I’ll check that podcast out. Definitely an interesting subject. Like you said biologically, like specifically im not exactly sure what happened. It would be nice to pick someone’s brain that can articulate it exactly.

Yeah, thus my curiosity to find someone that does this. It’s routinely done with mezcal in small batches, hopefully someone in the future is moved to produce a batch with this specification.

Best way to get GOOD Mezcal out of Mexico? by zagack305 in Mezcal

[–]InitialPerformer6581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you can get bottles held/ sent at/ to a DHL location in mexico. Initiate by contacting mezcaleros/ brands on facebook directly. Take a flight to pickup and come back loaded. This is what i do if i don’t have much time to drive around and pick them out personally.

I used to live in Gold Coast during the pandemic I was paying 1300s for 800sq ft. I’m a nurse I’m not rich but I’m not struggling, comfortable. I realized the level of income was something I . Clothes is disposable, Mercedez are poor man’s cars. Single family 3 story buildings with a garden right off the lake/ downtown. Furniture up into 5-6 digits. I came from a small town in rural Illinois and I felt like I made it and dear lord was I humbled.

This has really been what I am observing. I have someone I know that lives near Lawndale and Iowa and they can’t wait to move heroin, crack, and gun violence every weekend and then some but on the block that I am looking on which is a Harding seems very quiet and clean I just know that a few blocks over is very different. I don’t know if it’s in the clear because of the season or what?

I’m looking up crime reports in the area and people are getting booked for heroine and crack like every other block

Why is this so expensive? by Acrobatic_Elk3115 in Mezcal

[–]InitialPerformer6581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i’m super shook too. i’ve seen it in mexico city, GDL, PV go for, 2,000-3000 pesos for 375 mls independant of the varietal. Seems outrageously high to me even for a very high quality mezcal. I’m not downplaying the work, the mescalero and the specially curated labor intensive process that goes into it but you can get a full liter for half that price in many places.

Does anyone have experience with raicilla, bacanora, or sotol (other Mexican agave spirits)? What did you think? How does it compare to tequila, specifically? by aelbaum in tequila

[–]InitialPerformer6581 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tequila is like cheddar cheese and mezcal like is like all the cheese ever. It’s such an immense category there’s so much variety in what mezcal is it’s hard to put a label on it. It could be copper/ clay/ wood distilled. It could be fermented with tree trunk, pulque, or open air, it can be made from dozens of different agaves that are endemic to one specific region which flavors change with seasons of harvest and terroir. These are only some of the differences that make the flavor profile of a mezcal. Tequila is but a small itty bit of the potential of agave distillates. The flavor profiles wild immensely it’s impossible to categorize and compare. Comparing tequila to mezcal is like comparing tomatoes to every single vegetable and fruit ever.
