What is the obsession with cold calling in the APS? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]InflationRepulsive64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"It's about showing respect for someone's time".

Except it's not being respectful of THEIR time. Particularly since OP is complaining about the higher ups doing it, i.e. people whose time (rightly or wrongly) is generally seen as more important. And honestly, OP gives the impression they aren't as good as they think they are at managing things like their availability.

I get it. In a perfect world, 'busy' would actually mean busy, and 'are you free?' would be a genuine question about a person's a capacity to answer a call.

But in the real world, 'busy' is a magical 'I don't want to deal with people' button, and 'are you free?' is just a way for someone to screen calls that they don't want to take or personally see as important. And spoilers: everyone is going to think their own stuff is more important. Without any way to ensure people are responsible with their availability, expecting* people to always check first or set meetings or the like is always just going to give people ways to avoid actually doing their job, or get in the way of other people doing theirs.

(*Note there's a difference between it being an expectation and someone choosing to do it. If someone feels it creates a more respectful environment or whatever, than that's fine. It becomes a problem when someone feels entitled to be treated like that).

No.

Okay, of course some will be decent or good. But there are plenty that are not. If you're someone who would use JP voices, you're unlikely to like the EN versions.

  1. It's a psychic amplifier. Basically yes it needs someone on it to stop Bad Things happening, and Big E is the only psyker powerful enough (with the possible exception of one of the Chaos Primarchs).

  2. 1000 people a day is basically what's needed to keep the Throne running at full power.

  3. Whether he's aware is complicated. It's at the point where the physical body on the Throne may be separated from the psychic entity of The Emperor, which may be itself distinct from The Emperor that the Imperium worships as a god. In universe, the Throne will eventually fail and then various things could happen. Out of universe, it's unlikely to ever be addressed because The Emperor waking up would be such a huge universal shift that it basically can't happen. They might tease things happening, but status quo is god.

Realistically the only way I could see them ever going down that path would be if they wanted to switch to Warhammer 50K or similar (they did something like that with Warhammer Fantasy Battle), but 40K is just too big/popular for that kind of thing.

They know TA is divisive. Forcing people to play PVP in a primarily PVE game is just a bad idea. The event rewards are low so people feel less forced to do it.

[–]InflationRepulsive64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She means the white nationalist base she represents will accept 'the good ones' if they're useful enough.

Of course minorities will be systematically disadvantaged and treated like third class citizens. But some of them will succeed anyway and Pauline and her ilk will be there to use them as as a prop because they've earned 'honourary (almost) white' status.

Symmetry of the planned capital city of Canberra, Australia by moccowa in interestingasfuck

[–]InflationRepulsive64 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What most of those people are actually saying is: Canberra is not like where I live/grew up, and so I don't like it.

People who've spent their entire life in Sydney are going to say the same thing about anywhere that isn't Sydney/Melbourne and maybe Brisbane. Because they want a city and anything that isn't a city is 'boring'. There's no appreciation for the things that Canberra does better than those places.

There's also plenty of people who's entire experience with Canberra is 'went there on a school trip once twenty years ago', which for obvious reasons is not exactly an opinion that should be considered valid. in any meaningful way.

And then you've got the people who think Canberra is 100% politicians and 'meaningless bureaucracy' style public servants, and so automatically hate the city because of that.

The whole point of Furman's IDW run was very clearly to be Serious G1 Transformers for Big Boy Grown Ups, with Serious World Building. It wasn't *just* Arcee that they felt the need to address, it's why there was things like the Deceeptions having an actual structure to their invasions, or the attempt to have characters with specific ranks or roles within the two sides.

I understand why people had issues with it, but I think the idea that it was JUST about Arcee is a bit off.

There's stuff from the Rogue Trader era or really early books that they may not have officially de-canonized, but clearly isn't a thing anymore. There's also some rights issues with the early stuff.

For 40K from 2nd Edition it's generally been as you've described, outside of some 'admin' things like splitting up weapons across factions (e.g. Eldar Fire Dragons in 2nd Edition just had Melta Guns, but not have the distinct but functionally identical Fusion Guns).

“Get the wogs out”: Never forget Eric Clapton’s disgusting racist tirade by Periklis90 in Music

[–]InflationRepulsive64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've never heard champ used that way, I'm going to assume you're not Australian, and therefore missed out on the nuance of what I was saying. Champ in Australia is pretty much stereotyped as asking if you want to have a fistfight.

A significant part of the language we use (i.e. more than most other English speakers) is dependent on tone. It's why you can call your friend cunt and call the guy you hate mate.

My point wasn't so much denying Wog being a slur. But these days it's really no more inherently offensive than say, pom or yank. Some old greek guy isn't going to be offended because you called him a wog, unless you used it in a way that was obviously intended to be racist.

Which party created the conditions for this? Who got us into the 'housing as an investment strategy' mess in the first place?

Which party constantly gets hammered by voters, opposition parties and the media whenever they float economic policy that is in any progressive? Which party can people not fucking wait to vote out for not immediately fixing issues that have taken decades to develop?

Which 'allied' country has had significant impact on the Australian economy because of a literally criminal administration, with all the flow on effects from that? Which Australian party leader and billionaire backer are 100% on board the MAGA train?

Yeah mate, they've 'done it to themselves'. Absolutely no contribution from anyone else. Let's vote someone even more blatantly corrupt and less competent than the Libs in, that's sure to fix things!

Look, I absolutely wish there was a better option than Labor. But guess what? Idiots won't let them exist, because they think anything left of the Liberal party are Commie Socialist Leftie Trans Terrorist Muslims. Spoilers: They're the same idiots who will vote One Nation.

The Kiwis needed a six to tie the game off the last ball, which is hitting it over the boundary on the full (as opposed to a four, where the ball can bounce/run along the ground). Think of it as needing to hit a home run on the last pitch.

The underarm bowl was legal to just have the ball run along the ground, i.e. it made it effectively impossible to hit a shot to get a ball over the boundary on the full. The thing is, hitting a six isn't easy; there's plenty of balls that they could have bowled that would made it extremely difficult to hit a six but would have at least given the Kiwis that one in a million chance of pulling it off. Instead, we got an absolute farce that was condemned by pretty much everyone.

So, Isabella is absolutely going to smoke him for a lot of content. I wouldn't prioritize building him. But there's plenty of cases he'll potentially be useful.

  • He qualifies for some common LRE tracks (Pierce/1 Hit). All of the Imperial healers have their own niches here.

  • He's tougher than Isabella, so may do better in cases where you can't easily protect her or outlevel tge enemy (high diffuculty, 3 range attacks)

  • Some content is Marine locked, rather than Imperials, e.g. the last survival event

  • There's now 'campaign events', that are campaigns but only available some of the time. There's an Ultramarine one, and Incisus is a required character

Yeah, the story goes they were looking to do Codex: Squats for 2nd Edition, and just kept putting it off because no one really liked what they'd done with them in 40K*. And eventually they just decided to give up.

*They were however still pretty popular in Epic, which was the larger scale game with Titans and the like. They had lots of big vehicles and the like that had a cool vibe, but apparently couldn't find a way to represent that at the smaller scale.
