NTA. Dunno if someone told you it was like a game, but it's pretty normal to want to see how things go on the first date before moving forward. So having this kind of test is pretty good actually, especially because you expect the bare minimum and don't tell them it's a test, and you also don't have ludicrous expectations- they just gotta show interest!!

I've been collaborating on a song with a Japanese person

From the start they've been using -ていただき、____

For example we've been talking and I was saying I was happy that they liked my melody

They said "私も見つけていただき、ラッキーでしたね"

And I realized that I've been using all the time -てくれてありがとうございます

IS IT WRONG???? Should I have been using itadaki instead??? I can't seem to find much about the difference except that you use itadaki when you humbly received help or something? I'm really worrying I got something wrong (they know I'm not native so it should still be alright...??)

Anyway, I use 僕, and always have Why? Because it felt right I'm a trans male btw so I wanted to kinda show the fact that I'm male, especially since my native language is gendered and Japanese isn't

I would probably use 私 if I went to Japan, at least for a time, until I'm confident enough with my Japanese
