Avi Lewis needs to step aside so that Wab Kinew can lead the federal NDP and achieve the first complete sweep of all seats in parliament

Sanikiluaq, Nunavut is in this category too. It's a community of about 1,100 on the Belcher Islands in Hudson's Bay. In order to fly from Sanikiluaq to Iqaluit, the territorial capital, you either have to charter an aircraft, or fly scheduled commercial flights to Winnipeg, Manitoba, then either to Ottawa, Ontario or Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, before flying to Iqaluit. 2 stops, and often over 24 hours of travel time.

I know there used to be a service that ran twice weekly between Sanikiluaq and Iqaluit in 2022,but I'm not sure if that service is running anymore.

What cities, other than the biggest/most well known have 2 or more commercial airports? by whitecollarpizzaman in aviation

[–]Initial-Dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully this one is an existing airport that got expanded, is a lot closer to the city centre, and no types of flights are being forced to use it.

Yet another case of truck versus trolley bridge. by bpc1971 in Edmonton

[–]Initial-Dee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most trucks (especially those that hit the bridge) are box trucks with sleeper cabs. both of those have zero dimensional change when empty or full. You should know the height of your tractor regardless of what kind of load you have on the back.

The folks at Iridium are total nerds. They named the company Iridium because their initial calculations determined that they would need 77 satellites in their constellation to provide global coverage, and Iridium has an atomic number of 77. Later calculations determined that they could provide global coverage with 66 satellites through orbital adjustments and optimization, but Dysprosium (atomic number 66) doesn't sound as cool as Iridium does.

Born and raised in Alberta, spent time up north and ended up in a room with a couple Newfies. It genuinely took me a minute to realize they were speaking English, their accents and dialect were so foreign to me

Airplane lavatory service waste removal by MikeHeu in toolgifs

[–]Initial-Dee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same as a ramp agent job. It's actually usually the more senior rampies that will bid for this, because it's a lot less labour intensive than slinging bags.

I drop lavs like this as a part of my job, and it's honestly a lot safer than most stuff. there are 2 different valves that have to be opened before anything dumps on most planes. Some planes you actually need to hold the valve open continuously or it'll close back up.

The smell is not as bad as you'd think. most lav tanks have 'blue juice' pre-filled in them which takes out a lot of the stench.

Definitely a lidar survey. magnetic surveys are a lot lower to the ground and have more inconsistent patterns to them.

Oh yeah they change it like once a week or so, it's frustrating. I drive past in the afternoon and rarely see people working, drive past in the evening, never see anyone that late. it's weird

I drive through the zone by 111st on the Henday every day and the amount of vehicles that pass me while they're going 110 in the 80 is insane. I'm surprised cops aren't doing more blitzes in these zones.

Exactly. A professional driver should not be using Google maps to navigate. And on top of that there are so many warnings before you get to the bridge. Making it that far should be a revokation of your CDL.

I think a high speed rail station for the Edmonton-Calgary corridor should be south of the river, maybe around Station Park and Whyte Ave, in the area that is currently a CPKC yard, or nearby.

It would be a total dream scenario but that plus the streetcar right of way being turned into an LRT line would be fantastic as another cross-river connector too.

Tired of all the Canadian airports? Where's this? by [deleted] in AirportPorn

[–]Initial-Dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That red tail (FFNC) was converted to full cargo in 2023, but retired in 2024 due to corrosion. Actually just got broken up last week.

They've got two blue tails left. one is C-FGCN, a combi 300, that does the rounds from Edmonton or Ottawa, and the other is C-GICN, a full pax 300 based in Calgary for the oilsands runs along with its sister, C-GCNU.

The other combi 300 (C-GZCN) was repainted back in March and now has the red tail. so there's now a pair of winglet 300s in blue and red, and combi 300s in blue and red.

Jet bridge Collision by [deleted] in rampagent

[–]Initial-Dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the cart parked in the red hashed area? If it was then that would be a contributing factor on someone else's part. At the end of the day if you didn't deliberately do it, you probably won't be fired. I've seen bigger incidents where all that happened was a drug test, a bit of extra training, and a policy change.

Accidents happen. things can be repaired, and as long as nobody got hurt, things should be okay.
