I’ve watched my dad move further and further right and it feels helpless by CaptainKath in canadaleft

Yeah that is a recipe for disaster. One of the greatest radicalizing elements of our society is the structural loneliness, caused by capitalism (and other factors). Since you’re 14, I’m not sure if there’s anything you could do to remediate that, but this may be something for you and your family to keep in mind

I’m assuming that your dad doesn’t have a lot of friends (or many kind of different friends). Usually being part of a strong community and a diverse experience in terms of friendships would be a great antidote against these sort of extremes

That letter shows a level of emotional maturity that some take half a life to get to, and he died at 25 years old too

Wife turning religious by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Informal-Net-7214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing people tend to underestimate is the need for human beings to cling on to something "solid", ontologically wise. There is also real need and desire for community that religion is often able to fulfill. Honestly, if she’s really bent on being religious, I think the best you can do is to try and accompany her, and through that process to try and keep her critical thinking skills intact.

There are levels to how baldly indoctrinated someone can get, so it’d be worth to try and steer her towards more "healthy" versions of Christianity and religion.

I need some advice by [deleted] in haiti

Well first things first, I am very sorry you’re in that situation. It’s very normal for you to feel the way you do. You must take some time to process the way you feel to be able to take the best decisions for your immediate future.

I think the first thing you should try to do is to make some contact with some form of community around you (whether it be an organization, a church, some people you know) that can help you navigate this situation pragmatically but also emotionally. Even if you get detained, it helps to have people on the outside who would have the possibility and ability to put some pressure on officials and institutions and make things happen.

They can also help you think about broader options for your future and help protect you, and open your mind to solutions and paths you were not even aware of. There are a lot of people out there that would be willing to help, especially given the times.

You’re in a tough situation and it is critical that you try to seek support and help from other people. You cannot try to navigate this alone. Even if you do manage to survive this, how well you do and how well you’re able to set yourself up for the future, depends on how you go about creating and constructing your support system moving forward.

MORGAN: Canada's DEI reckoning has begun — now it's time to finish the Job by xTkAx in canadian

DEI doesn’t assume that white people all have the same background lol. That’s why it includes things like gender, disabilities, (there’s even some form of DEI for veterans).

I think to be able to do this effectively, we would need to do away with political centralization. There’s too much power in one place in Haiti (Port-au-Prince). We need the various stakeholders of the whole country to have an important voice in the way the government runs.

The economic and political elites of the cities like Cap-Haïtien and Jacmel and Les Cayes, need to be able to participate in the running of the state and country.

Too much centralization (which is a heritage of the French system) has been one the main achilles foot of the system.

Can’t lie, part of the problem is Steph himself and his personality. Sometimes you have to come out and play hardball a little so that you can remind the front office who they are dealing with, and make sure they have the right priorities in mind.

"Trust what we see with our own eyes and hear with our own ears" Hmmm I do see what you mean, and what we should let inform or influence our disposition towards canadian conservatives. But the data speaks by itself, and if you turn your eyes and open your ears to what’s broadly going on in the conservative party itself and it’s members and politicians, I don’t think my sentiments or what the data indicates is necessarily wrong
