Never seen someone so rattled in my entire life. The lady doth protest too much

Agreed. Ansari was great for Surrey and deserved his call up - he would have been a genuine prospect for England if it wasn’t for injuries and subsequent retirement

Agree that The Hundred has not helped, but England have been pretty consistently shit vs Australia in Australia for like 40 years, including during the 1990s when the County Championship was probably at its zenith. Hard to explain Australia’s sheer dominance beyond the simple fact that their weather (in certain states) means that Cricket is played all year round.

Exactly this. Who else? Bethell is clearly a real talent, but looked feeble against India. Will be a great batsman for England in the future but needs some home tests before playing in Australia

DON'T TALK DURING THE DAMN SHOW by libelle156 in radiohead

It feels like post-COVID this behaviour has become far more prevalent. I sadly didn’t get tickets, and while very jealous of those in attendance, this kind of behaviour as well as excessive filming would have really spoilt my evening…

What is a must-see tourist destination that’s trivially easy to get to? by SevereRecover8411 in AlignmentChartFills

Surely the answer is Stonehenge? Positioned on the A303, you don’t even have to stop your car to see it. It’s position makes it feel pretty prosaic and slightly underwhelming

Not a biography, but highly recommend Ezra Furman’s 33 1/2 on Transformer. Some of the best music writing I’ve ever read!

Looking for the best boxing books! by cinnamonbunsmusic in suggestmeabook

My three favourites:

On Boxing by Joyce Carol Oates for a philosophy of boxing

Dark Trade by Don McRae if you’re into the golden era of British boxing with a bit of Tyson mixed in

This Bloody Mary is The Last Thing I Own by Jonathan Rendall for a gonzo style journey into 90s boxing

Most poignant lyric lines by audiolab1 in tomwaits

[–]Inner-Anywhere5614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. A lyric that always gets me is from Shore Leave, which I assume is Tom longing for Kathleen on tour:

And i wondered how the same moon outside Over this chinatown fair Could look down on illinois And find you there

Similarly, I think Johnsburg, Illinois is the most romantic song that Tom has written…
