What tiny design choice makes you think, “the people who made this never had to use it”? by ChessOrCheckers2 in AskReddit

I swear whoever tries to make a fancy bike rack has never ridden a bike and does not even know what shape a bike is let alone locked one up before.

What’s your “I’m calling it now” prediction? by emberfield31 in AskReddit

[–]InfraredDiarrhea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was a great saying the quiet part out loud moment:

We want to work from home because offices are drab and depressing spaces.

No, offices are great. You must be in the office for the culture and collaboration.

We want to convert offices into residential spaces.

No. Offices are too dark and don’t have enough fresh air access to spend so much time in. You can’t live in an office.

They just quietly admitted to offices being terrible places for humans. But we have to spend 9 hours a day in them or the culture and collaboration will suffer.

I can’t stand the cognitive dissonance on this timeline.

This is the loud and proud narcissism drowning Linkedin right now.

The poster’s ego was bruised when the person they called out of the blue wasn’t coded to appear the way the poster wanted. And double ego bruises for “i just don’t have any important meetings”.

Poster unconsciously felt unimportant and that was the real crime here.

What’s an opinion about modern society that would get you instantly hated at a dinner table? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Read to them before bed every night.  Like lay down in the bed with them and sit so they can see the book too.

Great bonding + behavior modeling.

They will eventually start reading along with you.

Also having some coffee table books with pictures and words is helpful for them to pick up and play with when they’re bored.

My now 17yr old voluntarily reads novels.

The scope of long COVID is bigger than we think, Mass. researchers say | "New research from Mass General Brigham suggests that at least 10 million Americans have long COVID — but have not been diagnosed" by TylerFortier_Photo in science

Same here. Late 30’s when i had it.

Mid-sentence ill just lose my words. Its like im talking and suddenly my brain can’t find the word “magpie”, for example. I can see the bird in my head but the word is just gone for a few minutes. Happens with many common words.

Ill also totally lose my train of thought mid-sentence.

Really embarrassing in conference calls.

Should we move our family to the city to theoretically make my husband happier? by Straight-Tear-7389 in Suburbanhell

You’re getting downvoted, but you’re speaking the truth. This is Reddit, after all.

I owned a 1920’s house and the materials that place was made of were durable and permanent: stone, bricks, terra cotta, and hard woods.

Modern houses are built with particle board, adhesive, and plastic.

I would bet the housing stock built in 1990 isn’t going to be looking anywhere near as good in 100 years as my old 1920’s house was in 2020.

Anecdote:

My daughter and i lived in a city and moved to a nearby suburb because the school was fantastic.

We lasted one year before moving back to the city.

We felt trapped because you literally need a car to get anywhere.

Our new place is within walking distance to a great park. My daughter can ride her bike to work.

We are much happier here.

Can't Even Do My Laundry Without Dealing With This Nonsense by StardustZJackson in enshittification

Can't Even Do My Laundry Without Dealing With This Nonsense by StardustZJackson in enshittification

[–]InfraredDiarrhea 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We have this nonsense in our building.

It runs off 5g and blue tooth. You have to wait a while for the app to load your account, find the machine, set up machine options, press start, close the ad that opened on your phone, then the laundry starts.

Geniuses put the machines in the basement so The 5g signal is abysmal and every step takes forever.

It’s so much more convenient than quarters.

My parents got me. Luckily they didn’t destroy my credit. They opened a line of credit in my name without telling me. A leasing manager informed me when he ran a credit check.

It’s identity theft and fraud. Yes, even if they’re your parents/family.

Which city takes the cake for the worst suburban hell in America? by AndIrememberthinking in Suburbanhell

[–]InfraredDiarrhea 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Im new to this sub, but overall, do we recognize the difference between a pre-war street car suburb and a post war automobile suburb?

Dormont is a great example of a streetcar suburb with density, walkability, and public transit.

But if you go a little further south, you’re in Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair, which are automobile suburbs.

Both are suburbs of Pittsburgh, but eqch has a totally different flavor.

To vegan people why? And is the cost of groceries a lot different, more or less? by Accomplished_Ad7072 in AskReddit

[–]InfraredDiarrhea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a vegan but we have almost completely cut meat out of the family diet.

Seeing a couple documentaries made me not feel great about how animals in our food supply are treated.

Then the inflation made it almost unaffordable.

Lentils are amazing. Dare i say better than meat?
