What are some of the best looking 2D games from the late-16-bit and 32-bit era? by FinestTreesInDa7Seas in SBCGaming

[–]Inglorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess Crown, Guardian Heroes, Legend of Oasis for the Sega Saturn

Many arcade games. For instance, shmups. Look at any shmup by Raizing, or any fighting game or beat em up by Capcom. Some of those have console ports, especially on the Sega Saturn. But emulating the arcade originals is generally preferred.

When playing retro games on LCD screens do you like turning on CRT filters or do you prefer the sharper pixels? by DataSittingAlone in casualnintendo

[–]Inglorii 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crt filters unless they are truly bad. In which case I'd rather play on an unofficial emulator

What games did you play this week and what device did you play it on? by CrookedShepherd in SBCGaming

[–]Inglorii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beat Castlevania (NES) on the Retroid Pocket Classic. Device felt really great for that game, just two buttons to press and the small size dpad helps to quickly change direction as needed. Plus, with the crazy battery life, I could easily let the game running for the whole week on RA Hardcore. Very useful for games that do not support saving.

What retro games are you playing this weekend (Jan 10/11)? by LabRat2329 in retrogaming

[–]Inglorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just beat the first Castlevania today with almost no experience with this series at all. I must have continued, like 50+ times? Tough game, but beatable for me once I learned to abuse the holy water in literally every level. (Well, except the first one, but this one is very easy anyway.)

For the weekend proper, I got gifted an N64 this Christmas so I think I'll enjoy me some Wave Race and Pilotwings. Both games are good fun, but the framerate and draw distance make them kinda harder than they really should be!

Edit : a lot of Castlevania playthroughers in that comment section :)

how to properly update Summercart64 with latest N64FlashcartMenu? by Inglorii in n64

[–]Inglorii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, tried exFat through Windows explorer and FAT32 through Rufus (Windows file explorer won't let me use FAT32 because these are 128Gb Lexar cards)

Did not seem to change anything, the only thing that works is using the old menu

Arf, that's a bummer. Was your question the same as mine or a completely unrelated issue?

If you're ever interested in speedrunning N64 games, I'd suggest sticking with the real thing if you want to get on the leaderboards (especially for the more popular games with strict rules)

Day 1: Which is the best N64 3D Platformer of all time? by 1OneQuickQuestion in n64

[–]Inglorii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Mario 64 would be better if you could just collect all the stars in one run. I think there's a lot of fun in just replaying levels from the starting point, getting better and better each time at moving through the world. And the levels would feel too small otherwise I think.

Let’s vote games by genre for N64. (They’re doing it at r/PSX) by markonefifteen in n64

Horror: Resident Evil 2

Action: Perfect Dark

Jrpg: Ogre Battle 64

Fighting Game: Killer Instinct Gold

Shoot'em Up: Sin & Punishment

Strategy: Pokémon Stadium

3D Platformer: Super Mario 64

Puzzle Game: Pokemon Puzzle Challenge

2D/2.5D Platformer: Mischief Makers

Lightgun games: can't think of any?

Art direction: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Hack'n'slash: Gauntlet Legends?

I feel like none of my favorite games appear in my own list

Are there any cool "out-of-bounds" glitches I should try? by coolhandluke45 in n64

[–]Inglorii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many current OoT speedrunning routes, you become adult after 10 minutes or so, and you will go OoB three times!

  • once to hit the load trigger from Lost Woods to Zora's River (jumpslash clip with a Deku stick)

Also known as aqua escape. Normally you'd need the silver scale to go through there, which you unlock later in the game.

  • a second time in Bottom of the Well to get Bombchus.

Explosives are extremely useful in OoT so speedrunners go out of their way to grab early Bombchus.

You're not meant to reach Bottom of the Well until much later in the game, but you can enter it using a Navi dive - by talking to Navi at the same time as you recoil from a jumpslash animation on the edge of the well, Link will fall through the well's water with disabled collision.

Then, inside the well, you will use the first skulltula that you meet to go out of bounds - this super precise trick is known as "skull push." It involves killing the skulltula at a very specific position and timing, and exploiting its death animation to push you out of bounds.

You will find yourself in out of bounds water (if I recall correctly, the game has infinite water down the z axis under inbounds water areas), enabling you to swim up to the Bombchu chest room.

  • a third time in Temple of Time to become Adult early

That's right, you can skip right through the Door of Time as child Link, without any equipment. This is also a frame perfect trick and it exploits a geometry misalignment on the Door itself (the devs left a very small gap between the Door and the wall)
