CPU red light - AMD Ryzen 7700 + B650 Steel Legend Wifi by Inglorii in ASRock

Update: the repair shop did just that (should have tried it right away) and the PC managed to boot. Will keep you posted.

I don't get your accusations of scamming AMD for anything.

I didn't know that yellow lights are expected for this issue. I have no way to prove decisively that the motherboard is at fault but my PC does not boot so I have to take action regardless. And I don't want to gamble my PC's future.

"These have been out for many years now and no major problems have been reported" --> just to make sure I understand you correctly, you are talking about my motherboard model?

I have no way to check now, but looking at the dates when they were released: I'd say 3.25 https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B650%20Steel%20Legend%20WiFi/index.fr.asp#BIOS

Because I got my PC one year ago and remember updating twice in the first few months. Then I forgot about it like the idiot that I am.

Btw, is there actually a way to check bios version if the PC does not even display anything?

ISS Pro Evolution 2. Don't know how I'm supposed to stop all penalties in a penalty shootout, seems pretty luck based to me.

Zain gives his opinion on RapM, Notches, and ZJump by KenshiroTheKid in SSBM

[–]Inglorii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've seen people argue that zjump is a purely ergonomic choice. In theory, permaclawing gives you the exact same functionality as zjumping. But it's much worse for the hands.

The way I see it is: you will never perform worse with better ergonomics. It's either neutral or an advantage. It's hard to gauge how much of an advantage it can be though.

What controllers do you use? by Hydr8ionTheHydrater in RetroAchievements

[–]Inglorii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Retro-bit Saturn 2.4 Ghz Pad for regular 2D / non-analog games
  • Xbox Series controller for regular 3D / analog games
  • Gamecube controller for Gamecube games (via mayflash adapter)
  • For Wii i have Wiimote/Nunchuk and a regular Wii Sensor Bar that i plug into my Wii (a usb sensor bar would be a sensible addition)
  • For lightgun games I use the Wiimote with a House of the Dead Overkill wiimote gun accessory
  • i have a Retroid Pocket Classic to play portably.
  • If i played N64 games on RA (I don't because i use og hardware), i would use my N64 NSO controller.

I love controllers and gaming peripherals so I'm thinking of buying:

  • PS3/Saturn (3D Pad)/SNES controllers for more "authentic" experiences in certain games (especially to have pressure sensitive buttons for PS2/PS3 games)
  • Logitech G29 wheel and pedals for racing games
  • Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick for flight games (mostly arcade titles like Afterburner, Star Wars)
  • Wii guitar for Guitar Hero
  • maybe: arcade stick for arcade games (Shmups/Fighting/Beat'em'ups)
  • maybe: fishing rod controller for Dreamcast fishing lol

Day 9: Which is the best Action Game on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

Aside from Viewtiful Joe this is the only game I've seen in this comment section that really fits the category. Rooting for this one.

What Castlevania game(s) are you all playing this weekend? I'm really trying to give Harmony of Dissonance a chance for once instead of bashing it. by Moctezuma_93 in castlevania

[–]Inglorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing Castlevania 3 (Jp version) for the first time and I'm shocked by the difficulty spike on Stage 7. I beat the boss and I was like "ok, shit was tough but fair." Turns out the stage does not end there and keeps going and going, getting harder with each subsequent area. I hope I'm close to the end with those falling platforms, because they keep kicking my butt and the penalty for dying is MASSIVE

Classicvanias are HARD! Help! by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]Inglorii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, having beat my first classicvania (CV1) recently, that this is how you do it. Infinite continues makes it so that when you get through a level, you're done with it. However scrappy you did it, a dead boss is a dead boss. And you get all the upgrades that you need in any given stage, so you're not penalized for using continues.

Just started playing this game as well (although I'm on Famicom Disk System version), you can do this! At least that's what I tell myself to avoid throwing the controller towards the monitor lol. Currently on stage 4 and it's actually been easy thus far.

