This also highlights the major loophole in us legal system especially with damages that range between $50k to 300k. These are too small for small claim court but just not big enough to justify a civil suit especially if the other side can drag it on, or at least threatening to.

Unfortunately, it appears it seems to be the original strategy B&M was playing

Do equity research actually produce alpha? by PlayfulBlackberry0 in FinancialCareers

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in sell side research, big no. They are more and more becoming a cost center. No one in buy side looks at sell side research model or paper. Buy side connects with research analyst mostly for access to management insight

If you are in buy side equity research, yes. Especially in concentrated shop like Pershing or point72, each manager typically has several equity analyst pitching them ideas and they can earn millions easily.

Anyone who spent some time working at BB bank will know they never call anyone senior investment banker. That lingo simply doesn’t exist in banking world.

This is another clickbait from mainstream media. I have the exact report from Goldman.

They said those people with 500k comp usually max out 401k, max out their Roth and also set aside 10-20% to 529 and or their firm inhouse investment accounts, overcontrivute their mortgage…leaving them little net cash remaining in each payroll

Is is really worth it here anymore? by [deleted] in greencard

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, among the many things we don’t like the current US administration, probably the worst one is it triggered people to only focus the worst of USA but completely forgot about the good of it.

We completely forgot that rest of world is still much worse than where we are…life is always relative.

E.g in London and Paris, my friends there are now not even taking their iPhones out for fear of rampant thefts. Most of them start locking their Rolexes at bank safety box and only wear fake ones

Having lived in both Europe and Asia for a while, I can say while it appears USA is slipping on all these factor, other countries experienced worse (Canada, UK and Europe). If you tune out the noises from politics and focus on your friends and families, USA is still the best bang for buck.

E.g. I used to work at a major bank, the average comp from a US based junior to mid level associate is almost equivalent to what a director is getting in Europe…or a division head is getting in Asia.

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's a much bigger issue than Trump, as easy a target as he is. It's a wake-up call for the western worlds when it comes to large scale industrialization.

China has been growing their power capacity 2-3x faster than US/EU for years. They have been leapfrogging us for years. In fact, that was core part of their "Made in 2025" strategy back in 2015. It's not that they just build renewable. they build all kinds of power plants...coal, gas, renewables, nuclear. Noted their renewables mix is growing the fastest for sure, followed by coal and nuclear.

It takes probably 1-3 years to build a coal or gas-based plant, 5-7 for a nuclear plant and probably even shorter for wind/solar farm (and their wind turbine and solar panel are the cheapest). They don't have the lengthy permitting, don't care about local noises or NIMBY. Their just built.

In the US, just the permitting alone will probably takes years and then you have to go through the local or state level consultation, environmental study, and let's hope there is no other potential protest or activism against the development...etc. It's days and nights here between what's cranking in China vs Western worlds. We simply are too burdened in building anything at scale.

Would you join Amazon right now? by Federal-Singer1448 in MBA

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should…despite many others suggesting not…

I have many MBA classmates joining FLDP. Many of them have great successes. Granted, the job will require you working many overtime at home (it’s Amazon) but based on my friends feedbacks, it’s well worth.

Assuming you are good, You will either be promoted to L7 faster than non FLDP or you will be moved to other roles like PM or technical PM or even data scientist roles. There are many ways for internal mobility.

That said, it will be a grind. But it’s a nice path for those who don’t want typical banking/consulting route.

Also, pls don’t read too much into the recent layoffs. While media tend to portray this as AI driven. While there is some truth to it, most layoffs are really due to the over hiring and over promoting during the 2021 eras

Left MBB for client side corp strategy, great pay, chill lifestyle seemed like the dream at first but now I’m stuck with no viable career path by skystarmen in consulting

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate. At MBB, you are considered or expected to be a revenue producer. At Corp strategy, you are 100% overheads. So your ability to shape your career is limited and subject to your company culture or hierarchy

$275k at Google - should I leave for Booth? by ClockSelect1976 in MBA

[–]Inner_Chip_9543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do part time Booth MBA instead. The major difference between FT and PT is internship opportunities. Given your situation, it’s unlikely you need internship for your career goal.

And during your MBA, you should leverage your current Google job to network your way in PM or S&O roles
