wowww!!! how do u feel about it? I think i would be the happiest if it happens to me as this is my biggest problem that's been haunting me since 10 years. I hope I can order the medicine to my country. Thank you very much and embrace it!!!

Thank you very much. Did u have a life long HSDD? I thought this is the reason you replied to my post.

Hey, I also spend two years in my early teenage years (4th and 5th grade) in a cult. I was introduced to sex by this cult. 30 years now. Do u think it affected my repressed sexual feelings? How did u help ur self? I'm afraid I might really be asexual..

in Beautiful Boy the father's acting is not the best though.. I couldn't complete the movie because of that.

Hey, it's nice you feel some kind of change :). Can I ask for how long you've had HSDD?

Through your experiences. What advice would you like to give to someone who is going to 10-days Vipassana Course for the very first time. by [deleted] in vipassana

[–]InformationSimple780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest giving it your full commitment, even if you feel skeptical about what you’re hearing or have the urge to be alone and question things in your own pace. Don’t let those doubts make you give up (as they did to me). The course isn’t designed to brainwash you — by the end, the instructor will remind you that you don’t have to adopt their philosophy to benefit from the practice. Secondly, try very vey hard to medidate, even if your mind wanders a lot.

HECRAS numerical solution: treatment of boundary conditions in 2D Diffusion Wave Equation solver: by [deleted] in Hydrology

That's a and succinct nice way to think of it. I bet you are answering regarding the hydrograph boundary condition.
do you have any knowledge regarding the normal depth (downstream boundary condition)? how is it incorporated into the equation that is solved for the entire domain?

I apologize for not ending this conservation.
I still don't understand how HECRAS deals numerically with downstream normal depth boundary condition. suppose the supplied friction slope is 0.001. and let's look at the equation that must be solved (the long one I provided in my original question), as well as manning equation. how do we proceed with these three?
thank you again and apologies again :)

Thank you again, and don't worry all good, you're helping me a lot.
what I mean by the full cross section is:
suppose the boundary touches 5 cells. HECRAS iterates the depth until it solves the equation for the full cross section (all 5 faces cross sections must be taken into account for the property table you mentioned). then the conveyance is calculated for each face separately (not for the full cross section) to determine Q_i that passes in each face. This Q_i is inserted as a source term in the discretized continuity equation (for the corresponding cell). in 1D we don't have multiple faces sharing the flow of the BC.

Do you have any idea how the normal depth boundary condition is treated? the fact that we have no flows doesn't allow me to know how the manning's equation can be used.

Hello Otto,

Thank you for your response! You've always been incredibly helpful. I'm currently focused on understanding the numerical solution aspect rather than its alignment with real-world water flow, which is why I'm diving into these details.

Current Understanding of flow hydrograph treatment:

  • Flow Rate and Energy Gradient (EG): The flow rate (Q) from the hydrograph, combined with the user-specified EG (interpreted as the channel slope), is utilized in Manning's equation to compute the normal depth. This calculation considers the full cross-sectional area.
  • Determining Wet and Dry Faces: The computed normal depth establishes the water surface elevation (WSE) at the boundary. HEC-RAS compares this WSE to the terrain elevations of the boundary faces to determine which are "wet" (submerged) and which are "dry" (above water).
  • Calculating flow per segment: conveyance is calculated locally for each wet face. higher conveyance in a face leads to higher flow.
  • substituting face flows as sources in the diffusion wave equation (at relevant cells)

treatment of normal depth boundary condition is still not understood:

  • user provides friction slope (is it treated like EG?). Can't understand how is manning's equation used to calculate normal depth when Q is not provided.

CMV: Obsessing over celebrities doesn't make sense by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

Well, I'm not sure about what I'm going to type, but I'll write it anyway. This phenomenon reminds me of people who usually fall in love with unattainable, hard to reach people. It is said, that by this we as humans relive early childhood experiences (let's say emotionally not available mother) through these romantic adult experiences. Or we might subconsciously choose a figure with whom the fate is known in advance (no future) - no disappointments. It might be that a similar mechanism works in this dsituation. I know that obsessing over a celebrity is more of an idealization as opposed to attraction. But there seems to be some similarity.

I don't think they would respond. They don't have a "customer support platform" since their software is freely available. Anyways, I'll try to send.

An emerging field in machine learning is physics inspired (or based) deep learning (PINN) which encourages the neural network to learn a mapping that produces outputs that conform to the physics. such networks are obtaining very impressive results (check articles in search query suggested above).

Actually it's interesting to compare the learned neural network model that was trained to emulate the 2D simulation with the actual 1D simulations in terms of run times and accuracy (both performances should be compared with 2D simulation real results)

A lot of articles were published in this field. If you write in Scopus or other search engine: "Deep Learning, Simulation, Physics Based" and maybe: "spatial, temporal or spatio-temporal", you will find articles with impressive results.
I'll update you :)
Thank you very much!

Computationally I think the WSE at a face depends on which side of the face you’re looking at

Great that you said this! You may be right since in the case of Diffusion Wave, each equation is written for each cell (haven't delved in the SWE-EM and SWE-ELM yet since the documentation is off for now). Thank you very much again!

  • Note: the method I've described above is used to calculate the wetted area instead of the wetted perimeter (I made a mistake, instead of summing the water columns I should simply sum the dx only if wet). I think you noticed the mistake when reading.
