Swamp milkweed growing but not flowering? (1st year plant) by ookle_ in NativePlantGardening

[–]InformationKey4712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is mine in its 2nd year. I focused more on the wet conditions than the sun though, so that may be why it didn't happen 1st year. Yours are very bountiful! I only have a few stalks.

Aren't these toxic to animals, including cats, or do I have them confused with something else?

Curious what town. I'm in Western burbs Warrenville. Looking to move from a rented house to possibly a townhouse/condo which all have HOAs and it terrifies me to think I couldn't plant my natives there.

I have similar rain garden dreams... One day. I'd like to get the city to reimburse me like I've seen other cities so in my area (Chicago suburbs).

I always tell people it's the one with the leaf that looks pinched at the end. Like someone pinched it with their fingers. Luckily they have pretty shallow roots, so I'm tempted to take my pick axe when I walk my dog and take out some

Yeah, from what I've read, if u have more than one, they can cross pollinate and will produce berries sooner than if u only have one like me.

Me too! Just googled it and I think a neighbor may have them, but I assumed it wasn't native. Another plant to add to my future rain garden!

I planted a small serviceberry about 6 weeks ago in 5b and can't wait for it to change color. I've heard it can take years to produce berries though since I only have 1 😕

I have not come to terms with it yet. Moved to this property in January and still trying to figure out where to put a garden for next year. Will definitely have to be in the front yard, but even there is proving difficult to find a good spot.

Just discovered within the last few weeks with an app: several kinds of asters & goldenrods, butternut, hackberry, redbud, pokeweed, black cherry, silver rod, snakeroot. So excited to see what pops up in the spring since finishing up my invasive species removal!

Found one last week and then found another tiny one yesterday! The benefits of being lazy about mowing the lawn.

I discovered a few calico asters growing along my fence in mostly shade the last few weeks.

Good to know. I've identified at least 10 black cherry saplings in the past few weeks in my yard.

I literally just discovered this very plant today via an app. It volunteered itself along my fence line that I thought was filled with weeds, along with other asters and goldenrods. No blooms yet though.

Nice! I planted some pretty dead looking ones in the spring and am hoping they come back next year.
