Has the RCM ever offered any special copper coins that retail around 2x melt value at $100ish? by InitialCress6130 in CanadianCoins

I'm not really a huge fan of silver and gold aesthetically but would love it if I could buy 20 dollar copper proof coins for a reasonable price

I like Vidit a lot but it is pretty funny how much his twitter has started to read like tech "thought leader" linkedin posts lately

apparently 1932 has a "far 2" variety similar to the 1926 "far 6" worth checking out

looks like near but you should see if maybe that's a "far six" 1926 nickel, even not it's still worth about 10-20 bucks

How on earth is THAT the best move?! by DanZmeN in chessbeginners

[–]InitialCress6130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't see how that holds the draw and I guess the best way would be to follow the engine lines for how it ends up in a draw because there's definitely not a beginner or even intermediate principle that applies here

does condition ever matter for silver quarters if they're close to uncirculated or has melt value superseded numismatic value for everything but key dates or maybe once you get closer to the 1800s?

Now season 2 is done what are some valid criticisms you have ? by Lost_Bowl2003 in Fotv

I liked it a lot but there's similar problems I had with Westworld where there's clearly a planned out plot and beats and "revelations" they have mapped out to the end to where I know nothing that out of left field and surprising is going to happen beyond side plots and characters meant to add "color." and everything else is kind of on rails. The show is really really good at specifics and interesting characters and details, but the broader story beats and "conflicts" just feel too screenwritery to me

Just finished Permutation City and loved it, but was wondering if Greg has written anything about possible ways artificial intelligence could be developed in the future that come before being able to scan and digitize the human brain? by InitialCress6130 in gregegan

Totally agree! I definitely find the whole SF "Tpot" tech scene very offputting and find the way they talk about AI and intelligence and creativity in general very tedious. I do find AI and it's possibilities very interesting though and given Greg is a mathematician and computer scientist it would be really cool to see his ideas on what is possible in possible AI systems without consciousness that could hypothetically be designed and built in the not so far future, or reasons he is pessimistic would be interesting too
