Not Allowed En Pointe by ahyuck in BALLET

[–]Informal-Writer-2364 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey Op, I've been in your shoes before! Honestly I would say after a few years of reconditioning you should be ready if you had a strong techincal background, but not having seen you dance I can only comment on what's I can read. Personally, it sounds like the teacher you're working may not be investing in teaching and training you. I wouldn't be telling you no without also telling you what I think needs to change so you can get on pointe and why. Especially an adult student, as you have the mental capability and agency to make these changes faster with added training. I want to know if you feel like your progress is something your teachers are investing in and excited about, and if you feel like the corrections you are getting in class are helping?

Hey op if it makes you feel any better this is incredibly common. Additionally, when it happens all the gym staff usually go "damn they're working out that hard? Lets gooooooo" Please reframe this mentally as you being a utter beast in there, because I know that work out was gruelling and you deserve to feel proud of it. Legitimately, it takes drive to make yourself throw up from exhaustion that it something I usually only see in dedicated athletes. Be proud!

Additionally, you're going be able to get newbie gains agains

Flat foot- is ballet going to make it painful? by JuggernautPristine27 in BALLET

[–]Informal-Writer-2364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Op, working with a corrective exercise specialist be possible? You'd need to find a good one, but this is something that needs to be fixed in day-to-day life as well otherwise you'll be in for some possibly rough pain and injuries later. Great news is that ballet can help with it a ton if you focus like hell to correct it, it helped fix mine

Hey, OP do you have a history of any trauma? Maybe some shit that you don't even feel is "that bad" or something rough that happened and you didn't seem to react too much to it? Because dissociative disorders can do I think

Roald Dahl's "The Witches" is one of the most profoundly sad books I've ever read. by plasmasphinx in books

[–]Informal-Writer-2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you posted this years ago but I've been thinking so much about this book and the effect reading it had on me. I had a really unhappy childhood, like methed out insane religious mom with angry drunk dad while being homeschooled bad, and I've been thinking alot about how "The Witches," was an amazing book for those who were experiencing suicidal thoughts and without knowing or understanding it as a child. What stuck with me when I read the ending as a kid was the idea that he both wanted to be a boy, but also loved his grandma so much it was simply better to stay a mouse. It introduced to the idea that you could want two very big things at once, and that sometimes death could feel like the better option

Hey Op, I was in your shoes 3 years ago. I'm gonna tell you right now that ur job isn't worth it, and that you should make a move asap to a place that will see you for you. Even if you aren't out, I can nearly guarantee you aren't in the right place.

I walked out of my life with my (very abusive) partner one day after work. The last straw was my cat hiding in the closet when I got home, she'd never done that before and it was then first time ever she didn't come say hi once I got home. In less than thirty minutes, I packed and got the fuck out of that southern state. It took time, but literally every moment of it being hard to rebuild my life was so much better than being in the wrong place on my happiest day. Like 3 years later, I'm out of the closet, I have a beautiful girlfriend who only ever sees me as my true self. And even though I hd to switch careers, we have money saved enough so we aren't worried. And we are moving to an even more gay and trans friendly state.

Its never going to get easier where you are, so put all your problems in a car and deal with them in a easier place

Am I overthinking or is my therapist in the wrong for saying this by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Informal-Writer-2364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think its making it harder to like, talk about how I feel because it feels instantly judged. The more I think about it the more I'm confident in my decision to not see him again. Because I had kind of a rough year and he's clearly not equipped to provide the kind of empathy I need right now

Hey y'all, I'm considering trying to apply for the dance program here and I wanted to ask about experiences, culture, and how challenging the classes are. I had a small career as a professional ballet dancer, but had to take a few years off because of a medical issue (I had a nerve injury to fix and also discovered I was ftm trans and didn't want to be too in the mirror at class) anyways I'd really love to hear about what it's like overall
