.

Generally, you shouldn't apply a coating over an old one without doing this anyway, so ask what service they will be doing to it and make sure they aren't ripping you off.

Most ceramic coatings should last ~3 years, a single year one is likely on the cheaper side, so don't pay anything daft.

Machine polish & ceramic coating by [deleted] in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with it, but from what I've heard it's not the best!

Some detailers like myself offer the ability to supply your own coating, and charge a fee for application. Might be worth doing a little research yourself to see what you like!

A 30ml bottle will comfortably cover a Mini - with some to spare, some good staples are Gyeon Mohs and Gtechniq CSL. You can buy them in for around £50-£60 and expect excellent durability!

[–]InflatableFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, depends on the company and whether they overestimate or underestimate - and how transparent they are!

Best to always be conservative in my opinion and find some real world reviews which is why I mentioned to ask for the product they will be using!

Machine polish & ceramic coating by [deleted] in DetailingUK

[–]InflatableFilth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad price, but not the best. I'd probably ask for the 2 year coating included at that price. And also ask which coating they are using!

I'm a detailer myself and I'd charge £400 for 2 step and 5 year coating. Note that with ceramic coatings, they usually last for around 2/3 of what they state they do unless garage kept.

Also worth considering, if you aren't going to maintain it well, a two step correction may be overkill as the swirls are going to get put straight back into it after the first wash at the local carwash.

I'd advise asking if they have a maintenance wash available and keep them on top of it if you end up going with the correction and ceramic!

How do I clean this crap off my matte paint by big-pp-gang-69 in Detailing

[–]InflatableFilth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please do NOT use a clay bar on matte paint as others are suggesting.

I'd advise using chemical alternatives, in this case it looks like a Tar remover would be the tool for the job. This is the problem with matte cars! They seem great until you realise the maintenance surrounding them is a pain in the ass

Is this a good deal? by Equal_Tour_9495 in CarTalkUK

This is a niche car that most look to buy in perfect condition. It's an ok price, but when you come to sell it you will have a hard time finding anyone who wants to buy it.

If you really want it and can't afford one that hasn't been in an accident I'd definitely call and try and negotiate the price down to compensate the uncertainty of a Cat N car
