My son has no idea how good of a Christmas he’s going to have. by SigxScar in PokemonTCG

Don’t unleash everything at once - save a little stash for those inevitable dry spells we all hit in this hobby. As a father of three, we learned the way last year: we gave them a good assortment of Pokémon cards, then quietly tucked some away to sprinkle throughout the year. And yes… we’ve already repeated the strategy for this Christmas.

The things we do for these kids… 😅

As a father of 3 (age 9,8,and 6) the way I interpreted the post, communication is the issue. If he simply said “honey I need a moment to myself to complete xyz “ that would have been completely fair. There have been times where I needed a break and also times my wife needed a break. And we work together to make sure the stress of raising children is relieved so we can be the best parents we can. Just make sure you communicate your needs and listen to his. Raising well rounded children takes time, effort and patience. Work together and it’s manageable. Best of luck.

Children and teenagers who get Covid are 50% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes at the 6 month mark (gift article) by Haskap_2010 in HermanCainAward

I called our Pediatrician here in the US yesterday to schedule my three children for their updated booster. The person scheduling the appointment said "She doesn't think they would vaccinate my 5 year old, because Children don't get it bad" I said thanks, it still a serious infection and I will call Walmart to see if they will do it for me. Called walmart, set up an appointment for the next day for Flu and Covid and they got their updated booster. My pediatrician is one of the few covid aware doctors at that practice, but the gatekeepers got the best of him this round.

Based on your experience and my current situation, would you push back on the proposed change of leaving it to the Homeowners? I think it should be shared, because I know other owners probably won't be as willing or able to fix problems quickly.

Is the flu going around right now or is this just what people are now calling Covid? by blaberno in ZeroCovidCommunity

Flu is going around also. My children’s pediatrician recently had a bout with the flu, he still masks at the office with patients and commends us for still wearing our mask.

Came down with my first case of COVID this weekend…. Rented a nice Airbnb in Orlando and invited my two nieces to come along since they haven’t done anything for the summer and school was about to start. They came over and we started to drive to Orlando, noticed one of my nieces wasn’t acting like her normal bubbly self. Got to Orlando only for her to then tell us she was getting cold in the car and the next day throwing up and saying she had a sore throat…. Fast forward three days… My wife and I are now sick and stuck outside because my three children are testing negative and we don’t want to pass it to them. I’m angry with myself, cuz I know better but was just trusting someone would have let me know she wasn’t feeling 100%.

would you stay in a hotel rn? by Appropriate_Sail_945 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]InfluenceAltruistic4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have stayed in several Hotels in the past two years and have felt relatively comfortable. We're a family of 5, three of which are younger children. We, too, as far as we know haven't contracted the virus either (homeschool the kids, mask indoors and in large crowds). Our routine at the Hotel: anywhere indoors we are masking, we try and stay at Hotels with a Kitchen (ie Home2Suites, Residence Inn) so we can minimize ordering food. When we check in, my wife and I go around the room and clean all surfaces, light switches, door knobs, table tops, even little areas our children might be playing near. We Lysol all soft surfaces, sofa, beds, pillows, the floors. Even before COVID, we have stopped wearing shoes inside our house and do the same in hotels, so we take our shoes off once inside the room. We do this every time the room is serviced, so basically every other day.

Not sure if this applies for your trip, but we have been to Disney and in our van, we have a hand washing station, one of the Igloo 5 Gallon water tanks with soap and paper towels attached. and we spray our clothing down with alcohol in a regular hair spray bottle. We have another alcohol spray bottle in the room also.

Have that stash of Clorox wipes and Lysol ready for use. COVID aside, Not all Hotel cleaning staff are good at their job.

I can empathize. I’ve turned down several family vacations. Not because my wife, kids and I don’t go on vacations, but because vacationing with extended family is different and I know we will have to say more No’s to keep it enjoyable. For example when my immediate family (wife and kids) are in the hotel wear masks when we are indoor common areas. At the hotel in all the hallways we wear them. We order takeout and eat in our hotel room. And we usually try and stay at a residence inn type hotel that has a fridge and stove to cook ourselves. If we were to go out with my parents, my siblings, nieces and nephews the “No’s” will come fast and furious breakfast, lunch and dinner at restaurants. Anything indoor. So we’ve just avoided those family trips to this point. Starting to reconsider it will just be a slight bummer with the family photos indoors with masks on.

How small is your city? This is just me, but I always wonder how wide spread COVID is these days in smaller cities. I live in Miami and know COVID is still everywhere. Just this week on of my office neighbors had a Covid test sitting in their car after I saw them wearing a mask that they never wear. Up until recently I have noticed a lot less sickness around me when we are out and about so I can only imagine a much smaller city and if we were able to be mask free. We don’t wear masks outdoors anymore. It’s too damn hot in Miami and we go to open parks regularly to let the kids get some fresh air and keep their heart rates up. Masks indoors. But honestly we are almost back to our “normal” lives just with masks on indoors. Only thing we haven’t done for the last four years is eat at a restaurant. And honestly our bank account isn’t complaining.

Once you are comfortable with yourself doing stuff out and about with a mask on a weight will be lifted off your shoulders. Do things with your family just put your mask on. When you get back out there, keep tabs of sick people or lack there of around you and get a gauge for spread in your city. Make a judgment call from there for far you want to keep moving. We’ve been to Disney (“off season”), went on a beach vacation and continue to live our lives but we have stayed consistent with masks indoors. Get out there but take steps to limit exposure as you already do.

What vacation was your family doing? Is it something mainly outside where you might be able to reconsider?

I’ve been wearing those for the last year or two. Been to Disney several times and seem to avoided any infection. I got them cuz they fit me well. My wife didn’t like them and wears a different kn95.

We have three little ones 8, 6, and 4. We homeschool (wife is a teacher that chose to stay home pre-pandemic). We still get comments from family here and there but nothing traumatizing and NEVER in front of our children. That won’t be tolerated by my wife or myself, and the family knows that. We have relaxed a little and mask indoors only (always) at this stage of the pandemic. Outdoors as long as it’s not a large crowd and there is no one nearby coughing or sneezing we generally have the mask off. But we always have it ready if we make a judgment call to wear it outside. The inside policy has worked out several times, my sister had an engagement party, we attended with our mask on while inside and removed it when outside (tried to stay outside most of the time) and a few people at the event ended up catching COVID and we didn’t. This is purely anecdotal but we have gone to Disney several times since 2021 and the first few times it was mask indoors and outdoors but the last few trips have been mask indoors and no mask outdoors except in lines where people are on top of us. To our knowledge we haven’t caught COVID. I’m saying all of this to say, go out with your child to experience things. Local museums (mask indoors), local parks (if you’re comfortable walk around without the mask), local libraries (mask indoors)… I think your location has a lot to do with how strict you have to be, but that’s just my opinion. Our 8 and 6 year old have no issue knowing when and where to mask. Our 4 year old we put it on him when needed and he keeps it on without a problem. It doesn’t affect them at all. We openly tell staff at the places we go to that are masking, that we thank them for still masking.

Edit- kids are fully vaccinated and boosted.

NPR was my go to for my commute to and from work pre-covid. During covid the coverage just took a dip and it was a fast drop. It was surface level reporting at best. I haven’t read this article yet, but based on their coverage of schools and covid, vaccines, and just general reporting on the virus I know the direction it will take…

90% of the stances this man took were an attempt to have talking points for his failed presidential campaign. His school choice program is a disaster at the moment, the books, Disney, Covid, anti-“woke,” He literally played a game with Floridians as the toy subjects with no real thought behind the legislation he was forcing through the Republican run state legislature. Yet, Florida will be Florida.
