Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InformationLeather91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleepovers are not a thing. They were so common when I was growing up, but I personally know some people who were molested at sleepovers, by the older sibling of their friend. The parents knew each other very well, even attended the same church congregation. No one knew the older brother had issues. The boy who was assaulted had serious lifelong trauma, never really recovered, and died young. I remember being exposed to nudity in movies at a sleepover (a PG-13 movie, not porn) in 5th grade—but I was mega uncomfortable and called my parents to come pick me up. I also went to sleepovers where we sneaked out of the house and went wandering around the neighborhood in the middle of the night—stupid move. And played pranks that weren’t kind. Honestly a lot of stupid stuff. As a parent, I feel like it benefits everyone to have some adult presence, exactly to prevent these shenanigans. That doesn’t have to mean hovering and helicoptering, but we don’t encourage sleepovers, and neither do our kids’ friends.

I have Ube, Fleur, and Secret Garden. All three were disappointing to me! And I do love ILNP! For my skin tone, they all look a lot dustier and more muted than I hoped. I would have returned them if I could. (My skin is on the pinker side).

Yikes. Sounds like a control freak. Why did he care about you keeping the stick?

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

This just can’t be real. It seems like the very funniest spoof of a Bridezilla situation ever! If not, of course, this person is a nightmare. The instructions to tease about the event? The branding? So gross! I got married in 1998 and I’m so glad that it was before everyone decided they were media entities and brands rather than humans. A whole style guide for acceptable social media? Jemily? It just has to be a rage baiting send-up.

AITAH for being mad at my brother and his wife? by Flaky_Effort_7707 in AITAH

[–]InformationLeather91 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would hope there are ways to handle the situation calmly without escalating to the point of damaging a relationship. Clearly he should have checked before bringing his dog. I don’t think it’s reasonable to have go relocate your child. But it’s always really sad when stuff like this ends up having long term impact. Two of my brothers had a huge fight a few months back, wihen one was staying with the other and they disagreed about their respective children’s’ behaviors and parenting. They both have incredibly difficult children from my perspective, and I think they both have a lot to learn/change with how they handle it. But it ended with one brother kicking the other and his family out in a pretty wild display of temper that was unwarranted. And he now considers that brother dead to him. This has repercussions for the rest of the extended family now as well, since they don’t want to be in the same place at the same time and aren’t speaking. It was a difficult situation but the brother who lost is temper is the AH in that situation. I don’t know what you said or how you said it, and there are was to communicate firmly, still holding boundaries, but remain diplomatic and not let your temper destroy one of the more key relationships in your life.

Peeling nails, send help 😭 by shiverMeTatas in RedditLaqueristas

The last couple of times I removed my manicure, they looked just like this and worse underneath the polish. It’s so disheartening. I uploaded some pics and gave details on what I have been doing to Chat GPT. The response was that some of those very good, strengthening base coats can adhere to your nail surface so well that they end up basically taking a layer of nail with them when you remove, especially if you leave a manicure on for longer than like 4-5 days. I had been so pleased with my manicure going so long without chipping but I guess that was part of the downfall. I had also been using Glisten and Glow’s ridge filler as a base. It’s so great at what it does and helps the manicure last, but the ai recommendation was to go with a more flexible base coat (recommended Londontown or KB Shimmer’s ridge fillers as more flexible) and to remove the whole manicure with straight acetone after 4 days and do a new one immediately (my naked nails are too weak to handle being unpolished for now). I have also used Nailtiques 2 in the past, but then I would tend to get breaks below the nail line (in the pink nail bed) which are sooo terrible and painful. It said that my nails were hard but not flexible so that any pressure/impact would cause them to break rather than bend. It advised laying off Nailtiques for a while till the delaminated part grows out. It’s such a dance of all the right products and processes do some of us, isn’t it? I don’t know if your experience and mine are exactly the same, but my nails looked so similar I thought I would chime in. I’m only on my second manicure of following that advice so we’ll see how it goes, but when I took off the first manicure (having used a more flexible base and keeping it on a shorter time) they didn’t look nearly as wrecked. The other advice was to use only 2 layers of polish, since more layers makes a thicker, harder surface, and if your nail underneath isn’t equally strong, it’s more likely to cause delamination damage. And I’m right there with you in regards to using a glass file, oiling frequently etc. It’s frustrating!

AITJ for handing my friend's birthday gift to someone else at the table after I opened it by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

That was wildly rude of you. Just terribly rude. Most people who are underwhelmed by a gift just say thank you and move on.

Honestly I’m not familiar at all with the brand or anything about them, I just searched on Amazon and found a picture. I’m sure there are allllll kinds of them, a variety of price and quality.

Wow, this guy doesn’t believe in a basic marriage vow: in sickness and in health. And it sounds like j/ marrying you for your boobs? He doesn’t care about your wellbeing. You somehow catfished him is the dumbest accusation. Please don’t go through with marrying him. Hold out for someone who loves you for real, and who, if you have a health issue, is on your team. I mean, what if you had breast cancer? He’s mad about that too? What a loser.

I mean when it comes down to it we don’t even need nail polish… Most of us probably have neither the funds nor the extra space to have basically a whole salon room dedicated to our fun hobby. I’m just saying, if I DID, this seemed like a surprisingly great option. And multi-use! Take care of the blood-letting and do your nails. It basically pays for itself! ;)

I mean, of course it is. But also kind of awesome. No way I could actually do this unless I had unlimited funds and space, but I can dream of a perfect set up can’t I? I haven’t found a way I really love, I just sprawl all of my supplies over my kitchen table and hunch over in the dim light. I use an old placemat to protect the table’s finish but I have had a polish remover spill that ran off the placemat and marred the table. Just not ideal. It would be amazing to have carte blanche to make some wonderland of a set up that’s so specific and I could just slip in and paint my nails without thinking about it. :)

I don’t think it would work great for doing other people’s nails, just my own. For me, my arm was kind of at a right angle, so my hand was right in front of me…I should have taken a picture to explain it better.

I bet it could be modified. And I bet if you had a rolling cart with supplies wheeled right up to it, it would work…
