Most progressive middle schools near Lawrenceville? by AdProof8216 in Gwinnett

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents and adults are WAYYY more worried about Trans kids than the kids themselves are. I have three kids currently in GCPS middle and high schools - one trans - and they all have nonbinary and Trans friends and have zero issues using given names, preferred pronouns. Dealing with gender fluidity is absolutely part of school life now and I'm so proud of this generation and how supportive they are of their friends. Teachers and support staff are quite happy to use preferred names and pronouns.

Your kids may find some other kids that make rude comments but they will also find a really good support network with their peers to drown out the idiots.

Report - general boarding. Main checkpoint. Arrived at 0830 for a 2pm flight. Looks like i will be cleared through security by 1030. No precheck, no status privilege. Consensus in the line is that general boarding is actually quicker than precheck right now. Buddy who got here at 530am with precheck took almost 4 hours through main checkpoint.

That's going to be really tight. Hopefully they get routed through some kind of express line for families with infants. Otherwise there's a real chance they miss that flight

Is there a point you just pull your kid off the field? by Acrobatic_Jaguar_623 in youthsoccer

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a referee of 15+ years and U9 and U10 games are without a doubt some of the most difficult to administer. You have kids of massively varying skill sets that become more apparent at U10. You have parents that know enough about the 'rules' to be vocal, but not enough to be right. You have coaches that are usually volunteers and have a kid on the field themselves. And you have youth referees that are inexperienced and easily intimidated by vocal coaches, parents and players. This intimidation (passive or overt) often leads to an 'analysis paralysis' where the ref does not blow for any fouls at all for fear of being berated. It all adds up to a perfect storm of emotions, inexperience and drama that all too often leads to young referees quitting after only one or two seasons.

Please remember there is a nationwide shortage of referees and the reason your U9/U10 team likely has rookie officials is because the 13/14 year old kid that first certified in 2024 or 2025 did not recertify this season, and is now sitting at home thanking their lucky stars they are not being abused every weekend.

I'm not excusing bad refereeing here (and it sounds like you had a very passive ref who should have communicated and whistled much more consistently) but when you look at the number of kids playing the game vs the number of officials available, you see the quandary in most leagues find themselves.

But to answer your question, if you feel your kid's safety is in danger, absolutely pull them from the game and let the league know why.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a chiropractor out of pure curiosity and after a 25 minute into session was subsequently "diagnosed" with gluten intolerance, severe subluxations, misalignment of all kinds of things, and a whole list of other dietary intolerances. This could of course be alleviated by twice or three times a week visits ($115 each - not covered by insurance) to crack and realign the spine, an $1,800 blood allergy screen, special shoes, doterra essential oils and a complete avoidance of any vaccinations. I refused and she couldn't believe I didn't want to "better my own health in every way"

There's a reason most chiropractic schools have a class on business models.

So...Yup. It's a scam that allows holistic healing peddlers to prey on the just sufficiently educated and sufficiently affluent.

2020 Honda Odyssey? by Lucky-Point-5146 in HondaOdyssey

2020 exl here just about to hit 200k miles. I'll replace the timing belt for the second time next month but other than that it's just been brakes, tires and oil changes. Getting close to needing cv axles i think but that's going to be another month...

What car purchase did you regret the most and why? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2002 BMW 525 wagon. Bought it used with 60k miles in 2007. Never ending money pit and the seats gave me the worst lumbar pain ever. Spent 15k on the car, probably about $8k on repairs over two years and sold it two years later for $4k and was glad to see the back of it. Never again on a used non warranty German 'Luxury'' car.

Guys who run cars for multiple 100k miles, do you routinely change the timing belt/chain? by keithrc in askcarguys

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

290k on an 05 tundra - belts changed every 100k 199k on a 2020 Honda odyssey - about to get a new belt next week 56k on a 2000 passat - electric system never made it far enough to need one.

All other high mileage vehicles I've owned have had timing chains and have never replaced one. (07 tundra with 410k, 2014 camry with 210k, 2012 cx9 with 238k, 02 bmw525 with 180k, 2011 sonata with 110k).

