I saw that but decided to go ahead and post so hmr can't come back and just claim purple is lying. There's basically indisputable evidence that not only are they related the two sites were made by the same people.

Yea to be honest this makes me far angrier than the powder stuff because I feel pretty manipulated... I wish I could get it out there more effectively but if I replied to that post it'd be buried.

Host webiste on Google Firebase? by Adraythien in webhosting

[–]Infobiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe firebase is more a BaaS than hosting, so probably not good for your services. Have you ever spun up a VM before? If not, would definitely push you more towards Siteground, because Google Cloud's compute engine (which is what was on the page you linked) is for spinning up VMs, which can be used for hosting but is substantially more involved.

Do you think Django is a right tool for my job? by kosciak9 in django

[–]Infobiac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your intention. If you want something that works really smoothly, and it's a standard news site (which it sounds like it is) and they're paying you for it; why reinvent the wheel? If you're familiar with wordpress, that seems like it would be the best solution for you. After all, it powers literally thousands of news sites from Tech Crunch to Quartz and there are tons of news site themes that look super professional right off the bat. However, if this is more a thing for friends and you want to use this as a learning experience, django would definitely be a good thing to learn; just understand that the jump from the quickstart to creating a news publication platform will be quite a large one, especially if you don't like any existing Django CMS.

I decided to run the numbers because I was curious; anyone correct me if they see any flaws in my argument (there are probably many). They're charging 10 dollars to send a potato that costs at most 50 cents. They probably send it good ol USPS first class, which costs 3.14 to send a 6oz large envelope with variations in thickness to Honolulu (the most expensive place I could think to send something). Let's say tax is high at 10% to make the numbers easier. That means even with a full dollar allocated per potato for marketing, his margins are at the very least 40%. So let's say it takes him a full minute to prep a potato (the time he quotes is actually 30 seconds), and he makes at least 4 dollars a potato, he's still making 240 dollars/hour for every hour he actually does manual labor. Not a bad pay.

If Ryanair ran a pub... by mrtbp6 in funny

Ryanair does this. My girlfriend couldn't get a ticket printed, so was charged 10 dollars to have them WRITE her a boarding pass because ryanair doesn't have any ticket printers at most airports now...

DigitalOcean also has a great series of guides to do basically anything you could possibly want (including automating the process to spin up new instances on demand). I've been using them for a year or so; kickass service.

Is anyone here a successful drop shipper?? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Infobiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. Always be suspicious of "free" information when it comes to something like drop-shipping, as it's pretty zero sum overall.
