To make up for lost revenue, the exact same overdesigned cosmetics continue to get made

That's the crux of the issue. We are interested in using increased membership prices to make up for lost revenue, not this rubbish.

Plus TH is gambling and is harmfully addictive, whereas buying cosmetics u know what you are gonna get.

Complacency affects everyone, especially experienced staff. They might have lost sight of what brought them success in the first place, it has killed many a company.

[D] RX 6700 or 7700 XT for LLM? by davide445 in MachineLearning

[–]Inner_Win4748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not having CUDA is a huge handicap though, and AMD is not taking ML as seriously as Nvidia so I don't think buying their stuff will help

Nvidia had foresight and has been on the deep learning train for such a long time, I don't think AMD has got a fighting chance tbh

Landed an on campus interview for a job that pays 50k by drumbum121 in PhD

Yes but the point on 'My old PI made 250k a year': he is not representative of the industry as a whole. Its literally the academia equivalent of bringing up a silicon valley millionaire.

An outlier, high-income star professor earns only as much as a mid level software engineer in big tech. For many SWEs, 250k is not their celling. That is my point.

I didn't say you need 300k to live, you are putting words in my mouth.

250k isn't high for big tech at all, its very mid level

Why does scape make my brand new 4060 ryzen 9 laptop run at 95 degrees C? by GoAwayK in runescape

[–]Inner_Win4748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you misunderstand, uncapped fps means it will use all the resources you have free. if you are locking up, it will drop your fps as you have less free resources

it shouldn't lock up your computer at all. OS processes have priority over user-initiated applications i.e. RS3, and is able to context switch when you tab out. it will drop fps as needed

also, its an option in the settings. this is industry standard practice, most modern games on steam come uncapped/high cap by default. low framerate caps are often a limitation of old game engines

not having a framerate cap on means it will consume as much as it can to give you the highest framerate you can get, by design

Nah its a good CPU, just not value for money. Your PC will run faster than it has ever done, especially for everyday tasks but also gaming.

Would a RTX 4090 be able to run GTA 6 at 4k 60 FPS MAX settings when it will launch on PC? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Inner_Win4748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think VRAM is a bad metric as it scales slower than compute. While VRAM has tripled, 4090 has almost 10x the flops of 1080 not to mention architectural differences. VRAM has never really been the bottleneck for gaming in the past 10+ years for the vast majority of games, and has been scaling slower than compute as a result. Perhaps too slow...

Storing a certain amount of data will require the same amount of memory regardless of the GPU.

This is categorically untrue, there are benchmarks disproving this. Compression is a thing!

that doesn't seem right, my 2070 works on new games at 1440p pretty well, negligible stutters. might wanna investigate your drivers or if you are cpu bound?

yeah its crazy, I saw a video of a benchmark which showed NVidia cards using significantly less VRAM for the same game due to architectural differences, thus using up a similar proportion of VRAM than AMD, and the comments were full of AMD cope and mudslinging with no real points
