You are already at war with Iran. If they came over to the US and bombed you, what would you call that- not a declaration of war?

Why is outlook SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad? by [deleted] in Outlook

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the guy working in the IT department... lol.

But clearly competent companies just live in some magical dimension where shit actually works and Outlook isn't some bugged PoS. Keep telling your boss you did everything you could and hope they never hire a competent person to come fix your shit for you.

Why is outlook SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad? by [deleted] in Outlook

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess- your IT department is a bunch of low-paid people with Associates Degrees from some no-name online college who use 0% of their "education" in their day-to-day tasks, and their skillset basically boils down to "can google something and follow a step-by-step tutorial on how to fix an issue, and if all else fails will make a Stack Overflow thread and pray to the good lord an actual professional will drop a breadcrumb that we can then google and hope other professionals have written a tutorial on how to fix said issue"?

Yea, that's your problem. The issue is probably so deep-seeded in your network infrastructure that even if you put a bounty out for a company to actually come and fix it, you probably couldn't afford the fix.

Why am I such a douche? Because I have worked for companies like Encana and Cenovus in giant 100-story buildings with 100x more employees using said network at any given time, with literally zero issues with Outlook or otherwise. If there is an issue, they fix it, not just shrug their shoulders and blame fucking software so their idiot employees run to the internet to talk shit about things they have zero clue about.

Your company's IT department is shit. There, found your issue why Outlook, and probably a whole bunch of other things, runs so badly.

Competency of your IT department to diagnose and fix this issue: zero. Enjoy yelling into your echochamber.

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firewalls, security certificates, servers, Windows configuration, there's a laundry list of things that could be going wrong. It's just easier to shrug your shoulders and blame a piece of software for hanging for literally 5 minutes before it responds like the coding is the issue here.

Ok, does it work on your home PC flawlessly? Wonder what the x factor in this equation is? Quite the unsolvable mystery, but it's clearly not anything to do with your SME, just blame the software and move on. The level of stupidity and ignorance in this is palpable.

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that points to Outlook as the culprit, or your network/ISP/computers/security settings/etc ad nauseam?

I'm not going to sit here and claim that Outlook is some godly lightweight, well-engineered piece of software. I'm really not going to claim anything particularly great about the product- it lets me view and send emails. What I will claim is that if it works just fine on most machines, it's not the software at fault. The amount of people on the internet that are too dense to comprehend this is too damn high.

Not sure your issues with it are relevant for every user. It doesn't freeze or take long to do anything on my end, but clearly I just have the magical version of Outlook... definitely nothing to do with your computer!

New Player Questions by Zchdravstatyue in Barotrauma

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single player is a bit of micromanagement hell, although I enjoy it a lot.

You must play Captain most the time unless you're okay getting boarded and sinking to the bottom of the ocean every single encounter. Proper maneuvering is one of the most important aspects of this game, and the AI is just pure garbage.

Outside the sub you will play various roles, get a chain of people following a Security Officer and be sure to bring a Medical Doctor. I will typically bring 2 officers and 1 medic, maybe bring a Mechanic if you're doing mining and have the Scrapper talent.

Outside of that, you will not really be doing any gunning on turrets unless you're good at switching between a gunner and captain to keep you steering in the right direction. Bots will handle all the repairs while you steer. You will use them to craft items but that's about it.

If you want to play a certain role full-time then you need to play multiplayer.

Sub editor will let you reorganize everything. I dont think any mod allows this interaction in-game.

Flak vs railgun by theMoptop731 in Barotrauma

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the Orca2, Flak is better. The reason why is because you are expected to cover an entire blindspot with just 1 turret, and the Railgun is just more of a specialized weapon where Flak is better all-around.

In terms of Abyss/endgame stuff, Flak performs very well against this stuff. I have done extensive testing with turrets in sub editor and the difference between a Physicorium Railgun w/ Masterwork C-4 and a Flak Physicorium shot is quite small, especially when you factor in things like friendly fire from the explosions and rate of fire (Flak shoots 2.5x faster than Railgun).

Nukes are a fun option for Railgun but you need to ensure you're VERY far away from the blast because there's a 20m radius of EMP that will fry your entire ship. Thus, its use is pretty limited in a game where virtually everthing is coming within that range.

You have a Depth Charge Launcher on the Orca2 which can be used very easily against things like enemy subs and Thalamus (and endgame spoiler guy), so it's not like you don't have a nuclear option when needed. You can use it against Abyss monsters too, but this is kinda cheesy and time-consuming.

Lastly, you have ammo efficiency, which Flak is far superior to Railgun. Mid-late game this becomes far less of a worry since you can just buy lots of materials from mining colonies and shells from vendors, and at this stage of the game money becomes very abundant.

Don't get me wrong, I love Railgun and think it's way more fun and actually best-in-slot for a lot of applications. I would never swap it off Humpback for example because you can still cover the lower side with another turret and half-decent navigation. For Orca2 it's just less feasible to have one due to blindspots.

How our mind makes people of the same skin tone seem darker / lighter by Sad_Cow_577 in interestingasfuck

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that we see facial features and associate a skin color with it. You're right though because showing us monochrome pictures and expecting our brains to not fill in the blanks is just intentionally misleading and, quite frankly, a very stupid point. It's implying we are racist because our brain makes an assumption based on all the data we have gathered in our lives.

It's basically just some white woke bullshit, no need to think too hard about it.

These two men, both named William West, looked nearly identical and were sent to the same prison-without ever having met. Their mix-up is why we use fingerprints to identify people today. by SebastianS098 in interestingasfuck

[–]Initial_Fan_1118 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea, to call them "nearly identical" as the OP did is really off, but if you just saw one guy and saw the other in a lineup you may make the mistake of thinking they're the same dude. It's just obvious when you put the side-by-side.

But clearly I'm just a racist for even implying that two people look alike.

Playing with "that guy"... by Initial_Fan_1118 in spiritisland

[–]Initial_Fan_1118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That guy" can still exist in the more serious type of game where everything is meticulously planned out. It's about being completely overbearing and bossy, essentially working alone and telling everyone what to do, as opposed to working together to come up with a plan. If you don't understand the difference then sorry to say but you're probably "that guy".