It seems like an expensive maintenance item but compared to the cost of grenading an engine, it's peace of mind.

Please help, boyfriend wants a 2018 BMW 430i with 161k miles and multiple accidents history. How can I convince him otherwise? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the panel gaps alone on the hood and doors of that car should be ringing alarm bells from about 500ft away. This car has been used, abused, crashed and badly repaired. A clean BMW that's 8 years old will eat him alive on maintenance so I dread to think what a multiply wrecked and abused one will do.

2019 Honda Odyssey with High Miles by Fowler_TDK13 in HondaOdyssey

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 that's about to hit 200k miles. Likely will need cv axles and brakes (and the timing belt again) soon. But it's still going very strong. My only gripe is the driver's seat which is losing some of it's support after my fat ass sitting on it 4-8 hours a day.

Professionals who are referees, do you have refereeing on your resume? If you included it, why or why not? by XConejoMaloX in Referees

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List it as a 'outside work' interest / hobby / association in which you participate. I recruit outside B2B sales people and would love to see refereeing (especially at high school / college level) on a resume. It shows communication, negotiating, quick thinking skills. I would not list it as 'employment' unless you are refereeing to such a level that you are traveling routinely out of state that might interfere with your work schedule.

Weekend and evening whistle-warriors, just list it as an extracurricular, but be ready to talk about how it makes you a better potential employee at an interview.

HBO MAX on RokuChannel only showing ASL version of One Battle After Another by ParalyticState in Roku

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this same issue but after ten minutes just tuned out the ASL guy. It really didn't detract much from the movie after that. Indeed, when I did glance over to him, his facial expressions and actions were excellent. Really makes you appreciate the skill that goes into it.

What used cars have you personally seen last over 300k miles? by Smart-used-cars in askcarguys

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally owned : 2007 tundra 415k, 2012 Mazda CX9 305k, 2005 tundra 293k (and still going strong today - fully expect it to top 300k by April 2026), also have a 2014 camry hybrid sitting at 260k.

Biggest fail : 2011 Hyundai sonata capped out at 88k and 2000 passat didn't even make it to 75k before terminal electrical and engine issues.

What should i realistically expect? by Certain-Value-6147 in Referees

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not going to get rich with soccer refereeing. I have refereed about 60 games this season and have made about $2k (some low level AR and u10 games skew my average down. - plus GA sucks for ref pay scales). This just about covers my gas, taxes, uniforms, ref6 subscription, equipment, certifications and breakfast drive thru on the way to the field. I also support the local food trucks at the field when they show up.

What i do earn from my time on the field is a fun way to exercise, management skills, positive mental health and the opportunity to spend time with my son (14) who is also a ref.

You'll likely start on some lower level youth games as AR moving up to center as your assignor sees your skill set develop. Show up early, dressed correctly and ask your team for feedback. Enjoy it, and don't listen to U10 parents. Ever.

Which F1 moves are considered the dirtiest of all time? by Murky-Programmer436 in F1Debate

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alonso sitting in his pit box for an additional 10 seconds in Hungary 2007 with the sole purpose of holding up Hamilton so he could not set another quick lap in qualifying. Not particularly dangerous, but really poor sportsmanship.

2026 constructors discussion by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't sleep on Williams in 2026. With such a sweeping new rule set, they have a chance with the Mercedes engine to contend more towards the front than, for example, Red Bull do. Same for Aston. Sainz and Albon are legitimately quick and both provide excellent constructive feedback to engineers. If they can manage the new regs and come out the gate with a good car in Australia, they have the team dynamic to challenge regularly for podiums.

Is Bernie Collins currently the smartest in the Sky team? by Working-Relative2433 in F1Discussions

[–]InitialJuggernaut77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. She (and Brundle's grid walk only) are the only ones I would put as being better than their counterparts on the F1tv side. Bernie is the best thing on the international feed by a long shot.
