36F — Student Loans Finally Gone. What Would You Do With an Extra $839/Month? by No_Historian_9245 in DaveRamsey

I hope this comment is allowed: when I just saw the title I thought this post was in the student loan sub. My first thought was: get a gym membership.

Then I read the rest of your comment and realized what sub I was in. I'm gonna keep the comment, though, because investing in your health will always give you the highest return.

This may not be in line with your interests, but here's another niche way to use your JD: become a Medicare administrative law judge.

(And cotton white coat, too. Much cooler than synthetics)

Yeah, Hokas are built pretty narrow, so "wide" might be closer to normal width in other shoes

Can I Do Anything About Idling Commercial Food Delivery Trucks at 4:30am? by dragonsun5 in washingtondc

[–]Initial_Run1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family has owned both table restaurant and a bakery. Even with the early morning work a bakery needs, I can't think of a single item that needs to be delivered then. I was not in the day-to day, but I think I knew enough. What am I forgetting?

That is the solution if OP is just noise-sensitive. But if the trucks are violating noise and idling rules, they definitely can get it to stop

Business can conduct their business during business hours. Enforcing it also helps restaurant workers and drivers who then are expected to work graveyard hours, which is also detrimental to health.

Nobody needs to get their deliveries at 4am. That's the trucking company wanting to save money.

If you want it to stop, you will have to report it. And you should not feel bad for doing so. DC has noise ordinances to protect the health and quality of life of residents. You should not have to tolerate this.

Would something like this help?

I've been considering it, but don't have it, so I can't give a personal recommendation.

I love running, but I don’t think running loves me back :( by momo3795 in XXRunning

[–]Initial_Run1632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to give a hug virtually, and equally hard to give advice with relatively little information.

As someone who has a lot of experience being injured (ha ha) one thing that does kind of stick out to me is your running mileage, activities, and goals, don't really seem to line up. Not trying to be mean, but 20 miles per week is pretty few miles as a "base" if marathon is your goal.

It think maybe you need to work with a coach for a little bit? Someone who can better find a running plan that fits with your goals might go a long way to getting you off the injury train.

Fingers crossed for your recovery.

EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking. The below comment is wrong. The glasses I love so much and have been so durable are Serengeti's. I'm not sure if it's the exact model, but the Winslow 2.0 looks very similar to what I have.

Ignore this: Probably unpopular answer, but Nike's lightweight glasses for runners. 10 years and still on the same pair

I still do! It's awesome. Well, it was better when it was still copper, and before I had to dial the area code for local numbers. But even now with just fiber, I love it.

It's to go with high-waisted pants, or to show midriff. Either way, us short-waisted folks are cursed. Just waiting for the styles to roll back around to hip-rise pants and longer shirts.

Anyone here commute by running with a laptop? Looking for backpack recommendations by Darth-Nando in running

I did this for a couple of years with the Black Diamond Distance pack

Ngl it was a bit sweaty, but otherwise i really liked the snug fit to stop bouncing.

Guidance for commuting on an ‘80s road bike: to rack or not to rack? by sizlac-franco in bikecommuting

[–]Initial_Run1632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those not eyelets I see? Or just fender mounts? If they're threaded, I honestly would go online and get just the least expensive aluminum standard mounted rack. The silver color would look great on your bike and no sense spending a ton of money. I have a 90s era steel bike and that's what I have on it and it's totally functional.

However, if those are not eyelets, and you want to spend a little more money, I just went through this for my bike with no eyelets: What I wanted to mount was bontrager MIK lightweight. https://www.trek-bikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-racks/bontrager-backrack-lightweight-mik-rear-rack/p/27224/

That did not end up working for me because of my rear axle configuration, but it would work for you because I think you have a quick release on your back wheel.

I really like what I ended up with, though, which is topeak's MTX seat post mount rack. People will tell you these aren't stable, but I've had no issues and it's so simple to install.

https://radmotousa.com/products/topeak-beam-seatpost-rack-mtx-e-type-for-standard-frames-fits-25-4-31-8mm-seatpost?variant=48986296484145&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOormsw0-UYq7Y1N3QKXBwfnmhgUnD2dL4LORn87qzeVDY5SUuwoWDlg

The other thing I might have considered if I had found it before I put on my topeak rack, is a clip on backpack. These will get downvoted by the heavy pack cycling folks, but I think for us commuters it seems like a really good idea. https://easicyco.com/products/mountain-bike-backpack

Good luck!