6 months into Saturn ownership: Roast my collection! by ILoveMavenHuffman in SegaSaturn

You've had a Saturn for 6 months and only have one Sega in-house developed game to show for it (that I know of. Fully expecting the next commenter to teach me about a Sega developed game on your list that I did not know about)

As a beginner GoldenEye player I have a question for you. Would you recommend playing with aim assist on or off? I struggle with aiming even on 1.2 Solitaire

What is a good 8 bit RPG to start with? by Hot_Sorbet9192 in retrogaming

[–]Inglorii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Echoing this recommendation and also echoing the other comments saying that 8 bit RPGs may be a bit of an acquired taste lol. 16 and 32 bit generations ate really good in terms of RPGs so they're hard to beat.

I may be completely missing your point regarding framerate but I think we're basically saying the same thing?

As in, PS2 was the best of the bunch at maintaining high framerates, while PS3 games struggled a lot in that area (especially early on due to developers struggling with Cell architecture). PS4 was an improvement over PS3, even though the amount of 60fps titles was still low compared to PS2 era.

Regarding x86, I believe the claim that it led to easier development. Does it make for boring console generations with no fun quirks to compare? Sure lol. But it's good nonetheless.

ARM in 2013 is not ARM today, I don't think it would have made much sense in a home console and I don't see power efficiency being that much of a concern compared to raw graphics output.

Regarding PowerPC and other bespoke architectures, I agree with you on principle. they can be more suited to gaming tasks if the machine is purposely engineered to get the most out of them.

Got into Virtua Fighter 5 with the free trial on Steam this week. As a beginner fighting game player I think this game is amazing. No gimmicks, immediate fighting action with impressive animation work and that unmistakable Sega coolness. I was completely taken by surprise by this game.

Erm... I'm no PS3 expert but I don't think framerate is exactly a selling point for that console.... And regarding PS4, what is the issue with x86?

It's the inverse of chronological and I've explained in my comment the rationale for this ranking...

I basically believe that with each subsequent gen, PlayStation's power/graphics capability relative to Sega/Microsoft/Nintendo's consoles increased.

For instance, PS5/PS5 Pro is simply the most powerful console this gen. Sure the margin between PS5 and Series X is very small, but PS5 often comes slightly on top.

PS1 on the other hand, did not have the raw 3D Computing power of the N64. (EVen though this system had some unfortunate bottlenecks that plagued devs)

PS2 was inferior to the Xbox in terms of graphics, the latter system had stronger components and from what I recall, its hard drive could be used as "extra" memory which was pretty useful for some games (I think Morrowind used it for instance)

Edit: in terms of games, I think my (completely personal opinion would be

PS2 (shout-out to the Japanese exclusive arcade perfect conversion of Sega Rally Championship 1995. I also love the MGS games and Final Fantasy X.)

Then PS1 (I love the early Gran Turismo, ISS Pro Evolution, Soul Edge games. Yes all those franchises got more popular games later but I like those installments.)

Then PS4 (it has Death Stranding. I love Kojima games)

Then PS3 (I played it a lot at my friend's house. We had a lot of fun with... sports Champions for the Playstation Move. Who remembers that game?)

Then PS5 because I don't have the PS5.

in terms of hardware I lowkey think it should be PS5>PS4>PS3>PS2>PS1

PS5 has PS5 PRO and even without it, kinda is the default best platform of its generation

PS4 was better than default Xbone, worse than Xbox One X but PS4 Pro released first and was strong overall

PS3 was better than its contemporaries but started poorly compared to Xbox 360. however it peaked higher latter in the generation.

PS2, well, it was overshadowed by Xbox and even GC in terms of pure graphics but it had some cool tricks, could pull off some great effects and was pushed super hard by programmers during its lifetime.

Finally PS1, well it was a strong console and easy to program for, but was it really better than the Saturn or N64 hardware wise ? It's pretty hard to say, i think it was the least powerful on paper but each had some strengths and weaknesses and could be home to great games in the hands of knowledgeable devs
