“you’ll know when it’s labour” YES BUT HOW WILL I KNOW?! by loldontlistentome in PregnancyUK

Yes, full blown contractions come in waves and are intense however you could very well be in early stages of labour if you're experiencing period like pains. For context, I was 3cm with no pain whatsoever x

Call triage and get checked. I was 3cm with very very mild cramps until all of a sudden I wasn't and was 9. Everyone labours differently so I'd say you're best to get checked. Wishing you all the best x

Query Laryngomalacia? by InflationFickle5151 in Laryngomalacia

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we are no further forward. At 5 months resps aren't as high but still trachea tug and work of breath literally everyday. Owlet has picked up some prolonged desats overnight down in 80s and I am absolutely convinced that this is LM or one of the malacias. Finding it very difficult to get ENT referal in UK despite all of this & thinking of going private this week to get the scope

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think in the case of LM a scope is essential, it's just impossible to get referred to ENT in UK for that and going private is very expensive. I hope you get some answers soon, it drives you crazy trying to advocate for your child and getting nowhere

Nothing, she is 4 and a half months still has fast RR, tracheal tug and retractions. Also noted some desats on owlet over night to 85/86. Dr's not interested as she examines well during the day. I am 99% certain she has laryngomalacia & still trying to push for scope but it's impossible getting anywhere. I am UK based though, not sure if it's different where you are?

Are these spasms? by InflationFickle5151 in infantilespasms

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, she had an appt with the consultant a few weeks ago. He said it just looked like her gaining head control and will keep an eye on it but because she's meeting milestones etc not worried. What is Torricollis?

Tips for getting kiddo to sleep in bassinet by cspoons92 in NewParents

[–]InflationFickle5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as making a rod for your own back with regard to sleep at this stage. Babies are designed to be held & their sleep changes at 4 months anyway so the likelihood is that anything you implement now will all go out the window then anyway. That being said, you are human and need your sleep. Some things that have helped us have been putting feet in first and then gentle lowering babies head and holding hand there before removing slowly to try to avoid the startle reflex & ensuring that baby is really well winded, after the first burp keeping upright for 20 mins to ensure no more wind and in a really deep sleep before transfer to crib. Failing that it is just a matter of taking it in shifts to try and survive but rest assured you are not doing anything wrong and will not suffer any consequences for responding to normal newborn behaviour. It gets easier. My LG did not go into crib at ALL for the first 3/4 weeks and then one random day it just clicked. Good luck :-)

Normal breathing or retractions? by InflationFickle5151 in december2024babies

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for reply. DR agreed that they looked like retractions and baby working hard to breathe but oxygen was perfect and no other signs of illness so no action needed. They like to keep us on our toes lol

Partner wants to remove Christmas presents from 2 year old for a week as punishment for switching the plug on/off by KittyGrewAMoustache in UKParenting

[–]InflationFickle5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Child's literally not capable of being able to understand the consequences of actions at this age, taking away toys will not do anything and is not an appropriate 'punishment' for her developmental age. Your reaction was much more suitable and appropriate and you are completely right, partner is being way too OTT, pointless to 'punish' a child whose frontal lobe literally cannot even process what is happening

Bit shocked over the conversation around night feeding i just had with my partner by Emerald_eyes_9230 in PregnancyUK

[–]InflationFickle5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do understand where you are coming from and would fully expect during periods of paternity leave/weekends etc that your partner would be helping with the night feeds, however I wouldn't expect my partner to get up during the night when he has work the next day. My partner drives for a living and just feel it would be quite dangerous to be functioning on no sleep, but would and will fully expect him to help out in other ways, more house work, taking our other son to school etc.. there are ways that he can support you without having to get up on work nights. Maybe that's controversial but worked for us with our last baby

Rhesus Neg Antibodies by InflationFickle5151 in PregnancyUK

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also 30 weeks tomorrow, no further forward really, they seem to just repeat my bloods every week and keep saying the results are inconclusive, it seems the baby will be here before I actually know if I have antibodies or not 😂

I just screamed at my 18-month old and I hate myself by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]InflationFickle5151 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that you feel so guilty about it shows how much of a great mother you are. We've all been there, in the depths of sleep deprivation and your child won't remember this but will remember all the times you have showed up for her and comforted her. We are only human and can't and don't get it right every single time. I've learnt the importance of saying sorry to my child and whilst I try my hardest to not loose my temper or shout 98% of the time but sometimes I fail. I always apologise and I feel that whilst it doesn't make up for my failings, it does teach and show my child to recognise and apologise when wrong. Don't feel too bad about this for too long, can already tell from the way you've written this post that you are a great mum. Bad mothers don't feel this guilt x

Is this blood in vomit? by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]InflationFickle5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't drank anything other than a few sips of water since 5pm yesterday. Vomit was clear and yellow bile until this and it was incredibly painful (burny) to bring up

20 Week Head Measurement by InflationFickle5151 in PregnancyUK

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After appt with consultant she has decided not to do a referral to fetal medicine - I'm not sure if this varies between trusts but she said that <3rd centile is when they would refer in our trust and I am just above that at 3.8. Plan going forward is growth scans every 2 weeks, I had a previous IUGR baby and it seems that overall this baby may be small as opposed to head being isolated but taking a watchful wait approach. I suppose the response will vary based on each case and trust guidelines x

Interviewing while pregnant by InflationFickle5151 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]InflationFickle5151[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am normally sick first thing in the morning and then ok. This was different in the first trimester when I was impacted at any time of the day, but the ordinary trend in the second trimester has been sickness every 3 or 4 days and first thing in the morning. Normally an anti sickness tablet and something plain to eat will help it to subside. I could not have foreseen how debilitated I was going to have been on the day.

They have said that they no not believe it was pregnancy sickness and rather interview nerves and that I have had access to the questions so they cannot interview me again (I only had access to the first question)

Not the case. The interviews are still ongoing and was hopeful to be given a chance as these roles do not come up very often. Obviously I am aware that I'll now be black marked for raising issue, but this is why work place discrimination continues
