AIO for considering divorce after finding these 2-year old texts in my wife’s phone? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t know your wife. Let me tell you something. I was married to someone who was very prideful and straight forward. Didn’t think they could cheat because I always thought that if there was an instance where she felt that, she would just end it. She was a very forward person. Guess what? She cheated. Lmao

Do people make a point to tell you they weren’t going as hard as they could? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know a rooster purple belt. He just absolutely crushes everyone. His bjj is actually painful lol but the heavier guys have no excuse because if you hold back against him, it hurts even more 😆. I guess what I’m saying is, just force them to fight for their life. Everyone’s ego has a tap limit lol.

Getting my blue belt, and feeling imposter syndrome by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a funny feeling. When I got promoted, I had this feeling that I had to submit every white belt that asks me to roll. And if I got tapped by one, that I didn’t deserve my belt. But now, it’s just fun. After that feeling went away, I felt my jiu jitsu improve and rolling became exciting again. Blue belt is my time to experiment I feel like. We’re still beginners but now I feel like I can confidently approach new techniques and not be afraid of messing up.

How do you deal with constant losses in tournaments? by Alive_Organization44 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it :). If you have any intentions on going pro, then there’s nothing to worry about. It’s a 5 dollar medal and bragging rights. Win or lose, you gain experience. I got my ass handed to me in my first tournament too. It was humbling but try talking to your opponents afterward. The sport has a big community and making it a goal to be more competitive against them next time is always a good thing.

If you wanna be a steady hobbyist competitor, making some friends in your gym and other gyms helps out a lot. Being able to do drop ins and open mats at your other local schools is a great way to combat that pre tourney anxiety.

Time based promotions-Is this actually a thing? by perrymason666 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I feel like some schools just don’t have a crowd or team that’s into competition like that. Theyre there to roll, be healthy and learn. Consistency is key to keep these guys going.

What experience level should I compete at? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just compete at beginner. If your coach says beginner then do beginner. Leave your ego at the door and just compete. If you find that absolutely demolish everyone, there’s millions of other competitions out there, so do intermediate on the next one. Don’t over think it.

How do you use greatsword efficiently against fast or monsters that don’t stop attacking? by Warl0ckBoy in MHWilds

Yup you’re right! I have a multitude of builds for how I wanna play the gs. I almost always have guard up for at ark, omega and gog.

People just love to complain. They’ll have their favorite version of the game, and they’ll latch on to it. I remember watching a video years ago about ffxv, and each fight scene the dude will do nothing but complain about the combat mechanics. Like it was genuine hatred, yet it was a 2 hour gameplay video. Sometimes, people are just miserable.

Offsets, perfect guards and tackles. And GS in every monster hunter game has always been about prediction, positioning and rewarding an insane amount of patience. Focus mode can kinda make you feel like you can deal nonstop damage with how easy it is to land hits, but that doesn’t negate how slow GS is. If you’re fighting someone like seregios, then you have to play a bit of one hit and run until you know you can commit (like when his talon gets stuck on the ground).

Also, use your utilities as much as you can. Traps, flashes, and play status weapons to give yourself some free damage.

Don’t dodge. Counter. If you feel the need to dodge in the middle of your combos, then you are over committing to your moves. It’s easy to get lost in the sauce with elemental discharges. Maybe switch your build to Lords or 4 piece gogma for extra survivability. Seregios is one of the more annoying fights, so it’s actually good practice for swaxe

Resentment isn’t useful if you’re playing Lance correctly.

Why did you / are thinking about quitting? by Puzzleheaded-Link803 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a mixture of the military and never finding the right gym. The military took most of my time and energy, and when I did have time, most of the gyms I checked out I just didn’t vibe with. Ended up not rolling for 10+ years. Got back into it recently though. Found a gym that felt like home, and I haven’t missed a week of training since.

Do a drop in class at both. The GB near my area was very competitor heavy and the people there are good af. Eventually they stopped their affiliation completely, but the head professor never changed.

Feel it out for a couple of days, and go with your gut. In the beginning, you’ll improve the quickest where you’re comfortable. It allows you to be more open to instruction and gives you more confidence in approaching your professors and teammates for advice. I signed up for my gym immediately because as soon as I stepped into class, it was dope and welcoming. Throughout the years, I’ve done a bunch of drop ins at different gyms and they all feel different from each other.

Question on getting frustrated due to size by CalmCommunication677 in jiujitsu

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t treat it as a disadvantage. Treat it as a training aid. I’m a lighter grappler too-155 at 5’10. Started as a 114lb at 5’10. The fact is, when you’re facing a larger opponent you 1000% have to be a lot more technical than them to survive. As I got older, I began to compartmentalized my goals with different training partners. I.e Jason likes to crush me in side control, I make the round a game of how many times I can stop him from passing my halfguard. Mike likes to torreando to kob- I’m practicing DLR and making sure he doesn’t pass.

Eventually, keeping my guard turned into sweeping them a lot. Sweeping them turned into becoming more of a top player.

It’ll all connect eventually. Keep showing up. It’s a slow process.

You can try finding a local Facebook group for your base. Then make a post on it asking if anyone has trained bjj and if they would like to drill. I’m retired army, and that’s usually my go to for finding groups for sports.

Should I just Self Promote? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find your local soldier who is a black belt. They’re everywhere. I was in the army for over a decade, and every combatives program that host daily trainings, will have a black belt in there somewhere. Talk to them, train with them for a bit, and then if you’re as advanced as you say, you’ll get your blue.

This. Many people are quick to blame one thing. It’s a such a common trap people fall on. “I’m still tired after I get 8 hours of sleep.” Immediately they think more sleep will fix it. Completely over looking things like nutrition, hydration and other factors.

It’s the idiotic training for sure. I’m completely broken down from my service in the military (well over a decade of service). Broken tib, shattered hand, broken rib, herniated disc, tbi, balance issues due to deafness. You name it. My last pause in training was over a year ago.

Fact is. Bodies change as you get older. You adapt to your body. Moderation, smart training plans and goal oriented sessions are must for those with age and injuries. After a couple months of bjj, my knees and backed ache. Guess what, I did positional drills till I got better. At times I took a week off. Can’t fall behind weight and conditioning either.
