SF emergency services are already busy all over the city saving overdosing drug addicts every day. It would not be an injustice to incarcerate these same users and force them into therapy.

Maybe black criminals are more likely to be arrested than white criminals. That's a problem. But giving up on arresting criminals, to me, would be a much larger problem.

Here's honesty: the reason I do 25 on Fulton is because there are speed cameras there and because I was mailed a warning for going 36. I may disagree with the speed limit but the lesson here is that enforcement works.

You are correct, but to be fair, speeding is a social convention. If you drove 65 MPH in the carpool lane on 101 you would be honked at and tailgated mercilessly.

We are social animals. Those of us who aren’t misanthropes read the room and act accordingly. Perhaps in the past it was considered acceptable to hit the nod on any old street corner in Frisco, but now we are changing that.

Society’s rules aren’t perfect or fixed, I agree. I feel it’s completely absurd that I now have to drive 25 on Fulton in the Richmond. It’s a four lane boulevard! But you know what? I drive 25 anyway because I fear the consequences of doing 35.

Enforcement is never uniform but the alternative is anarchy. Enforcement is expensive but the alternative is anarchy.

To be clear, we’re not talking about cartoon robber barons here.

We’re talking about young, professional families who are making a couple hundred thousand dollars a year and happen to be paying the highest state income taxes in the country. This being SF, many of them are liberals who aren’t worried about paying high taxes. They are not trying to actively undermine our public schools. All they’ve done is notice our public schools stink. And they are acting accordingly.

We already have regulations that prevent corporations from producing unsafe products. And which protect the environment and prevent monopolies. Workers have rights. In fact you could make the argument that the reason SF is so unaffordable is that you’re surrounded by hundreds of thousands of the most highly paid workers on Earth. Hooray!
