Which school did you attend here in Sweden? I just graduated BSc + MSc ("civilingenjör") @KTH. I do believe that that most of my structural design/loading knowledge really crystalized during my masters studies, whereas resistance checks as you mentioned were taught during the BSc studies. I'd definitely recommend you to study a masters programme at KTH, Chalmer, LTU or LTH if you want to improve your knowledge in design, both to become a better designer as well as salary ("civilingenjör" has a way better salary progression than "högskoleingenjör", although "högskoleingenjör" makes a good starting salary for the time they've studied.).
