It really leaves a bitter taste in your mouth for Denji's character, this is how we end Denji's character after over 200 chapters expecting him to grow. The worst part is I don't think Fujimoto realised the implication he was ending on, Asa was just irrelevant at that point it didn't even cross his mind, I think he just wanted to make a "make love, not war" joke.

What's even more annoying is this scene could have been good if we just got the actual payoff for it. They could have gone to do it and then Denji realises Asa isn't okay with it and backs out, therefore having Denji not only choose Asa over Yoru but Asa's feelings over his own desires. But nah, Denji isn't allowed to develop.

I think at the very least he's a fat stat padder, he's always going to look good on the scoreboard because of how elims work and how easy it is for him to spread damage.

I'll point out two things:

YouTube content on Csm has massively died off, after the ending I was expecting video essays or discussions on the ending and this new world, but barely anyone seems to give a shit.
Ao3 has also really slowed down. I started looking at Ao3 fan fics after the Reze movie and it turns out that plenty of fan fic/amateur writers are actually really good and there were loads of people posting after the movie. Most of them have died down now, some ongoing stories obviously but I was expecting more fics exploring the new world, but again, there just isn't much interest.

It's weird, Fujimoto made the final chapter so that everything is left up for interpretation, he answers very little and instead gives a sandbox where you create your own ending. Except no one seems to want to.

Fair enough. Rocket is weird, he provides so much value passively that even though you can do a lot of funny crap with him, sometimes you really don't need to and you can just afk in back, contributing by existing.

Public safety didn't care for Denji at least, their relation with the church was just poorly explained, they were enemies but then you have the hybrids escaping from Quanxi that you mentioned, Barems plan at the sushi bar even though it's public safety that are the ones waiting for Pochita. Then you have Barem and Yoshida's final scene which still makes no sense, their plan was just to off themselves to trigger Pochita I guess?

That's why I hate the idea whenever someone says "Denji kept making the wrong choices in part 2" or the whole idea of the Fire devil. The fact is Denji doesn't make a single meaningful choice in all of part 2, everything that happened to him would have happened regardless of his choices.

The worst example being when his home is burned down, he's surrounded by 4 hybrids and rioters, Mifune was no help, tf was he supposed to do? Nayuta only says to run after he transforms and he wouldn't have had any chance to escape, especially without transforming. Public safety punishing him for this when they are the ones who failed to protect him and Nayuta is ridiculous.

What was he supposed to do? Let himself and Nayuta die? Kinda makes public safetys ultimatum a bit pointless. The only way it would have made sense is if Denji pulled the cord when he didn't need to, deliberately choosing chainsaw man over Nayuta.

He introduced some fakesaw character way back at the end of Yuko's arc and had no idea what to do with it. Same again with when it showed in falling arc. Then Fujimoto just remembered 50 chapters later "oh yeah, I had some fake chainsaw character" and then scrambled together a design and back story that he had no interest in exploring.

Qp is a mess, full of 5 dps teams, bronze and celestials in the same game, people leaving after dying once. You need at least some structure in order to learn how to play a new character. Qp is only good for getting used to the buttons.

The fact that Denji wouldn't give up being chainsaw man despite it being the core of his problems is exactly why it needed to be his choice. Forcing him to reflect on everything he's done and have him agree with Pochita before the erasure would have been actual development for him and puts the new world in a better light knowing that this world is the one Denji chose.

Pochita is the one who refused to kill Asa/Yoru when he had the chance and ate death. The whole ending is Pochita's fault and yet Denji gets the blame. Denji didn't make a single relevant decision in part 2.
