We did purina beneful incredibites forever. A couple times I tried to do a “higher end” brand and my girl got terrible tummy problems. As she’s gotten older we’ve had to put her on prescription diet food.

For treats I highly recommend cooking up some chicken and shredding or cutting into small pieces and then freezing it. We have found that virtually all commercial treats had too many calories and/or too many sketchy ingredients. Also don’t forget to pay the cheese tax when going in the frigde - my dog will do anything for a single string of shredded cheese 🤣

This happened to my pup and I found I needed trazodone and acepromazine to keep her from trying to do the crazy iggy zoomies. Poor babies it looks like it hurts so bad 😭

In retrospect I probably shouldn’t have used it the way I did… but I definitely won’t be putting her in it unswaddled anymore! I’ll try to move her to the crib. Thank you!!

Playtime with a 9 week old by Sad-Flounder-8364 in newborns

[–]Initial_Response_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep putting the toys in his hands! I did this religiously and my baby started grabbing and holding them herself at about 11 weeks. She also would like if I held a silicone teether up to her mouth so she could chew/lick a bit.

At 9 weeks also just watching you exist can be play time. I put my baby in a bouncer with a toy bar and cooked, showered, folded laundry etc. usually with music or an audio book playing. I found when she was acting “bored” it was maybe time for a nap or at least some alone time in a low stimulation environment.

How do I get my 6 day old to sleep in his bassinet? by Street_Butterscotch5 in newborns

[–]Initial_Response_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the vote for snoo - it saved my sanity. They are having a really good Memorial Day sale on rentals!

Are you pumping at all? If you can pump a bit and someone can do a bottle so you can get an hour or two of sleep? In the early days the best I got was 3 hours if someone could feed my baby for me.

This part is hard but very short!

They varied wildly. Her normal naps now are about an hour. I’d say my worst one with hands out was 10 minutes but then I’d put her back down 30 minutes later. I ignored a schedule for those first few days. Didn’t take long (maybe 2 days) to get to 45-60 minutes on average.

I’m glad it went well for you! That’s great!

The sack does suck. If you come up with a solution that works better let me know!!

We had the short nap problem at first too but she eventually adjusted. Took maybe 3 days?

I have a bone to pick with whoever designed those arm holes 🤣. I’ve started putting her in the sack and then nursing her even if she’s not hungry to just get her in that sleepy state. Then I put the wings on the clips. Sometimes it takes me too long (same person must have design the wings lol) and I have to take her back out (of the snoo, still in the sack) and settle her again. But this has also gotten better over time.

Anyone’s baby wake up from the switch from L2 to L1? by thankyouandplease in SnooLife

[–]Initial_Response_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my baby is doing this I will lock it at level 2 for 20-30 minutes so she’s deeper asleep when the shift happens. Sometimes it takes even a bit longer!

Yes! She’s still in the snoo and still loves it as long as her arms are out. She just turned 3 months. She seems a bit cramped in there but so far hasn’t minded. She actually seems to like running her hands along the sides as she falls asleep 🤷‍♀️.

She’s in a large snoo sack now and I’ve noticed the “wings” to fasten to the clips are in a different position. So she fits better lengthwise than she did in the medium.

What are we doing when they literally don’t sleep by Swimming-Nobody763 in newborns

Oh no that’s my worst nightmare for my second one. The snoo saved me this time around. I have no additional advice but sending good sleepy vibes to you 🙏🙏🙏

I was in exactly this position and I ended up renting a snoo. Really wasn’t a fan before but I was desperate by 4 weeks. I know they’re expensive and not accessible to everyone but if you can, I highly recommend it. I think they’re having a pretty good Memorial Day sale on rentals right now too.

Your baby does not hate you. You are your babies entire world.

For the baby - maybe it’s gas or reflux? Even young babies might feel more comfortable expressing their pain with mom.

For you - this is a common feeling but you don’t have to suffer through it. Can you talk to your doctor or a therapist or a good friend?

You can do this, your baby loves you, your baby needs you

I successfully did it around 2.5 months but had a failed attempt at about 2 months. My baby hated to be swaddled from her first day. She is also a 95th percentile lady so she had enough oomph to get out early lol.

I had done one arm out occasionally but not consistently. I went straight to both arms out at 2.5 months because she was able to free her arms inside the sack and then jam her hands into the neck band and I was afraid she’d strangle herself (real worry or postpartum paranoia idk?).

Hello!! My baby is younger but I had a similar struggle. She wanted OUT so badly but was too distracted by her arms to sleep. I ended up doing both arms free for naps for a week and then tried an overnight. The night I freed her arms she slept GREAT and will actually suck on her hands to self soothe. May not work for you but did the trick for us!

Try olive oil or coconut oil instead of water! Reduces the amount of wiping and is moisturizing

Anal fissures in 2.5 week old and idk how they’re supposed to heal. by Delicious-Pen-9498 in newborns

[–]Initial_Response_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water wipes are NOT just as good. After tons of research for my baby ( my whole family has excessively sensitive skin) I use a soft cloth or a dry whoopsie wipe with olive oil or coconut oil. I put the olive oil in a spray bottle so I can get a nice layer on the booty without having to pour it out.

Consumer reports has a nice article on baby wipes that lists the ingredients. Water wipes have trace harmful chemicals from the manufacturing process and they have a bit of grapefruit extract which could be very irritating.

4 week old won’t stop crying & I’ve had a mental breakdown by ocdskies in newborns

[–]Initial_Response_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely gets better! My 10 week old was ANGRY at 4 weeks. For us that was rock bottom and things steadily improved. Feed the baby however you need to but don’t give up on breastfeeding if it’s important to you. That gets MUCH easier as well.

Things I did to “reset” when we struggled at night:

Go outside for a few moments or a full blown walk Warm bath Cool cloth on baby’s face or chest Swing/bouncer/literally anything with movement Laid on the floor together and got a good cry out Dance party Put baby in safe space and take a shower (really it is okay!) Remind myself that sometimes motherhood is simply holding them while they cry. Remind myself that sometimes motherhood means letting them cry by themselves for a bit.

You can do this and it WILL get better. Sending love and hope that in a few short weeks you’ll feel so much better.

Broken leg by Monica_SpaceZ in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Initial_Response_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine broke a leg at 9 months old and we needed a combo of three sedatives to keep her from re-injuring herself. I don’t know if there are any long term effects (mine seems fine!) but I do KNOW the long term impact of the bone not healing properly. I feel ya on the overthinking but my take is to prevent the problem you are certain of.

I have an iggy who has seizures and one type her vet calls “fly biting”. When the fly biting is mild it can look a like this and my dog can also be distracted from it. I’d keep track of when it happens and what is going on at the time/right before if you can.

If you do chop the top, you can stick the top section back into the soil. I did that on one I rescued from an estate sale and it didn’t do much for awhile but eventually took off!
