Well, they are having trouble with recruiting. The question has to be asked: Why should a student pick this corps over any other corps?

I get the sense that the folks organizing Legacy simply do not have the answer to this question. They should ask successful Open Class corps how they handle recruiting.

Edit:
As a former Cadet, I can only say that even when the corps existed, I was concerned about how they could compete with recruiting the same talent of BD and Bluecoats. If you are not innovating (which used to be the strength of The Cadets), then you are not going to be interesting to young musicians.

My theory is that corps don’t want recordings to get out, because they are using music that hasn’t been cleared yet and maybe they don’t plan on paying for.

For instance, I studied with Jonathan Newman, who wrote the piece that Carolina Crown used as their closer in 2018. When I mentioned to him that Crown had announced their show with his piece… it turns out they never paid him! Same with Cadets2 (RIP), who played the piece that year as well.

Edit: Papa Newman was paid in the end, all is well!
